This was posted in a kinda off topic fashion so I had to start a new thread to reply.
"hey! gotta ask u guys one thing, a few years ago, something really weird happened when i was installing my HL. It started speaking, some file or whatever it was, for some reason just started. and there were a few people talking. it was so weird...anybody know what the hell happened???? (maybe its a bit off topic, but rather this then making a new threah)" - azmodan
That never happened to me, but something similiar happened to me once back when Counter-Strike was like beta5 or something.
One time I was playing a level from Counter-Strike in a LAN game early in the morning by myself. I was just looking at the architecture since I'm a mapper myself, when suddenly I hear this old voice saying, "This is not a radio, this is a computer!". At first I thought I triggered a wav in the map so I stoped right where I was, and starting observing my area to see if there was any buttons or something else I could have triggered it with.
I found nothing, and as hard as I tried by repeating my movements through the map I could not retrigger the voice, infact the voice was still going until I eventualy decided to escape Half-Life, and check cstrike folders sound directory for the voice I heard over and over again. I loaded the entire directory into winamp as a playlist and listened to every single one, but none of the wavs had that voice. I was going to check the entire Half-Life sounds, but instead decided to simply decompile the map with WinBSP.exe and check the entitie data explicitly. Oddly enough the map had no ambient_generic ents (Used for playing sounds in maps) anywhere in the map! Till this day I can't figure out what the hell that was.
Sorry but I forgot the name of the map, it was a subway terminal station of some sort with a glass ceiling room. The map was included with one of the CS beta's but quickly dropped in the following beta for some reason.
Anyone else have an odd experience while playing HL?
(Please only real ones, no bs or sarcasm)
