In the trailer you here Alyx says OH NO STALKERS!!! Firstly, are stalkers those weird humanoids in the citadel? And if sowhat is there to be scared of?
Anyone know?

I do, Stalkers are modified, captured humans that are yes, found in the citadel. They are "scary" because they have a powerful laser and possibly melee attack.

meLEE yeah i guess so... i sure dun wanna meet up with those bunce of frigs

They're scary because they're gross. What the imagination comes up with for the process of turning into a stalker is what makes them creepy. Little things, like these for example:

Q: Are those metal posts for legs bolted to the remainder of his/her femur through the flesh?
A: Apparently. Yuck! Ouch!

Q: Why remove the lower legs if they will be walking anyway?
A: So they can't run away? Because it's funny? Lost during "stalkification"?

Q: What happened to the hair/physique?
A: Extreme chemotherapy makeover?

Q: Why the metal plate over the face? What's behind it?
A: That's where they took the brain out, and it covers the hole?

Q: Do they know/remember who/what they are/were?
A: Yes! (Don't be a weenie, Alyx)

Q: What happened to their speech?
A: The radiation makeover baked their vocal cords when they drank the Combine's special "Thorium Martini".

If you want to know what's scary about stalkers you may want to try the Missing Information mod. It's basically the demo maps from e3 and the unfinished Borealis (an icebreaker than was going to be a chapter of the game).

Basically, what's scary about them, is that they shoot freakin lazer beams from their eyes (visor, actually). If they look at you for a few seconds, you're dead, at least as they appeared in that mod. Testing may have brought down their power a bit, as they were rather nasty if you had a few wandering around a room.

oh man!! I forgot about the Borealis. I think that was the first thing about HL2 that caught my attention - that they were modeling an icebreaker very closely to be used as a level. I just watched an X-files rerun where they were on an old, abandoned ship. Thinking about that full of stalkers hobbling amok is a little creepy.

Hopefully the stalkers don’t shoot lasers in Episode 1

From a certain point of view, they're rather funny:

Combine Overlord: "You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have zombies with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads!"

Sigged :D

I'd be 'scared' of them in the same way the zombies scare and creep me out. The sounds and the way they move, mainly. Shooting lasers from their face doesn't really scare me much. A Stalker scampering down a corridor, arms waving, mouth drooling and its raspy voice screaming scares me.

The reason they're supposed to be scary is because they're the fecking victims
"an insane hostage is scarier than something that just wants to eat your brains"
Or something similar. It's like zombies, did anyone else get a bit worried when you set them on fire and they started screaming?

Stalkers are terrifying. They're horribly neutralized human beings, with their forelegs and forearms removed and replaced by metal rods, their innards torn out and replaced by a saline drip, and their sanity completely gone. They really show why they're so awful in Raising the Bar- these horrors used to be people.

If you look closely. if you manage to you can make out stubble on their chin. I found on lost coast you could spawn and kill them without the game freezing. They just stadup up rigid so you can take a closer look.

Stalkers make a pretty scary noise, that's whats scary about them and the way they look sort of adds too it.

Those are the exact reasons I was somewhat scared of zombies; the way they looked and the noises they made. Those reasons are good enough reasons to be creeped out by them, and the same goes for Stakers as you've already said.

Some of the times in HL2 that made me jump were zombie related. In the tunnel in Route Kanal, behind the crate and body; at the Resistance camp at the end of Royte Kanal when the zombie comes through the fence and another coming from under the waste; the open tunnel hatch in Water Hazard with the zombie lurking near the supplies and the one that got me most; underneath and water and wooden loading-crate at the fridge/freezer puzzle before the Resistance Camp in Water Hazard. The worst part of that was that you can very distinctly can hear a small clicking and scraping noise faintly. At first I thought it was a headcrab, but on about my 4th run through of HL2 I actuallt explored that area more and the zombie just leaped up at me when I got close.

