I guess you will have to battle some stalkers in Aftermath. And anyway I loved the way they were kicking. And also, we only have the basic gravity gun. Does anyone else think that battling stalkers will be nice?

I dont see how they will provide much challenge if they are the shuffling moaning stalkers we saw in the Citadel..Even If they do have lasers...they are slow as crap. Unless there are many of them, or they move fast (like the kicking legs in the teaser) they might get kind of repeditive...Oh well.. wait and see

Moaning. Wouldn't you moan with all your limbs have been replaced by bizzare objects, placed a restraining helmet on your head, and made to do all the dirty work for the Combine? I, for one, would. *shivers*

Speed. They're slow only in the Citadel because they don't have anywhere to hurry, do they? Besides by the looks of those legs they might run as fast as Gordon does when he sprints.

Don't judge the book by its cover.

well if they move like they did in videos i saw of the leak...

....Then they'll be pretty annoying enemies. They annoyed the hell out of me before, I hope they don't move as fast :p

When alyx says "i hope to god they cant remember what they were", what does she mean? Cause weren't they humans before they became stalkers? And as stalkers all they did was the crap work the combine didnt do.

They were humans who get their limbs cut off and put into slavery, and guessing by the way they react and behave now I'm guessing there was a tinsy bit of brain surgery going on as well.

Ehm... Striders or Stalkers? Stalkers as in little fanboys running around with minicrowbars screaming "I COMPLETED HL2 IN 30 minutes blablabla... HUG ME GORDON!" or what?

Yes I can't wait to pick them up by their little stubby feet and slam them face first into a cement wall watchin' whatever the **** flys out of their little ****in heads those little pieces of ****!
That's quite a vocabulary you've got there :)

All I want is a bunch of stalkers and indefinite ammo for the .357
I looove revolvers, so I hope we'll see more of this beast.

I don't really see how they can be much of a threat if I didn't know about the lasers. Just looking at one makes me think they will shatter if you give them a poke. The poor guys are so meek from starvation that they barely have any muscle mass to support their own structure, hence the hunched back and bow legs. I don't see how they move fast. Though they seem to be able pick up their legs fairly quick in the video which I assume is due to drugs, their legs weren't touching the ground. How are they going to chase you withstilts for legs and stumps for arms?

In regular HL2 they were moving as slow as the zombies. That is how I imagine they would work if reality actually played a role in the picture. Which it rarely does.

Because they are (were?) controlled by the Combine. They will have been ordered to kill/capture Alyx or Gordon.

In the beta(I never played it), apparently they shot lasers out of there eyes or something ^_^.

The model was trimmed for the HL2 release. As you never see them running, they cut the run animations. The original code (which wasn't trimmed) suggests that they were quite swift, and would hide behind stuff a lot, before jumping out at you and zapping you.

I wonder why in the world the stalkers would even have lasers. As I recall, in every scene featuring stalkers there was a least one soldier guarding it, presumeably to prevent it from trying anything funny. Why would the Combine equip them with lasers that they could theoretically use against them?

They use the lasers as tools for their work.

Hope I’m not wasting breath here but…
First try to imagine actually being turned into that.
Try to imagine what it would be like to have your limbs and genitals sawed off, your organs removed, horse blinders attached to you, most likely be lobotomized as already mentioned (this part could actually provide relief from the suffering depending on how it was done), and be kept barley alive with a scarcest amount of nutrients they can get away with feeding you (intravenously) without letting you die.
Ok?
Now she hopes they can’t remember a life as something before that.
Why you ask? Because the memory of being human would torture them even worse then the living hell on earth they are subjected too now.

the teaser made it out like the stalkers were going to be scary, but we've seen so much of them already that i cant see how it would be possible to find them threatening at all, laser or no laser.

btw, i spawned a stalker in garrysmod and it fired laser beams from it's feet...
which, as you probably can imagine i found quite amusing. what a crap way to attack. They say that the stalker had unfinished coding or something, but even then why would you make it attack in such a bizarre way.

