Stern's Hero of the Day: Atheist wins right to wear Pasta Strainer as religious symbo

Why do you guys have to fight in every other thread about the most inane of shit?

I mean, this argument isn't even about politics or religion. It's about the right to bitch about unfunny shit and what constitutes an unfunny shit. What is this I don't even

I mean if we're just gonna take a hardline "don't bitch about threads ever" stance then I'm pretty much gone. That's half the reason I come here sometimes. :)

That said, if you don't find a thread to your liking, at least contribute some discussion or an amusing quip.

you know a far better way to show you have no interest is by not posting at all.

well you had no problem ignoring that thread so obviously you know how to ignore you just dont know how to ignore things that you're not interested in.

you should prove how disinterested you are by not posting. there's a novel idea

Oh no, criticism! Wow, look at mr. master troll rolling with the punches.

veggie, the majority of your posts are bitching about something, and most of those posts are bitching about stern. quit lying to yourself :p
Ha ha veggies bitches about everything LOL but really, jokes aside this isn't close to being true. Did you actually look at my last 100 posts or something? I think the problem is that me bitching is the only kind of post that you tend to remember. This also depends largely on what you define 'bitching', because I do a lot of stuff just for humor that you could call bitching if you were a real bitch.

Bitches don't know bout my minimal bitching.

oh veggie, youre so easy to rile up. just admit it, between all of your stern hating and rules lawyering, youre the forum whinebag. <3

back on topic, lol spaghettihat

oh veggie, youre so easy to rile up.
??? I'm simply telling you that you're wrong.
just admit it, between all of your stern hating and rules lawyering, youre the forum whinebag. <3
Like, bro, I never denied that I have a reputation here for yelling at people, but that doesn't mean I do it as often as you're saying. I just do it in away that tends to stick in people's minds, like you.

And what do you mean by rules lawyering? I think you may have this stuck view of me from 2005 or something.

First off, I would say Stern contributes plenty to the forum. Some of his threads fall flat on their face due to nobody caring, or him posting old shit his Alzheimers made him forget happened 5+ years ago, but a lot are legit threads that start some kind of actual discussion. Lots of times he plays the devil's advocate, sometimes he just says what he thinks, and always he over-exaggerates his points and overemphasizes his passion about the subject, and the rest of the time hes trolling Vegeta, Raz, or the remaining deists left in the community. Even when he's trolling though, watching vegeta/raz/unozero/shift/style bust forehead veins because they don't realize what he's doing is INCREDIBLY entertaining to the rest of us. The fact that 100% of the time, he gets what he wants from you guys just makes me laugh so much when I read threads like this.

Also, every so often, if you don't allow him to bait you into saying stupid shit, you can catch him in a legitimate debate. Of course, it usually happens in the politics section, and it requires you to want a multi-quote debate, but I've done it a few times and its fun and thought provoking. So when the Hl2.net civil war breaks out over whether or not we kick him out, I'll yell O CPT! My CPT! as I stab my bayonet into the belly of my dear friend Vegeta.

I think you are giving Stern way too much credit. You honestly think that he makes stupid threads and posts intentionally to troll us? If he was doing it for our reactions, why does he have me on ignore? Doesn't he want to see me getting mad?

It's an intriguing idea but I seriously doubt that's what he's doing.

No doubt he enjoys getting a rise out of people but I seriously doubt he's the great puppet master you're making him out to be. Also, I think the thing you're missing whenever you "remind" people he's trolling is that they might, themselves, not give any ****s. I mean, I can't speak for anyone else, but I am capable of posting a critical comment without visibly shaking in anger (most of the time :>). I think people around here are often too willing to think that people "care too much" about an issue when they express any form of dissent, and then take that as a sum total judgment of their character. Take Stylo's reception in this thread for example - I mean, his first post did come off a little frothy, but that doesn't necessarily reflect how he was reacting to the thread in real life. A little hyperbole isn't always a bad thing, after all.~

the rest of the time hes trolling Vegeta, Raz, or the remaining deists left in the community.

