Yeah, I know this is really common knowledge among school children. I may have been forgotten by a lot of parents maybe, but I'm sure they knew it at one point.

Yeah, but its different with France...I dunno...In a way its just part of English humour to poke fun, in a sort of cynical way which generally highlights our own faults rather than those of the people we are talking about.
Anyway, back to the statue

I've seen it, but I never got a chance to go over to it. Still, at least I got to stand on the Empire state building

also, somone educate me, how was the eiffel tower built by americans? were they the labor? i thought the architect, contractor and engineers were all frenchmen.

Well, yeah...Like I said though, its different. I suppose a part of it is just different understandings of humour. I mean, you may well be doing it out of fun or in a light hearted way but because of the difference in humour it comes across as insulting.

Yeah. The president back then went a little mad with security for our faaaaamlies in Amerrrrrrca so he build a big wall around Asia. Was never finished though.

I've never met anyone who didn't know it was built by the French as a gift. Never, not once. We're not all so stupid as some of you would believe. We don't sturt around with sidearms strapped onto our belts. We don't all speak with the accent of a Texan. We aren't all in the uber-patriot crowd. Most of us are normal people just like the rest of you.
