I'm at a loss of words.

I don't know if this is a joke...or, some kind of malfunction...but the entire forum has been deleted and all the threads were put into an archive. No announcement on their website though www.stalker-game.com

EDIT: Perhaps they were hacked...things aren't adding up.

It seems the "Read This!" disappeared so in case anyone is wondering:

:O
Man I'm glad i never got into this game...

And I just edited that crappy story I wrote for their literature contest 4 years ago.

Honestly, good. It's better it never sees release, instead of coming out as a horrid abomination trying to shoddily imitate what we all wanted.

I don't see anything on the website; there's been all sorts of rumors flying around for the last few months. I wouldn't jump on anything too quickly.

This brings to mind certain posts in like august of 2003 that stalker was going to revolutionize gaming, and that half-life 2 would constantly be in its shadow.

It's sad that it never appeared. But its better than if a terrible wreck was released.

It had the potential to be a good game really. Looked pretty decent when I saw it in my friends PC Gamer or whatever it was last week.

Lazy Dev. team D:

I think I speak for everyone when I say...
Good riddance.

It's weird that the Read This has dissappeared, I'll hold off being 100% it's been cancelled until I get further confirmation..
Also, there has been several hacks on the forums as off lately, I do mean several, it's highly possible that this is just another one..:)
People here are quick to jump to conclusions :D

If this is a hack it's pretty dam funny..
I'd love to be the cause of something like that some time

If people would have wanted to give the impression that STALKER was cancelled, they'd probably just have hacked the forum and put in a READ THIS file stating the game has been cancelled :p

There's a russian d00d who likes to think of himself as this noble thief, claiming he will steal the STALKER 'source' and give it to the public, but all he's done so far is stolen passwords off the forums!

This is why I try not to get excited for games that are so far away.

Glad I didn't know much about Stalker if this is true.

They showed the game behind closed doors @ e3. Do you really think it would get cancelled after that..

Ive been following this vaguely, but knowing the history of a similar rumor a few months ago this is implausible. That and just putting a -read me- to signify it's cancelled seems a bit too little for something of this project's size.

Now don't jump on the bandwagon on crapping on it and saying good riddance, you might have to bite your words later.

I don't understand why people are glad it's cancelled (if it is then that'd be weird considering E3 and also that they were just in Gamestar magazine with a new 6-minute long video). You act like the dev. team owes you something. The way some of you are making comments like, "Of course, another delay. **** this game I give up!" doesen't make sense unless all you do is anticipate that one game. Can you not find other shit to do then whine about a game's status when it really doesen't affect you at all.

The thing is, it's entirely feasible that it has been canned. A publisher will only put so much money into a project. When it's taken this long, and cost this much money, it's easier to write it off than to continue to pump money into it that you won't ever recoup.
Chances are that the publisher own the IP and all the assets, so they can reuse it somewhere else later on.

Then why would they pay some guy to go in and "clean up the mess" instead of just cancelling it in the first place?

Cancelled? oh man that's too bad. I was looking forward to it :-(

The official site is up as usual. No read-me about a cancelation there. The forum is still archived. I won't be jumping to conclusions just yet. Seems like a hack to me.

dont think so
i wanna some some official announcment

Because you still want to get the game out. You bring in a troubleshooter to see what can be done with what they've currently got - hence all the feature cuts that were made. In the end, maybe that wasn't even enough.

no, they (30 stalker fan sites) are protesting for lack of info,

What's with all the haters of this game?

It's not so much that people hate it as much as it is that due its long delays, changes, lack of information, and aimless meandering in limbo status, it just does not seem likely any more that it will live up to its potential. If it doesn't get canned, I predict a wildly unbalanced, buggy, trainwreck of a release.

And it's not like I hope this is the case. I was rooting for this game for a long time. But at this point, I think they'd be better off just taking it out and shooting it in the back of the head.

I doubt it very much. PCGamer UK just had a huge 6 page article on how the game has pulled itself up from the ashes of its former build. And there's the stuff shown at E3.

If it has been cancelled, that is a lot of funding to lose and it may be cheaper to persevere and release the product anyway.
If it hasn't been cancelled I'm sure there will be a logical reason and such for the forums.

Why? I played Vampire: The Masquerade and enjoyed it, and it's pretty impossible that a game can be as shittily finished as that. At the end of the day, I'd rather play a barely finished version of Stalker and enjoy it than play nothing at all, vaguely wishing that a post-apocalyptic game would pop out.

No, I mean, now that all the interesting features are taken out, like the seamless city, the removal of the survivalist elements, the possibility of the removal of vehicles too. All the stuff that distinguished Stalker could be gone, and we'll just be left with a grey game where you shoot things and occasionally get radiation sickness.

the website is back up. The game hasnt been cancelled

I doubt they'd take things out. They'd probably leave them in a clunky state instead if that is how things are going.

If memory serves me, the removal of the seamless world, the eating/sleeping aspect and the fuel aspect has already been confirmed.
