Steam is a good idea but...

steam has ruined my dialup life. No more downloading .exe patches at friends houses or at school. Thanks valve for forcing me to leave steam open all day and night for your patches that dont even fix stuff.

Well I have a rather fast dl speed and I don't have your problem.
At first I thought the daily update would be good, keeping the
software up-to-date. Imagine my surprise when my cache got
corrupted. I had to reinstall and reupgrade. Same thing with the
boxed version (gf gave me the boxed version even though I'm an
ATI vouch dl'er). Why can't I download and store the patches
as I do with all other games' patches? It would save me a lot of
time.

PS. I would rather not patch at all but we now live in a world where
it is acceptable to put the final touches to a piece of software out
quite some time later than the initial release. Microsoft, industry
leader... :dozey:

At the very least there should be an option to turn off STEAM so it does not keep checking the Internet.

STEAM reminds me of a parasite.