It's obviously a fact that they wont attack in the same way in Aftermath, but just seeing them do it in Garrysmod has totally prevented me from fearing them at all.

<satire>
They won't change the way the stalkers attack. Especially since they are only included in the rail scenes where they have no attack sequence. The foot-laser is awesome! Just because the foot laser is "unrefined code" doesn't mean they will "fix" it for the new release.

Stalkers cannot move quickly. Proof positive - watch the cut scenes. It doesn't matter that they wouldn't be running or moving fast when they are working at a computer or stationed on an assembely line. Do you see them moving fast? Didn't think so. (Pay no attention to their squirms in the Aftermath video).

That screaming noise is not coming from the stalkers - that's the sound of the citadel coming apart. How can they make noise when they have things lodged in their throats?

Quiz:
1: How many rules of logic were ignored or broken by the above three statements?

2: How many of the statements above have similar arguments to previous posts in this topic?

3: What conclusions can you draw from your answers to 1 and 2? You'll find the best answers for your questions about Afterlife here. If you recognize these flaws in somebody else's argument, do the best you can not to tease them about it, but help your friends to see their folly and have a laugh.

Exellent post. Thats exactly what I think Alyx was referring too.

It fires from the feet because they didn't place a location for it. If you type thirdperson in CS with cheats enabled your player model fires from his crotch. The mortar synths and bullquids apparently shoot their projectiles underneath as well of using their cannons or mouths.

EDIT: Yes it appears I did Samon. Plus I just thought how in God's name would a welding laser be a conventional-long ranged weapon? That's like portraying a blowtorch as a flamethrower.

I would feel sorry for them. They're just ordianry people like you that have been branded enemies of Our Benefactors turned insane and into slaves. Unlike the mawmen they actually show a pinch of intelligence.

I think you quoted the wrong person :p

Thing about the Stalkers, and most HL2 enemies except the CP, Breen, and the Combine slugs themselves is it's hard to hate them. Everything you fight is either just an animal (albeit alien- headcrab) using their natural instincts or an enslaved person. They're not freely attacking, killing and doing those things, they're forced into it, and the stalkers/zombie mawmen are the best examples of that, especially the zombies as the human part still screams in agony and has muffled wording.

It's real easy to hate the CP when fighting them, I could do anything to them. Free entities choosing to do that themselves.

oh right, ok. now things make more sense. thanks for clearing that up.

I was kind of both amazed and disturbed by the fact that when zombies are set on fire, they scream "Help me! Put it out please!". I was lost, and stood there for a second confused, not knowing what to do.

They shout "Oh God help, help me" backwards and your mind recieves it subliminaly. Although it always sounds to me like they're screaming "Hear me... By alowing me..."

Look, I'm not deaf, OK, they actually say "Help me! Put it out please!" when on fire. :p

I can tune the sound a little so it's clearer and send you it as a proof. :)

That would be nice, cause I never heard that... thats probobly what they scream. Zombies freak me out, man... augh...

I love zombies, they're fun to kill.
It's like, I'm all hard concentarting, looking for combine soldiers and then I see two of these loo-loos. Zombies are great fun. Thats why I like Ravenholm, coz it's full of them

Edit: Sorry, links don't work

i actually think they yell "o god help me". and yeah they creep me out when they yell like that.

They try to yell different things at different times, the usual gist of it is
"Oh God..." "Help me", and "put it out". Its hard to hear because they
are shouting thru a mouthful of Headcrab.

THIS IS A FACT:
When on fire they shout "Oh God help, help me" backwards, FACT.

Threads have been done on this many times. There is more than just the "Oh God help, help me", non-english versions of the game particularly have different sounds effects.

Would be teh cool if Valve found a way to make fighting Hydras fun and put them ino Aftermath without telling anyone. But I doubt it.
