While I agree with the original post, I think the issue is a bit larger than just that.


This forum is becoming a cesspool in terms of civility, and proper decorum. I am starting to see a few people getting banned here, and while I hate to see this forum lose members, it's long, long overdue. There is no reason for some of the blatant flaming that takes place here. I have no problem with the occasional argument getting out of hand. That's bound to happen anyplace where people have differing opinions. What happens here is flat out childish, improper, and should be stamped out.

I see people complain all the time that "Valve never posts here anymore, they just go to site X and post!" Yeah? No kidding eh? If I went to a website and released information, and got the kind of "responses" I see here, I'd make it a personal policy to NEVER do anything for that forum again. It's ignorant, and shows an absolute lack of respect for the company and the personnel. Furthermore, it is highly derogatory, and in many cases, personal attacks. Idiocy.

Use some common sense people. If Valve pisses you off, say "GOD they piss me off!" We don't need the "let's assassinate Gabe" crap, and we certainly don't need any personal comments on his, or anyone's weight/sexuality/family. I think most of you are decent people, but in many cases, you are using the anonymity of the internet to hide behind callous, and ignorant thoughts, in order to feel cool. It's not cool, it's not right, and it is not acceptable in mainstream society! If you wouldn't have the balls to say something to someones face, don't post it here either!

I try to just avoid the idiotic posts here altogether, and just contribute where I feel it's appropriate. It's getting difficult,however, to find a decent thread here anymore. You guys feel the overwhelming compulsion to step in and flame ANYONE who may post something that you've seen or heard about. Hell people, this is supposed to be a community that supports Half-Life 2. If you know something is old information, feel free to explain that it has been seen, and thank the poster that took the time to TRY TO SHARE INFORMATION with you. Use some common courtesy.

Use some common sense, and maybe we'll see Valve back in here occasionally.

It's about time you guys stop bitching about how bad this place is becoming. It's OUR forum, and it's OUR responsibilty to help police and maintain a civil place to exchange information.

I apologize for the rant, but it's really getting sad. Let's all clean it up folks. I like this forum, and many of the posters. There are some posters that would get beat to the deck daily if they behaved in the real world like they do here. Then again, there are some truly gifted people here... in a lot of different areas. But it's overlooked because of the idiocy of some posters. Look at the locked thread count lately for a second opinion.

I would love to see the overall flaming stop, but sadly it seems that flaming your fellow forums members or valve employees is one of the HL/HL² community favorite passtimes. I really don't see and end in sight unless the mods start banning on sight flamers.

Someone goes into a thread and says "Damn... frigging Valve suck! I hate their PR!" That's fine. I agree that a simple post in the steam forums about the delay would have stoped alot of the anger.

Its one thing to to poke fun at gabe or each other (i do this alot), but to flame with words I will not use here is really just poor taste. Being mad is fine but you should not have to lower yourself to flaming to express yourself.

No one is saying to be a mindless consumer and not be angry when Valve misses a date.

But to insult some one personally is wrong especially about personal matters like weight, etc.

Valve is in crunch time. The preload is on the list, but it is NOT top priorety. The preload is nothing but a checkmark on a whiteboard in a room full of people that have had but a few hours sleep in the past weeks.

Are they lieing? Not intentially. They set a date, and missed it by 4 days (Or more) for, get this, a PRE LOAD. as in, a very unimportant part of finishing HL2. the preload means absolutly NOTHING to getting HL2 finished. It doesn't even mean that textures are done. It just means that any textures they do change are the only ones you download later.


And lastly, are ALL you people that are complaining buying HL2 off steam? If so, you have the slightest iota of right to complain. Otherwise, you have none whatsoever.

Thats what I agree with. I would rather have a "when its done" release date like ID software did. It would simplify a lot of things and the consumers would not have to be taken on a roller coaster ride of disappointment.

So maybe you deserve a "instan ban, lasting~1 week."

Also, I am buying it off Steam (see Grand Architect) and would appreciate some form of notice when a delay occurs. Nothing aggravates people more than being ignored.

I really agree, abusive posts serve no positive purpose, and just spoil the forums.

Here's a thought: Anyone who flames Valve employees personally (for example in a recent thread, someone called Gabe a "gutless coward" who has "no integrity", simply because he doesn't post here) should be banned instantly, and that ban should last until the day HL2 comes out. Once it's out, these ungrateful people will have what they've been so anxious to get their hands on, and they'll have no reason, even in their own minds (I hope), to fill this place with mindless abuse.

So please, everyone report abusive posts. These forums have severely deteriorated, and there are far too many self-important, ungrateful whingers filling them up with mindless garbage.
