S.T.A.L.K.E.R. provides a dynamic gameplay of fast and tough combats, where you oppose smart & dangerous enemies, a large set of diverse weaponry, possibility to control machinery, detailed and interactive game world, story-driven single player with original team gameplay, and multiplayer with numerous modes. A THQ release schedule reveals that STALKER, 5 years after its announcement, will launch March 16, 2007.

expected it a little earlier but close enough. Read a hands on preview the other day that said they were disappointed by the amount of scripted sequences but they had only played part of the game ..hopefully it reviews well

Cole, funny.
I find this to be totally believable, the code is almost all but done, they're merely polishing it up now, I would have found this harder to believe if it hadn't been for the fact that they removed many features etc(I.e. it got rushed :))
It's a shame it's been partially ruined by Dean Sharpe.

Oh well, I'll have Metro 2033 in a few years anyway!

I still think it's going to be a good game even with all that stuff cut out. Oh well, we will just have to wait and see.

I'm having flashbacks to when we had tons of people coming into the forums and arguing about how Stalker is going to kick the snot out of HL2. And then others arguing that no, DOOM3 was going to do that. Good times.

Didn't DooM3 come out first? I forget :(

Yeah, but this was before all that, and all three were scheduled for around the same time. People were posting STALKER screenshots and people were like, "Holy crap those graphics are good" and then the HL2 people were like, "it's about the gameplay guys" and then DOOM people were like "pfff, realtime lighting kthxbye"

ah yes....so naiive we were.

If the scripted sequences will be anything like in any CoD then D:

I expect it to be like... Operation Flashpoint, if you get what I mean (big world, non-linear, only some scripted sequences to push the action forward; I KNOW that OP:F is a war simulator and that will be an FPS-RPG hybrid, but still).

It's going to be shite.
They took out the vehicles, which will mean trekking everywhere.
They took the blowouts out, meaning no dynamic changing enviroment.
They put in levels, which breaks the immersion

STALKER will be like Boiling Point, but more painful

You forgot the most important thing, they took out the requirement for the player to supply themselves with food and a source of liquid, considering this game was originally 'advertised' as a "Survival simRPG"

the preview (cant remember where I saw it) mentioned that they never got to any open spaces ...all the scripted sequences were indoors ...which is bad imho

People still care about this game? :|

Gee, let's think we are posting in a thread about it, I guess nobody cares! Nope! Na-da!

Read the article about it in PC Zone, sounds like they weren't overly impressed by their play test and that a lot of it was scripted, alas you can't have a completely script-free game, otherwise there'd be no sense of real direction whatsoever.

I love the setting and the concept, Chernobyl was always a fascinating and albeit horrifying incident to research and would be a great setting for an eerie video game.

I love the setting and concept too, but it sounds like they completely dumbed down the game.
It's been hurtful watching the game slowly deteriorate, I'm hoping that it won't be a complete flop.

Believe me, I'll still buy the game no matter what.

Looks and plays like every generic shooter I avoid. Some of the stuff I've heard about it sort of interests me, though.

Stalker release March 16?

2008. loll.

What disturbed me from that gameplay video was that there wasn't any effect when the player shot those soldiers or that hoping mutant thing. No bullet holes, no blood no nothing:(

Thought I saw a bullet hole when he mercy-killed the one dude on the ground.

BTW, nice spread on that shotty :|

That gameplay trailer has really put me off. Maybe at release I'll be surprised but I am not holding my breath.

Funny?
I was being serious.

Yeah, what was with that? The shotgun shots looked like they were just passing through those mutants like they were ghosts. The combat looks way too T-rated.

The public beta is MP only by the way, so I'm not all that interested in it, the main selling point of STALKER is still the SP tbh.

I'll buy it just because of the setting and atmosphere, I don't care if it's a brainless shooter really - though it's a damn shame. It seems they left in the intuitive inventory system in, that's something.

Same here. We need some REALLY good SP player games.

I havnt played a game that comes close story wise to Deus Ex, Half-Life IN AGES....

I've been playing Max Payne 2 now....holding my sp crave.