Who? Huh?

Very well said. You can definitely speak for me with those words. I enjoy most of the bitching I do on here. It's why I like hl2.net.
And may I point to the last line in my sig!

Lol totes busted a forehead vein in this thread.

BRB off to start a campaign against Pastafarianism / Stern's threads. (Y)

Ok, you and vegeta seem to have the misconception that I'm saying he's a puppet master, when all I am saying is that he knows that what he posts annoys people on this site, and he does it intentionally because he gets a rise out of people, and he finds that funny. Thats all I'm saying really. Like I said to vegeta on Steam, I'm quite sure he doesn't actually have Vegeta on ignore, and if he does, then hes really missing out in every thread of his.

Your argument about people not really caring as much as it seems, is valid for sure. That said, when you post your "critical comments" you're still taking Stern's posts seriously, when you shouldn't be, and when you reply in a serious manner to him, it appears as if you think that he is seriously of the opinion he originally posted. Like I said to Vegeta in steam chat, I have had real conversations with Stern, and when he is talking seriously, you can tell because his ridiculousness is very much toned down.

You guys (not necessarily Badhat), at the VERY LEAST, take Stern's comments and posts far too seriously. I mean, I've talked to both Vegeta, Raz, and I think Viper about him when we were playing ARMA, and you guys sound like you actually hate him. Raz especially. I really doubt that its just his sense of humor that annoys you.

Anyways, I've done some numbers gathering to see if I can't quantify claims about Stern's contribution to the activity of this forum. Here are the numbers:

Since April 1st.
LOUNGE
214 total threads generating 7049 replies
43 threads by Stern generating 1151 replies

POLITICS section
39 total threads generating 830 replies
18 threads by stern generating 460 replies

Anomolies:
Japan Earthquake (349)
Osama Bin Laden death thread (305 posts)

Statistics (all stats are ignoring anomalies to provide better general statistics during non world-event scenarios)
5614/251 = 22 replies per thread (Non-Stern threads, Lounge and Politics)
1611/61 = 26 replies per thread (Stern threads, Lounge and Politics)
5244/169 = 31 posts per topic (non stern threads, Lounge Only)
1151/43 = 27 posts per topic (Stern threads, Lounge Only)
20% of threads are made by Stern
22% of replies are in Stern's threads.

Other interesting statistics since I was curious. Of the non-stern threads, there were:
14 helplife2.net threads (people posting threads about personal problems)
6 birthday threads
2 happy holidays threads
3 request threads (surveys, code help, etc)
1 stoned thread
1 drunk thread
1 poop versus spiders thread
1 "when did you join" thread
1 half life twig thread

Krynn's thoughts: No other single person has come close to creating the same amount of discussion that Stern has. Without Stern's threads, the politics section would probably drop down to the second least active subsection of the off-topic forums (above only the Art thread). I know a lot of people don't give a damn about the politics section, but a lot of others do, so bite me. As for the lounge, while it may not be "dead" without Stern, he still accounts for 20% of the threads in this section which generate roughly the same percentage of the total replies. In addition, none of this is counting his replies in threads that he didn't start, which often lead to more discussion in those threads. With this, I feel fairly confident that Stern contributes more to the activity of the forum as a whole than any other member on the site.

Deal with it Vegeta, and don't send me another 2000 word rant on steam where you don't even let me respond to a single god damn thing before changing the subject because your pissed off mind is in such a rush to scream at somebody. Just because Stern pretends to ignore you doesn't mean you can go off on me, bitch. :3

Oh you guys.

I pretty much agree with Krynn here. I said so earlier tonight in a different thread that also features some wonderful Vegeta vs Stern faction squabbling. Stern is an invaluable member regardless of whether you like him or not. Those numbers Krynn posted speak for themselves. Stern probably posts more new topics in a six month period than many other members have in their entire time here. He's responsible for a solid 20% of new topics in the Lounge and 22% of its posts by volume are in these threads.

