did this film own, or what?

it warped my mind as a child :)

lol, some of it was really funny...

"i'm doing my part too!"

anyway, yes it owned, but it wasn't exactly a classic. i have it on DVD somewhere...

Yeah...the ultimate B movie with a budget...

But don't watch Starship troopers 2. Really...just don't :x

This movie was the COOLEST when I was 14, because the formula consisted of this: show boobs, blow shit up, repeat. And we all know that's the greatest formula on Earth to a 14-year-old boy.

Still a really fun movie.

I just own a few of the DVDs of the show. I catch the movie when its on TV sometimes.

What he said, quite possibly the crappiest attempt at a movie ever.

Fully. What's even better was when those troopers sent a nuke down the arse of that plasma-shitting thing. I can't help but find that amusing. :p

lol ive loved that movie for years! then, im only 15... so my judgement is a bit warped. Ultimate mindless veg out movie, just watch things get the shit blown out of them for 1 and 1/2 hours

"What's even better was when those troopers sent a nuke down the arse of that plasma-shitting thing." Read that sentence, just read it out loud. That sentece is definitely a winner. Ill be using that forever.

I know what you mean, reading it out loud actually changes it a lot. :D

Wow. I'm not a total minority then. I definately thought this movie owned. But then that's probably because I was addicted to Starcraft at the time, and the movie just sort of helped me visualize what was happening to my Terran ground units.

yeah this movie was definetly awesome, nothing like blowing up some ugly ass aliens, some nice funny gore scenes, funny jokes and seeing some chicks tits in the shower

I extremely dislike the movie. It took a fantastic book by Robert Heinlein, with a great story and some really interesting political commentary, and turned into crap.

LOTR wasn't out yet, so basic rule was that Hollywood screwed every adaptation :p

Well I wouldn't say that Starship Troopers was actually an adaptation of the book. Rather the book inspired the movie which is sad because apparently the book is pretty good.

I've been having fun with that starshiptroopers type map called antlion_troopers. Really fun but really hard as well.

What would be great would be able to mod it so that you and your Combine soldiers start off inside a drop ship and get carried to the landing zone. Would be cool to order the combine around like the resistance fighters.

Well -half- the book is really good. Troopers is two books in one. The first book is the story of trooper Johnny Rico fighting the bug ( which by the way is both smart and capable of manipulating hand held weapons in the book ), the second is Heinlen's preachy doctrine of what he believed a Utopian society would look like.

The latter is somewhat dry, and intepreted by some as borderline facism (thus the imperialistic overtones of the movie's semi-facist government).

I wonder if the screenwriter didn't take most of his cues from John Steakly's "Armor", which some have called Starship Troopers only with more action and less doctrine. Steakly aparantly enjoyed Heinlen's concepts, but found the doctrinal bits cumbersome and unejoyable, and sought to rewrite Troopers, only focussing more on the intergallactic war.

I guess you could say that Starship Troopers focussed primarily on the politics of war, and Armor, on the war.

People who never read the book love the film, people who have hate the film. I'm happy to be in the former category as I loved the film. I've been meaning to read the book(s) some time, I think that's the best way round to do it.

Before you bash the people who go on about how good the book was and how the film you love sucked, imagine this, what if the Doom movie is the most amazingly perfect piece of sci-fi movie making in spite of the fact that they've removed any link to the game. If you're a fan of the game you watch it and pick out what's missing... you don't like it. But if you've never heard of Doom before, let alone played it, you have a great time at the movies and love it. Perspective counts a lot.

Starship Troopers 2:We spent the budget on beer and weed instead!

I watched parts of starship troopers 2 on my satellite dish last night, and wow....talk about horrible. it wasn't even a b movie, more like a c or d haha, just bad everything. 1st one still rawks tho!

I thought "Starship Troopers" was pretty good when I saw it in the movies. Entertaining at least :E

Special effects were great, the acting was worse than my kids preschool presentation. Except for the special effects it was one of the worst movies i've ever seen.

Starship Troopers had just about everything you could want in an action movie.

The TV series (which I enjoyed more) was a continuation/re-telling of the movie with more characters and deeper plot points. Infact in response to this thread, it's made me think about buying the DVD's before they are no longer in print. My favorite campaign was the Ice Asteroid one, where the crew is marooned on a bug-infested asteroid with limited supplies.

Haven't read the book, didn't bother with Starship Troopers 2. All in all, I can say I've quite enjoyed the whole universe that is Starship Troopers (even though I've only technically been exposed to half of it).

I prefferred the Tophet and Earth campaigns myself, and have been intending to complete my collection of thos DVDs forever.
