Strange topic

What if you're perfectly normal, but are walking through an asylum.

Exactlly, how do we not know that insane people are the only ones to see the world for what it is.

I'm a firm believer that you don't go to heaven/hell when you die.

My reasoning: Our personalities and memories are physically destructible. If you severely injure your brain (and live), you can lose your memories and you can lose your personality. Obviously it's happened to tons of people, so that, to me, is proof that none of our traits are connected to our consciousnesses. So when we die and our brains rot in our graves, so do our memories and everything else that makes us who we are. It's depressing to think about, but I doubt I could ever convince myself otherwise.

I have theories as to what does happen, but I don't really feel like getting into them now.

How does Christianity make any more sense than the ancient polytheistic Greek religion? I don't understand why people think that older religions of more primitive societies are rediculous and wrong but current religions somehow make sense.

I believe that religious people are living a lie. You can either choose to candy-coat the world or choose to face the truth. The truth is, we don't know how the universe came to be nor do we know what happens after death. Then again, anything is possible and we are all entitled to our opinions but this is what I think.

Yes i do feel that all other religions are wrong. Someone is bound to bring up the Jews. I know they are right, but they still ignore the fact that Jesus was the son of God. I still think they are "Gods chosen people" and are very much blessed by him. Which funnily enough is most likely the reason they are so persecuted, because they have been chosen by God, the devil wants to attack them at every turn. (For some reason i can a picture of some of you laughing there. Oh well)

It makes plenty of sense to be frank. And i was in fact saying that its silly how people believe things from the past to be ridiculous. I know that before Jesus came, obviously Christianity didn't exist. It wasn't so easy for people to be saved because they had to live such pure lives. Now you give your life to God and thats it. Stick to the rules and ask for forgiveness if you break them and you are fine.

There is much that i have to explain, but simply don't have the time to do over the internet in this way. How exactly is trying to live as pleasurable life as possible, while ignoring what is going on throughout the world, "facing the truth"?

There are many things about other religions that can in fact very well be explained by Christian belief. Take for instance your example of the Greek gods. There are mentions in the bible of fallen angles being banished to earth, and its possible there were the Greek gods upon mount Olympus. There are story's of the gods mating with the woman of earth and bringing forth these giant, strong people such as Hercules. These are what we call the nephelim (don't know the spelling). They know these giants existed, because they have found beds and such on large scales. The beds being 13 foot long. They also found skeletons as well (although i cant remember the source for that so its a bit dodgy)

I do know that Jesus is the only way to salvation, call me closed minded or whatever you like. I know I'm right. I also know there is nothing for you to say, that will convince me otherwise.

Before anyone complains, I'm also not going to start compromising in any way now. To long have Christians try to bend Christianity to fit in with such things as Political Correctness. Its time that stopped.

On another note. My computer just overheated and so i had to sit around for about half an hour trying to get the internet working again.

Agh...I hate conversations like these, I just had one with a girl who had very similar views to Mr. Sparrow, she was completley blind to evertyhing except her fundamental baptist views of Jesus Christ, now I am no atheist, and I consider myself a religious man, but I simply couldnt take her rantings about how all other religions were evil and how they had to become christians to save themselves, and that she was blessed simply because she was a christian, particularly a baptist. She spoke of going off and converting everyone she met, in order to "save them from going to hell, or to "cure" them of their sins, because she had the authority, she was somehow "better" than they, she was "chosen" by god.

I let this go on for about 3 minutes, until I layed it in on her. I had a 3 and a half hour conversation that had me "condemed to go to hell" on several occasions. I will never have one of those conversations again, simply, I feel that her intellect and belifs didnt deserve my attention, and that she was simply naive.

I dont agree with her beliefs, nor do I agree with the belifs of many others, but I cant condemn her or people with other beliefs as my own, because that is how they interpret the world, it is usless to argue with them, but I must simply accept them. The truth is, no one knows whether there really is a god, or how god thinks, or how his plans for the universe work, there is no telling how exactley the universe works, or how we came to be, and thus, there are many religions and people with their own belifs of what is true. But probably, no religion or belief is entirley true, and I think it will be a very very long time before we know the truth about the universe, and until then, we must simply accept the beliefs of others, and tolerate them, as well as have our own beliefs, and live them out as we see fit.

By the way, I remembered funny cartoon, that I saw back in Russia. I don’t really remember what it was about, but I remember a part, where two physicists were arguing about something. So one of them proved to other guy, by using some kind of formulas and logic, that he doesn’t exist in fact, so that guy just vanished :) I found it amusing.

Anyway, any of you seen Fight Club or Beautiful Mind? Now to have that kind of disease is scary.

May I answer your first by saying no. The truth and what is is a consistent entity despite our sometimes shifting view of that, what we believe does not change what really is, for if that kid with his wheelchair rocket went into a road that he thought was space, he would die and cease existing and we would witness it as such, if we all thought that despite of it we would still all die and reality would still impose limits on us. That is the point of reality is that it doesn't dictate to your whim but enforces limit on you, we as people generally shape our beliefs about reality, its those who try to shape reality to their beliefs that end up in a bad way.

Second, people blame god for bad happenings cause they are ignorant and selfish in most cases. I mean i may have blamed god for things when I was about 7 and I'm sad to say that many people don't mature beyond that but hey whatever. Also you cannot prove where we came from so its sort of ignorant to discuss it no?

The chap in Fight Club didn't have a disease. He suffered from a severe lack of sleep.

He had a multiple personality disorder. But the lack of sleep didn't help either.
