steam is out!

Damn, I go out to the store for 5 minutes (okay an hour, so what) and come back and Steam was released.. now I have to settle for a high # , arghh.. :)

Big flipping deal, it's not like they will be releasing anything else anytime soon and my guess is HL2 will be delayed til mid October at the earliest so I will just keep playing BF 1942 DC until then :D
 
Hm, it reports wrong version... I only have original HL (with the latest patch installed) yet it recognises it as HL Platinum Pack. Shouldnt be a problem I hope.

Qustion.....check out that Monitor thing. Is that showing what steam is downloading?
It keeps switching around games.
 
Anyone here getting any games to load?. Nothings loading on my end. or its taking forever. Errr.

The links for the installer in this thread have been verifyed to NOT be trojans right??
 
the platinum pack simply means you have a half-life cd-key so you get access to all the current games on steam. (if you were to get a steam subscription for all the current games its called the platinum pack)

yup, it did ask me and i did select it to have it migrated over to Steam.. but still its not in the list :(

lately i only play NS.. i don't like 2.0 but thats another story for another day..

i give up, cstrike was downloading, then it went up to 110 minutes, so i called it off and tried to download tfc, but it doesnt even start downloading, i give up.

Should I allow steam to delete my old Half-Life folder, or keep it for now?
 
it installed, got all ready to load up. Now it thinks its running, but there are no icons now, nowhere.:(

EDIT: now its updating or something...again...bleh
 
If anything downloads are gonna be pretty harsh at first. And tomorrow probably wont be any better because everyone who isnt up now will be getting steam.

I guess we'll just have to be patient :(
(im just gonna leave steam on all night, i have to get up early in the morning for english anyway)
 
Is the SteamID format 0:0:0000? I was all chuffed that i created an account very early, the like a dick didnt realise you have to join a server to get your ID.

its really personal preference, safe thing to do is to keep it and delete it when you know everything is copied over properly.

well it seems that Steam is still a little buggy.. but im sure they will get these chinks worked out over the next week or so..

im not too worried.. btw, i tried to connect to a server.. it just stays at the launching screen and the hard drive doesn't seem to be loading anything.. hmm.
 
Look at this in Cobble. Is it meant to be there or is it just a big glitch the mapper missed? BTW cobble looks wierd but good now.
 
i think mine hung:( still using heaps of ram and downloading like hell though. irratating....
 
Well, I got everything up and running with Steam. I noticed on the CS 1.6 patch screen, with the fixes and all, that it says "Removed bots".

I haven't kept up with CS 1.6 or Steam so I have no idea what this means. Did they plan to include official bots, but decided to remove them?

Just curious hehe.

Its been said for a few days that offline play will be added soon, at first i thought it just had todo with logging into steam to play LAN games etc. But it probably means bots aswell.

For anyone on irc seeing the whole business about MD5 checksums and beta installers. I persoanally used a beta installer with a different MD5 than to the official release. It ends up downloading the same thing from the content servers so dont worry about it if you have one. If you dont know what im talking about dont worry anyway.

82e65212bc8c43225e1737cb236066c6 = official installer
76a6f9bbbe6c28fd47f29a040a3e628e = beta installer

Key word INSTALLER.

Yes there is no media section in Steam 1.0 as of yet.

I am too. I don't have a cd-key anymore (lost Half Life box 3 years ago) so maybe it has to be activated to reveal the new media.

Could someone who's entered a cd-key confirm if there is or isn't any HL2 media? It would be appreciated.
 
Oh man, steam just crashes and fresszes up everytime i try to load it. Is this happenign to anyone else?
 
I've got it installed and everything converted over, but it won't load any games, I assume it's updating them to the latest versions. Another thing is, I can't access the HL2 videos from Steam anymore, luckily I made a copy, but I thought everyone was getting the last 3 vids?

If you look post but one above you i already did confirm this.

Right now there is no media tab in Steam 1.0. It could be activated at any time. Most probably when the release has died down a little and some things are ironed out.

If you have HL/CS/DOD already installed it doesnt ask you to enter a cdkey it just reads it from the registery. But i can confirm that there isnt a media section just yet.
 
Mine isnt even updatin...it just sits there, I guess its being hammered to death :)
 
hmmm, i uninstalled steam, and then reinstalled with this version. And it loaded up and everything, but the moment i click on "games" it hangs and i am forced to CTRlAltDel! Why is this happening to me:(:(

Steam.exe (main exception): Win32 StructuredException at 01492562 : Attempt to read from virtual address 0 without appropriate access rights.
