Starting New Mod - Need Help

Hey, I’m looking to start a Mod but I need a lot of help. I need modellers, coders, skinners, mappers, texturist, web designer, and a lead designer. I need a lot of modellers and skinners since there is going to be a huge amount of weapons. I myself will just be a Director since I cant do anything other than come up with ideas and get things organized.

The mod will start out with no plot, setting, or theme. It will be a mod about weapons - Like the Hl1 mod Firearms. It will be very realistic and will also be objective based. All the weapons will be highly customizable with different optics and accessories.

The title will either be Weapons of the World, Worlds Weapons, or Weapons Database

There will be two teams - good guys and bad guys. Good guys will have swat/military skins and bad guys will have terrorist skins. The game is multiplayer.

It will have the following modes of play:

-Capture The Flag
-Capture The Flags
-Control The Points
-Team Death match
-Collect the Flags
-Attack/Defend
-Objective Based (blow up the bridge, blow up the bunkers, take out the Aguns)

Players will chose there kits offline almost like the hl1 mod the opera except the interface will have more, player will be able to view guns by name, manufacturer, type of weapon, etc.
The player can have up to 20 kits - 10 for the good guys and 10 for the bad guys. Some guns will only be available for the bad guys or good guys and others will be able to be used by both.

All equipment has weight. Everything from bullets too laser sights.

If I were you, I'd start out with a small list of weapons that you would like to get made and then as you release the mod increase the weapons list. Modeling and skinning that HUGE list of weapons would take FOREVER.

well ya that would be the plan. Start out with the popular and known guns and then expand from there.

LoL Staddydaddy this guy is joking, he's mocking an old joke about newbs who right away want to make their own mod when they first played CS. Theres always 5 or so new mods annouced every month that someone who knows NOTHING about computers and is like 13 years old wants made, but says he can't do anything but dictate to everyone else in the team about what he wants in his game.

I joined a mod team like this once, and laughed on my way out!

Well I would like to express support, as the community will certainly run out of weapons to shoot (extremely advanced) polygons with, but I don't have the skillz to program or model or any of that shit...
 
I have an Idea for a Mod. most mods come from peoples ideas. so is there something wrong about what I am doing? Im trying to organize a mod and be part of the Hl2 community and even possibly helping out Hl2 in the future and your just being a jackass and you're trying to be the big guy on some internet board. You are probably the 13 year old.

Movie directors get an idea but they dont do the lighting and filming and shit.
 
yes, it will start out with nothing on its very first release... This mod will be the structure and foundation for a 2nd mod using the same weapons but adding a plot and new maps to go with the plot... and the 2nd mod will have a new name.
 
Futballer you have to learn to accept criticsm. Your idea may not seem to appeal to people and most likely they will respond negatively. It's not about just making a mod 'you' want to play, you have to consider if the majority will like it as well. If not, it's a waste of time.
 
well saying "OMFG are you serious!" etc, is not very good criticsm is it??? Why dont you tell me whats wrong instead and give me your ideas and help me out a bit?
 
erm... H.L_2 is new to HL2, just joined on my recommendation... just give him tips if u will. And no, he doesn't mean Gabe Newell. How ironic. No, that Gabe is Just a Guy.

Ok alot of you seem to think that I want to make a mod for myself and that il just boss everyone around tell them what to do when all i do is nothing... wel.. thats not what im doing.

All im doing is basically handing my idea over to someone who wants to be the lead designer for this mod and then letting them take over from there on.

Another thing. You have to be able to contribute more than just ideas. Anyone can come in here and say the want to make a mod, throw down a list of weapons, then say they want someone else to do it all for them.

I suggest learning a trade, whether it be modeling, skinning, map making, coding, etc. Then get yourself involved with another mod project.
 
ok.. im basically asking a lead designer to take over my idea. the Lead Designer will be 51% in charge of the mod and ill just put in my 2 cents in whenever its needed.


And I am going to be taking a modelling coarse in the Spring.
 
Well good. But I would recommend changing the premise of your mod. Try and come up with something original or atleast have some original concepts to throw on.
 
hey adam u should really tell him what u did.i mean ever since u realesed that map u kinda brought the HL2.net community together. for that i thank you. and uhh CDNFutballer, i suggest to not make fun of someone in a higher rank than u.

Ok so if in 4 months someone DID take over my idea and the mod was 20% complete none of you would be interested in this mod????