The fast zombies didn't scare me much. They scared me when they chased me as its one of those 'how far behind me is it' scenes, but other than that I thought they were pretty easy to get around and whatnot. The Posion zombies, however, always got me. The noise they made was bad enough. I avoided fighting them whenever I could, I'd just run.

I don't like the fact that they've got very little skin. And they walk on stilts like particularly pissed off clowns.

Just kick their "stilts" and run off. i dont think they will be able to get up what with having their arms partially amputated.

But the player has no feet! Haven't you looked down?

I know what you mean whenever I saw one I'd jump in my set turn and run. Now I just remember where they are and chuck a grenade into the room to kill it

Smod has some good stalker fighting in it. i personally think they'd be scarier without the laser, it makes too comical imo. they're basically just a zombie with laser mods

Definitely. Lasers from their feet, I believe? That's just silly. Not sure what attack they COULD have - after all, it's not like they're quick movers, nor do they look strong or tough and there's no way they're about to get their hands (sorry, stumps) on guns...

Is it me or does Eli's Artifical foot look like the stalkers feet?( NO NO im not guessing hes a stalker)

Come on! Those things don't shoot laser. They are simply scary, not threatening. Alyx is an ordinary girl. When she saw such scary humanoids, like your girlfriend watching a horror film, she just felt scared and wanted Freeman's hug.

Ha Ha ha:LOL:

Hmmm but she never considered the fact that he might be too old for her

Gargantis5 U seem to think that every where you go, even in my poll (no offense)

They do shoot unaccurate but VERY powerful red lasers. Go spawn one in Garrysmod and slap the crowbar against its face, you'll soon see then.

It'll be great if i could get garry's mod too bad i cant... i bought a X-box version or HL2 so im gonna get the com one soon and sell the other

First, red laser is not really a mass destructive weapon, no matter how much damage it does. Dueling with it is not as tough as to duel with a couple of Combine soldiers, I supposed. What is more is that Alyx can due with a couple of soldiers on her own. And, I believe the so-called VERY powerful laser does not real frighten her. But how the stalkers look(scary) is really a great problem, for a girl, even for me, a boy. I am not saying I am a sissy.

I get what bbson_john says, i mean like i ravenholm, some ppl said they were scared. Alxy reaction to the stalkers is like those scared ppl's reaction when to their zombie fears.

extreme laser cannon just does notr fit with the stealthy evil image conjured by the name "stalker". but then, when i think stalking, i think of a lion sneaking up on a zebra or something, not "skinny creep tottering round on stilts". what is it exactly about them that warrants the name stalker? HL2 gives the impression that they are just the combine's worker bitches that only hang around in the citadel, but if so, why the name and the fear?

Well, for one, no one likes to be stalked by a particular creature (in this case, the stalker) which particularly likes to scream. While stalking you.

They are the workers, yes. But I doubt the Combine actually refers to them as stalkers; only the humans do, probably because of its holy shitness.

Imagine some thight skin creature with laser creeping behind you...the room is so dark..."click clack" the sond it will make while it slowly staggers toward you...its head looks up and you know its grinning athough it has no face and then...*laser shot sound* YOU'RE DEAD AND THAT WAS SCARY

No, that is not scary, 'cos you are already dead fot that moment :p

Listen, a combine elite walk towards you. He shoot an energy ball at you and you venished inevitably. Is that more scary?

In the HL2 mod Missing Information you take on stalkers on a deserted ship.

Mummy.

I've spawned many, their lasers do aprox 1 damage every few seconds in my experience.

yea but my point is that they are only in the citadel, and the combine have a whole army of soldiers at their disposal, so why would they bother with a retarded unit with terrible mobility in the first place. imo its just a terrible creature design. mostly the name though. also, screaming loudly and giving your location away is pretty crappy strategy if you're trying to stalk something.

****ing Hell I hated them. I couldn't ****ing hit them. And they sounded like pussies.

I'd kick them so they'd fall down, there metal legs would make it awkward to get up, then I'd push them back over, just to torture them! yay!
