Tetris fans?

I'm a tetris fan.

It seems to me that both games are equal in the ragdoll physics department (although the SOL character models look akward). As far as the vehicles go, the SOL demo didn't really show off much, they just kind of drove around on the flat pavement. The buggy scene in HL2 was MUCH more impressive. That's not to say SOL doesn't have a great system for vehicles too, they just haven't really shown it off yet.

Both games are on par, however HL2's engine is most likely going to be better, just because it's a buy 1 get 500 free game.

Am I the only one who thought that the ragdolls in that Stalker video didn't really look like they were touching anything? Its like they are surrounded by a 4 inch force field. I just dont see any contact.

ragdoll physics in S.O.L have more Realistic Object movements, for example The G_Man face have 50 Muscles while Max Payne2 got 78.

S.O.L got slightly higher physics motions than HL2.

Im sorry but where the hell did you get this MP2 has 78 info from? Can you link me to what you read cause havent seen a damn thing that has said anything about the graphics in MP2 other than the gamespot article.

sols char faces suck anyone..no way does it have 78

and guess what, your GPA means jack and shit in the real world.

I don't get how you can have 'better' physics. Aren't they both just rigid body physics? 'Best' would have to be realistic and they are, and they both seem really realistic. I'll judge by how physics is implemented in the game... which I can't do until I play them.... pretty pointless thread.

If i remember correct Stalker uses ragdoll physics, half-life 2 doesn't, because it uses rigid body physics, which are way better.

Ragdoll physics are used most of the time solely for making death sequences (falling to the ground, tumbling down) more dynamic. This usually (ut2003) looks kinda unnatural to me, i'd like to hear other people's opinion about that.

The rigid body physics used in half-life2 are not only applied to dead bodies but through the entire game and are applied to everything. If you want a demonstration go to http://developer.nvidia.com/object/Rigid_Body_Demo.html - you can play around with a rigid body physics system there.

[EDIT]Again, i'm not 100% positive but i believe it's like that[/EDIT]

Please refrain from making references to the "real world" until you are out in it. If you were, you wouldnt feel the need to discredit someones acheivments with a lame slogan you found on a T-shirt at Hot Topic.

You've spent this entire thread spamming Guinny for anything he has said...Take your own advice and shut up.

Read more info for MP2..........

its in a mag, aaaahhh I just forgot. sory. But I am sure 100% that I read it somewhere.

I haven't watched the ragdoll movie but I did see the 4 minute trailer. It was pretty cool and the physics were impressive but it seems like the bodies are made out of blocks. If you look how they roll and tumble, they seem to do so in a somewhat awkward, jerky manner. Is the ragdoll vid any different? It's a more unique take on ragdoll physics since the characters seem to twitch and jerk around a little after they fall down.

...oh yeah; in comparison I think hl2 has more fluid physical dynamics than STO but who really cares until we play both :p

And I have three doctorates and a Nobel Peace Prize.

See how easy it is to list your credentials when there's no reliable way for others to verify?

Correct, Rag-Doll only applies to bodies. Both games use ragdoll physics and hard body dynamics. Objects other than bodies will be interactive and affected by phisics in both games. HL2 currently has both integrated quite well already and has demos to prove it. Stalker still has some work to do on HBD (as can be seen one of the trailers) But both will have it.

The "physics system" is basically the ability to apply force to objects and the world. IE, Gravity, momentum, propulsion, inertia and thier properties.

Hard Body Dynamics refers to the type of physical interactions that can actually be applied within the physics system. With HBD, things like cars, people, crates, wood, glass, metal and other such objects whos material or phisical properties could be defined as "hard" meaning thier structure and shape arent affected during interaction with other objects. (exept of course, by the physics)

Soft Body Dynamics is just like HBD, exept that it refers to objects whos structure is affected by other objects. IE Hair and cloth and anything telse that folds, bends, flows. Things like water and jello could, by definition fall into this category but dont. Liquid Dynamics are an entirely different matter.

As far as wich game will have "better" physics...it will all boil down to 1 thing...wich uses less processing power. Wich one "looks more realistic" wont matter too much scince that is mainly a design choice and shouldnt be a technical limitation in either engine. (Assuming physics will be tweekable, wich I dont doubt it will in both engines)

LOL watch the vids they released. When he shoots the guy on top of the tower it looks like his diving into a pool or something.

Oh it's you .. I should have known.

Whatever. Obviously you didn't see the newer video, oh wait, maybe you just ignored it and used the E3 footage as reference.

WTF? This entire thread is about the ragdoll video Gorgon posted when he started it. At least watch it before you comment on it.

Ive seen the Stalker video just for ragdoll bodys. They are very good compared to the previous videos where the movements were a bit jerky.

Both games seem pretty equal now. Videos cant really show us anything more on ragdoll. Ill have to wait to play them to decide which is better.
