Stalkers

I just hope Ep1 doesn't go Doom3 on us, and try to make things that are essentially un-scary scary by making them jump out at every corner, all stupid and scripted-like.

yea, its sad because stalkers are pretty cool looking, it was just a bad idea to try and turn them into an effective enemy. although hopefully they will prove me wrong :)

You want a story reason for stalkers to appear as enemies? Numerous systems within the Citadel break down as the Dark Energy reactor explodes and in various parts stalkers without a duty are set loose and insane and deranged as they are, they attack everything that moves. That wasn't too hard, was it?

And as for the damage they make when spawned in the current HL2, that has nothing to do with how dangerous they are in the Episode 1. Remember that they weren't fully finished and you weren't meant to encounter them in battle.

Why bring out problems this tiny? The solutions are practically jumping at your face. Or don't you have anything better to do?

no because my point was that they already had a name for them, therefore giving the impression they had encountered them before. afaik, the above situation has not happened before.
 
i have a feeling those stalkers are gonna make me shit my pants.

like that one screamer with the car, and all of a sudden AHHH!!!

The most frightening thing is fast Zombie. I hate them when they pop out in all ways. As for Stalkers, not very scary since they are slow. Especially when I am staying with Alyx, I have no reason to be frightened.
 
I believe Episode One features one segment where u and Alyx are in a dark tunnel, Alyx shoots zombies and Gordon's flashlight reveals them. Talk about creepy:eek:

Very good. Our job is just keeping the freshlight on and let Alyx can see. Lighting the Road is a rather easy job, isn't it? The difficult job has been left to Alyx.

I left out some details -
1) Gordon can't use his guns
2) Zombies take advantage of the flashlight recharging time to rise from the dead. So when u switch the light back on, a zombie might be right in your face.

That better?
There's a chance that my friend made up the whole thing though...

LOL that would be interesting. Valve said Lamarr is one of the team's fav characters...maybe an official mod starring him may come out some day.

The missing week would also be VERY interesting. If they cover it, I hope it features Molotovs, spitting on CP's and traps (Traptown style). And sawed-off shotguns!! :naughty:

what would it be? Jump here and there and head crab some ppl and jump off when atk and get mutated to fast...might work though
 
I was only serious about the lost week. That could be an intense combat-oriented FPS with bits of RTS thrown in. Plus we see Barney again :D

Is Ep 4 based in the HL universe?
 
Yes, it is in the Half-life universe. But I don't think it's Turtle rock.
 
I personally don't think the Stalkers should have any weapon. What moves me about the Stalkers is that they are an image of complete weakness and helplessness. Giving them a laser really takes away from that image. They should only be depicted as being pathetic slaves.
 
Yeah, but then there's not much point in them being there. If they're along the walkways and freakish yet benign they'll lose an element of what makes them so scary.
If they're horrific but also pose a threat... *Shudders*
 
The Combine have fricken laser beam guys, using them like women during WWII, yet their military consists of loser idiots with gunz. Nice delegation of forces
 
I'm pretty sure Valve mentioned about a year ago, half-heartedly in an interview about a headcrab/Lamarr mod. Although they could have been joking.

Basically, what's scary about them, is that they shoot freakin lazer beams from their eyes (visor, actually). If they look at you for a few seconds, you're dead, at least as they appeared in that mod. Testing may have brought down their power a bit, as they were rather nasty if you had a few wandering around a room.

Are you saying that there is no point in putting something in the game if you can't kill it? The purpose of Stalkers should be to remind the player of the level of evil the Combine represents.
 
A very good point. I do get the impression that they're being touted as enemies. But I like your idea. Although people'd probably just run around, bashing their benign, freakish noggins in with the crowbar. In that way I suppose it'd be a sort of euthenasia...
 
i found stalkers quite skilled..... seeing them fixing combine technology and operating the control panels (i think ??) in the citadel. but their 100% not suppose to fight since their just a bag of bones.

poor stalkers.
