I'm just wondering how you guys will be picking up Aftermath (sorry, "Episode 1"). I have nothing against Steam, but I always feel uncomfortable without having an actual box with the game disc(s) inside sitting next to my computer. Then again, If you get it off Steam, you can preload, plus you aren't supporting Evil Assholes by buying retail. I'm personally getting the box because I don't mind having to drive to the store, but I'm curious as to what all you guys think about it.

I'm going to be preloading Aftermath off Steam, because I'm told that you can spawn Aftermath content in G-Mod once you've preloaded it. I don't really need the Aftermath box either.

Aftermath

To me it doesn`t really matter, as long as we get a good game.

I think that only counts if you buy the new Gmod through Steam. But it should be easy to get E1 content in Gmod 9.0.4

Retail BTW, I wouldn't but I'm on dial-up.

Why would you want to spoil Episone One for yourself by spawning it’s content in Gmod?

I’m probably going to buy it through Steam first, and buy a boxed version for my HL collection later :p

I know, but you can spawn new enemies into Gmod. And I’m just wondering why you would want to see them (and the other new content) for the first time in Gmod instead of in Episode One

I wouldn't do it - the last thing I want is enemies and weapons spoiling. Anyway, Steam first of all.
Then boxed later. Boxes <3

You won't be able to spawn any of the E1 stuff until it comes out anyways, it'll be all encrypted. And once it's out, if you're playing GMod instead you need your head looking at.

I'm quite surprised at the number of people who want it retail. Are boxes really that important to people?

I'd have to say retail given my conection, which is crappy dial-up...they don't even offer broadband in my area which is pitiful. Another factor is my patience level...which is small. I'd be better off buying the retail.

Thats what im doing. Going to get it on steam so i can play it the sec it comes out. Then buy the retail box for my collection.

Now that I think of it, I'm probably going to buy the boxed Aftermath first, then I'll get the Platinum Collection (that includes Aftermath) so I have a fresh new set of CD-Keys for the new computer I'm building this summer. Plus, there's just something I find fascinating about metal collector's game boxes :O .

I'm going to preload the game, and maybe buy it through Steam if I get my hands on a creditcard. But I gotta buy the retail just cause the boxart is so lovely. :)

It's not like I'm spoiling the game, with the knowledge that it will include an helicopter :D

A metal collector's box? Did I miss something?

Boxed, definitely. I like to stare at the box art for hours until i finally get around to playing.

Platinum means it sold X amount of copies silly :p

I know :)
But SPARTACVS is talking about a metal collector's box.

Steam. I'd buy a box just cause I love box art, but my hate for EA goes beyond any love I have of staring at pretty pictures, and those bastards ain't gettin a penny from me!

I'm also going to buy retail for the box. I've kept every box for every PC game I've ever owned, and I like how they're set up. I've got all the Half-Life boxes grouped together, like a timeline (the only one I'm missing is Blue Shift, having gotten that one off Steam). I wholeheartedly support Steam and I would buy games through it, but I need my boxes. Especially the new boxes; say what you want about EA but the GOTY HL2's got some spiffy packaging.

I've got most of the Half-life collection (including HL2 xbox, which I got out of pure boredom last November :p). I've got the old Opposing force box (massive one), never had the original Half-life one (now got it through Half-life Generations) and lack Blue Shift.

Re release them all at budget price Valve, with nice DVD boxes. :p

I’ve got the American and the European Half-Life, the Goty edition of Half-Life, the American and European Opposing Force and BlueShift. The Adrenaline Pack and 2 Half-Life Generations. The European and American HL2 Collector’s editions and the Gman, Gordon and Alyx editions. :p
(all cardboard boxes except for the European collector’s edition)

Collecting the boxes lost it's charm when they got rid of the big paper boxes. DVDs are nice, but...

Still got my Blue shift though! :D

Big paper boxes aren't as good as DVD boxes. :p
I want the big Blue shift box though :(

You prefer DVD boxes? Unbelievable :)

Retail boxed version.... i don't have a credit card, good thing realy

The Half-life Generation box is the only one missing in my collection - this includes boxes my friends found worthless. In fact I bought Condition Zero just for the box (had played it earlier, and hated it).

I voted Retail for now, but that could all change in due time ;)

Condition Zero is just Counter Strike with different skins and a lousy bot campaign.

Everytime I think about it, it sickens me that I paid for that sh*t. There's still the box though.

I'll save a trip to the store and get it off Steam. I get a 10% discount for doing it that way, so it seems the smartest route. I don't need the actual discs.

Yes ríomhaire, I know that "Platinum Edition" means the number of units sold and not what the box is made out of, but the Platinum Edition of Half Life 2 that is coming out soon and includes every VALVe Source game + Half Life 1, will come in a metal collector's box.
