Speaking of Cervantes:
I was playing in a tourney one time several years ago on the original Soul Calibur, and Reginald will enjoy this story because I'd chosen my character at random and got Astaroth. I must eschew modesty here; Soul Calibur was my life, if you read my post in the high school thread about skipping school and living at the mall, Soul Calibur's what I did all day, every day, to the point that I could see the frames so perfectly that I knew what my opponent was doing almost before they did.
So I was at this tourney and I'd been undefeated thus far (it wasn't a rotation like most tournaments, it was play-and-stay, single elimination) and I'd been picking random and Edge Master because I'm cocky. My opponent picks Cervantes.
And I'm trouncing him. We're at Kilik's stage and I'm pushing him around, grappling him, using the crescent moon swing to pop him in the air and hit him with G+B, using his A+B single-handed swing to push him around where I want him. And he starts edging back, backing away to ring's edge, and I indulge him. And he goes for Cervantes' dread charge.
At precisely the same time I see Cervantes tuck that shoulder, I go into POSEIDON TIDE; he hits B, and he knows he's made a mistake, he KNOWS I was timing him to do that, the most perfect timing and he couldn't have stopped himself from hitting the button if he wanted to. And now he's flying across the screen with geo da ray like friggin' M. Bison, and WHAP--
my axe connects with his head. Instant throw counter activated.
And I start spinning him around.
And then I toss him all the way back to the other end of the screen, and he's dead, to cheers and applause and, "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"s.
One of my more favorite SC stories.