I'm not saying spamming is good, just that Stern does post an awful lot of threads that are quite worthwhile, and generates a lot more discussion than contention all told.

amen brother

wouldn't be hl2.net without him. That being said, now that it's be solidified that it was satire with me comments towards Stylo, does my infraction stick? Seems that kinds of crass, sarcastic squabbling happens amongst many members :p

You'd have to ask Glenn, who gave you the infraction. We're not really in the practice of repealing infractions though...

1 stoned thread

hmm, I bet whoever made that must have been a massive fag.

As far as I'm concerned the more threads with actual content the better. It keeps the community going in between the big threads that everyone gets into.

Stern is a boss, y'all jelly.

Anyway, is it just me or does the pasta hat guy look a lot like Eejit?

WELL I DIDN'T KNOW THE STERN FAN CLUB WAS HAVING A MEETING HERE

/runs away

A self-confessed atheist, Mr Alm says he belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a light-hearted faith whose members call themselves pastafarians.

He can't be an atheist, because he believes in the Flying Spaghetti monster that does not exist

Can we stop talking about Stern...

I fully support this man. I need to renew my passport and there is similar rule for religious headgear for that too. It's ridiculous. Your religion has nothing to do with your passport and should have nothing to do with the rules for passport photos.

Oh give me a break. Yeahhh he isn't actually a bigot, he's just trolling for fun! And I have never once developed a shred of anger from any debates on here with him or any others, despite the fact that they seem to get heated at times, so kindly remove your mouth from Stern's dick please.

Yes, that's why he has both Vegeta, and later me on ignore. That's how you know it's him who trolls us and it is us who are frustrated by him.

Sorry Krynn, but you're clueless and even more gullible that you actually believe the stuff Stern says regarding trolling me and vegeta.

I actually laughed quite hard at the pasta strainer :(

Also, this thread is rather venomous.

This ****ing place, Jesus Christ.

Even more predictable than Stern's feeble attempts at humour in otherwise interesting threads, are Veg's and Raz's unfaltering attacks upon everything he writes. I knew before I opened this thread that Veg would have started the shit-flinging with his usual smug, confrontational attitude. Veg, you know I love you and would make passionate love to you if I could, but for ****'s sake, you need to chill.

i wonder what stern thinks of this thread now. it's kind of like the squabbling of siblings over if they should put their old man in a home or not.

the uptight secret pedophile never forgave his crass father, but his stoner kids still respect him and his ramblings. everyone else at the hospital wants the family to SHUT THE **** UP AND GO HOME, while one guy makes a metaphor for the situation and takes it too far.

<3

Can we stop talking about Stern...

holy shit my ears are burning.

haha I find it funny I inspire such hate; unless it's quoted I dont even see it. talk about farting in the wind. the odd thing is I really couldnt care less what your opinions are of me and I dont post for your benefit nor do I actively troll either of you because really I couldnt care less what you think. I post for my own amusement

this is pretty accurate:

the uptight [strike]secret[/strike] pedophile never forgave his crass uncle [I'd have killed him by now if he were my son], but his stoner kids still respect him and his ramblings. everyone else at the hospital wants the family to SHUT THE **** UP AND GO HOME, while one guy makes a metaphor for the situation and takes it too far.

also krynn seems to know what time it is ...most of the time [your stat tracking abilities are scary/awesome]. and Numbers. and a few others who find it amusing that some dude bothered trolling the austrian government by wearing a spaghetti strainer on his head. while still others are just dead inside. oh and others who refer to themselves in the 3rd person which stern finds amusing

Was trying to leave the thread, but you guys just love to keep starting shit back up.

