Star Trek Online Preview

The game could have been far superior if Cryptic didn't rush it. I don't blame Cryptic as much as i blame Atari and Bill Roper. Space Combat is a lot of fun and it's challenging but ground combat is too static, repetitive and it's quite boring. Even the fanboys will agree with me on that.
The game has a lot of kinks to work out but hopefully Cryptic will put some effort towards improving the game in the coming months. If i were them i would abandon Champions Online and put all my time and money into this game instead. Most people i know went back to City of Heroes after trying out CO and they will stay there. Me included.

I beta tested both but i can't say that i thoroughly enjoyed either one of them.
However, the Trekkie inside of me needs his fix real bad. So, i got the game. I got the Deluxe Edition for $30.

I haven't done enough ground combat yet to call it repetitive or boring, but it certainly has a more awkward feel as compared to something like World of Warcraft. It feels very much like KOTOR, in fact. That same kind of awkward movement.

I don't disagree that there's room for improvement, but it's an MMO, it's not a "One release" game. There have already been, what, 3 patches? I don't think it's too ridiculous to think that some things can be fixed.

Yeah, I definitely don't find the ground combat repetitive or boring, but I think a lot of that is probably because of how it's varied with space combat. Alternatively I don't mind because I've played the KOTOR games so many times.

I just hit Lt. Commander and got my new starship, and am now busting around the galaxy, Picard style. It's a whole lot of fun.

Interestingly enough, my biggest complaint with this game so far seems to be that there is too much going on at once. I don't constantly having 12+ quests cluttering my Mission Log.

Well, you're the first to admit to enjoying it.

Just about everyone who i have played with and talked to in game despises it.
Most people on the forums agree that it needs to be revamped. It's tedious, slow paced and dull.
BioWare finally figured that out after ME and completely revamped in ME 2. That's how the ground combat should be in this game too. A real time third person shooter with a cover system. Instead of the hour long static borefest.

Had any run-ins with Starfleet Dental yet?
