Stalker clear sky review from PC Gamer UK, it's not very good

so...Is zt sayin you can turn that in a real patch?
ZT I would apreciate if you could explain how to do that,that would look sweet on my man bag.

One of two ways, one is cheap, one is expensive.

Expensive but long lasting and usually better quality: Send the image into a place like http://www.butlerpatches.com/, they make the design into an embroidered patch you can sew or iron on, you give them money, they send it.

Cheap but not as long lasting: Go to your local crafts store, buy some Iron on sheets, or some sew on sheets, print the image out onto the special paper iron it onto fabric


Though I will warn you, some embroidered patches come out terribly, so ask them to see the finished work first.

Also ask for Grizzly's permission since he made it.


Edit: Though it looks like that site does not accept any orders smaller than 50, so just look around on google for other patch places.
 
I attacked the Army Outpost in the Cordon today. Its manned by a 14 strong squad of Spetsnaz and a posessed PKM. Most odd. Well it was, anyway. They're all dead. But the PKM didn't want to be picked up. Which saddened me.

Anyway, lots of fun so far, though I can't get an M203 to fit on my SIG 550, which I'm sure I could in SoC.

You need an upgrade which allows you to attach one :(


Can prolly get one from any normal upgrader
 
Man i have the game in my store, but i have to wait till the 15th to buy it. ****ing pissed.
 
Had my first emission today. Twas lame in comparison to OL.





This game needs a shitload of patches, and indeed mods.
 
Does the Steam version Automatically patch it for you?
 
I will probably go with the Steam Version then, because I don't know how to install patches on regular games, I've never been able to do it right.

But I'm probably going to wait until the game goes down 10 bucks.

Any new mutants? :(
 
It has fewer mutants than Shadow of Chernobyl as far as I know, but then again I just
got out of agroprom
so I didn't play a lot yet. I don't know.
 
Way fewer mutants. More gunplay with other humans though. Some cool new anomalies.


I'm trekking through Limansk atm...
 
**** I cant deciide....I have the steam version of SOC but it didn't work with certain mods,so i had to dl another version of it....I don't wanna have have to do the ame thing with CS...sigh

Then you'll be waiting months on end for a patch to be uploaded into the Steam web server so you'll always be behind.
Ffs, they STILL haven't patched the first STALKER with the very latest update, so I can't play on any mp servers or use a lot of the mods.
Get it retail.
 
Money and equipment are way too easy to come by, got myself a Bulat combat suit (50,000 R) from the Duty trader, a Vintar BC rifle I found after a scrap between Stalkers and Bandits, a cool Soul artifact, and more cash than I know what to do with... but it's still great fun to play. The missions for each faction are really well thought out and varied. There is always something to do, something to aim for. I'm still liking this. :)
 
Sooooooo, when's the steam version comin out. Should be out by now :angry:
 
Just got home from work and installed clear sky!!!!
 
Besides it running worse then Crysis @ highest settings 1680x1050. Its a charm. Much harder also.
 
Ah, its finally out. Do you guys recommend waiting for patches and mods, or buying right away?

To say it doesn't run as well at highest settings is kinda wierd. Cause the highest settings are pretty over kill (max vision distance, max AA, etc). I say overall its better than Crysis. I can get most of the options turned on, in SoC I couldn't get sun shadow properly working and now it works equally well on and a few more of the checklist options. Also I request link to a site from anyone that explains some of the options like SSAO amongst others. I turn some stuff on and don't notice any difference :dozey:
 
From what I can tell the god rays cause a ridiculous performance hit. I can max out everything but them (excluding AA+AF) and still get decent performance. I can't really tell the difference between high and medium god rays anyway.

Crysis: 1680x1050 everything max dx 10. NO AA - Runs 30 fps + constant.
Stalker Clear Sky: 1680x1050 everything max dx 10. NO AA - runs about 15 fps +

All im saying is Crysis is better optimized and looks better. Still nothing really to do with the game. I just spent 3+ hours collecting EVERY single stash in the swamps before i left them...I know im insane but whatever for some reason i wanted to do every side mission before moving on.

Can it run with AA + HDR yet? That hacked me off in the first one

This is true, with volumetric light (which only happens for the first couple of hours as the sun rises incidentally) it chugs, unlike Crysis, which has it on all the time. It's a badly optimised engine. Still.

I would disagree on difficulty though, it's no harder than any other fps, even on hardest setting. You just have to remember running and gunning isn't the best way to play it - planning ahead and headshots from long distance = win.
I can headshot enemies with my Vintar half a mile away, as Duty have been finding out recently, even got a kill from a ricochet which made me grin :)