Even more predictable than Stern's feeble attempts at humour in otherwise interesting threads, are Veg's and Raz's unfaltering attacks upon everything he writes. I knew before I opened this thread that Veg would have started the shit-flinging with his usual smug, confrontational attitude.
If you were to place bets on me showing up in all of Stern's threads, you'd be beaten and bloody in a back alley right now from all the debt. Why don't you go look through a list of stern's threads and see how many I've posted in with 'unfaltering attacks'. Aside from this one, I only posted in 5 out of the last 20, and only 2 of those contained any sort of negativity that wasn't shared by everyone else who replied. (talking about this and this)

So please shut up with that already. Krynn already proved me wrong about just how much activity Stern generates here, but I don't ****ing hound him in even a quarter of the threads he posts. Most of the time his threads don't interest me in the least, being political or some other boring news item. I'd be surprised if you could find even 10 instances of me attacking Stern in one of this threads in 2011.

but for ****'s sake, you need to chill.
And you need to read Badhat's post, as well as maybe read the post where I clearly tried to drop the subject with some humor.

the uptight secret pedophile never forgave his crass uncle [I'd have killed him by now if he were my son]
I'm pretty sure Eres was referring to you...? But I'm not sure. Everyone knows I'm not a secret pedo.

Lastly, what does Krynn and whoever else believing that Stern is just trying to troll us think of this?

nor do I actively troll either of you

This was a good thread for getting all this shit out on the table.

The irony is getting a little thick in here. I'm also detecting that atmospheric levels of serious business are beginning to exceed nominal levels.

Let's just get the thread back on track so that I can stop ruining all the great potential discussion to be had!

This man posed a challenge to the privileged position that religion has in society. What's your opinion?

The irony is getting a little thick in here. I'm also detecting that atmospheric levels of serious business are beginning to exceed nominal levels.

if you put everyone on ignore who isnt on topic it's a rather short thread of people enjoying something that's mildly funny and stick-it-to-the-man-ish

these forums and life in general is far more enjoyable when you parse out the shitty little annoyances that add nothing to the dicussion and say far more about the person making the statement than the person they're trying to crucify

amen brother

I actually feel bad about this and I don't often feel bad about things.

Inevitable duplicate thread locking!

Seriously though, I don't think people REALLY hate Stern, do they?

I guess the thread would get back on topic if people wanted it to. I've already summed up my view anyway.

BBC is paid for by the British Public (me) and reporting on this kinda nonsense is pointless to me. To me, some dude putting a pasta strainer on his head and getting his license approved his hardly news.

Hey, here's a thing that happened that doesn't really affect anybody! Cool, but that should probably be on Break.com not BBC News. Plus, I like how it's being heralded as some sort of breakthrough for Atheism or something. Yeah, fight that religion by making yourself look like a dick on your driving license, that'll show those God-Believers what for!! I doubt anybody's gonna care.

So what if certain religious people are allowed to wear religious clothing in their driving licenses? People should just not care about this kind of thing and not try and prove points about it. It's pretty meaningless at the end of the day.

I see this as kind of like a small child who has a toy and he sees another child with another toy so he cries and screams at his mother until she buys him that toy too. IF THEY CAN WEAR STUFF ON THEIR HEAD I SHOULD BE ABLE TO AS WELL RAGE RAGE RAGE.

There's more to life, y'know?

You're only allowed to say this stuff until after a raging debate has gone on about it, with people slinging insults and shit.

Right now you're just going to get people saying "Then why discuss anything? It's a forum, that's what you do"

So what if certain religious people are allowed to wear religious clothing in their driving licenses? People should just not care about this kind of thing and not try and prove points about it. It's pretty meaningless at the end of the day.

so you have no problem with someone wearing a veil in their drivers license? it could be anyone. why should we/they give extra consideration to the religious? the person in question made his point without being a whining dick. he could have started a petition, or held a rally or complained to his member of parliament. instead he chose to do something that would instantly get his point across

So now I guess we're discussing the subject in here instead of Riom's thread...

he correctly deduced that humour is more powerful a weapon than having a demonstration protesting religious exceptions to laws
Why do you say this? Because it made the news? What has this powerful weapon done? Seems just as powerless as a demonstration if nothing changes.
