Just finally preloaded HL2/CSS.

It doesnt accept debit cards.

For ****s sake Valve. I'm too upset to say anything more. I now have 3Gb on my PC completely useless.

You didn't know it only accepts visa and mastercard (for the time being)?

debit card as in check card?
I used one and it worked fine, although its safer to use credit cards when making an online purchase, so if something goes wrong, then the credit card company deals with it instead of you.
As long as it says visa or mastercard on it, it should work.

I'm with you. I only have a Solo card ;( and all of HL2 on my pc.

Gotta wait because my brother might have his credit card still but i'm sure he cancelled and snapped it up...

Before blaming anyone else you could have just researched yourself a bit and found out that it only accepts VISA and Mastercard. It's called taking responsibility yourself.

I have Switch :(

And where did it say about VISA or Mastercard?

I read somewhere they accept Visa Electron. That's what I'm hoping anyway, as it's what I use.

No money in my account at the moment though, so I'll have to wait and see.

.. oh and hello everyone, my first post :)

Yes, they take visa electron. I know because thats what I used to buy it.

Well tbh i always knew Steam only accepted Visa and MasterCard lol i just hoped maybe they'd upgrade it to accept switch/solo for HL2 because not everyone has credit cards and it would help Valve to screw over VUG even more. I know now you, me and my brother would use switch/solo to buy HL2 if they allowed. 3 out of 3. I'm still hoping he has his credit card...

Edit/ Hey loomis :p

As long as your debit card has a visa/mastercard logo on it, you can purchase it through steam.

I'm pretty sure a lot of banks are switching over to electron over here(UK), might be worth asking them if they do them. Maybe if you're lucky they'll replace your switch/solo.

Only downside is hardly any shops accept electron as far as i know. (haven't used mine in a shop yet)

i have a visa debit card (halifax changed from switch to visa debit) and it apparently its accepted everywhere visa is - you just select visa card!

i do, however, also have a visa credit card :)

dunno if i'm gonna buy HL2 from steam though...

My card is Maestro.

But we've entered the details and their not accepted so that just says it all.

I hope to God that they will fix support for Maestro cards soon. Mastercard OWNS that card you know... Don't know why it shouldn't work ;( I'm getting desperate.

A problem shared is a problem halved. I'm with you bud

Just send them an envelope with some money!

Since your in the know Munro, do you know when they'll update the system?

DOH!
Thats not fair who in their right mind wants a credit card anyway?

visa electron works. and you can use them in shops, cost cutters burtons and tesco all take visa electron (these are the ones I know for sure)

I have an ATM card with on it the mastercard logo and it says maestro, so if or when they make it possible to buy via maestro can I buy it with it.

And a second question is, why do you americans use the creditcard so much, I mean here in Holland we can pay with ours ATM cards anywhere, so I assume you can to, so why still use a creditcard, and as far as I know yo ueven have to pay a yearly fee to be able to use it, and it has a limit,so I see no advantages.

My Visa Electron didn't work. :/ It's probably just a thing with my card or rather the bank that I got it from, because some other banks here have exactly the same Visa Electron cards and they seem to work just fine with Steam.

I think if u use Visa Electron u must have that internet purchase option enabled.

I only have a debit card, not a credit card- it's not like there's some huge law saying "all people with money must resort to debt-inducing devices".

Just that that's irrelevant since I couldn't purchase through Steam even if I wanted to :(

3 and 3 quarter months... then I'll be ready... and hopefully Valve will have increased their payment options.

spaz1 - Yes, visa electron issued by barclays works, that much I know for sure.

Grey Fox - The advantage of a credit card is that you only pay at the end of the month. Its kind of like an overdraft, you buy something with the card, the cc company pay for it and you pay them back at the end of the month.
Pointless imho, but there you go.

btw, address those envolopes of money with:

Gabe "Link" Newell
Link house
Link street
Link
England

;)

Guys, you can purchase, with cash, Prepaid Visa cards. It is not credit, it is plastic cash. Think of it like a Gift Certificate, except you can use it to purchase on Steam. If you have money you can get a prepaid card.

Since children under 18 can have maestro, and therefore shouldn't be able to shop as freely as adults?

-Anyways, isn't it fairly easy to get a card as a student? Or to borrow daddys in exchange of cash? =)

Actually, my "3 and 3 quarter months" comment and the fact that I couldn't get the game through Steam are in regards to my connection speed, not my payment methods... hell, even if for some stupid reason it refused my card I'd just pester my parents (giving them an awful flashback I'd reckon).

Well, nothing much to do about that besides buying a faster one.. The time it takes to make the discs for shipping is the time you'll have to wait.

You know.. I could burn the files down for you and send them in a postcard.. you can pay me throught paypal if you like =)
[dunno, why you'd want that if you can't play CS:source online though..]

Heheh, nice offer but I'm just going to have to stick with retail. When my exchange finally becomes broadband compliant, I'll probably buy the Gold version anyway :D

I asked Taylor Sherman about this and he said they had no plans for doing this.

i couldn't pay in the first place either.. but i asked my parents nicely at they let me use there credit card

But I'm 18 so I think they should be able to just flip a switch & let me do it. Tried it at the bank today (they are the ones who gave me the card) but they were total noobs & told me off. And since I do not have a job, I couldn't get a real credit card ;( Same thing with the Students cards.

And I did ask my dad yesterday but he said no & that's why I'm having all these urges to burn down our house :E That would get their attention at least. He's afraid of Internet-shopping since he doesn't know jack about it. Did I mention that I hate grownups with no brains? ;)

i have a visa debit card so it can be used everywhere a credit card can but it acts as a debit pulling straight outta my account ........ best thing EVER

lexos: That's what I would like too. What did you do to get it? And what are the requirements?

Plans for what?
Plans for updating their payment processor to accept anything other than Visa and Mastercard. Also, no plans for letting you use a third party payment processor like WorldPay or PayPal.
