Street Fighter 4!

Ryu and Dudley most of the time
"Gutta traaash"

Ryu is the only true master of the fist. Actually to be honest the only reason I play him at all is because I really like his character (that stoic discipline and continuous training), and I never really played him at all in 3S until after I started using him on my P Groove team in CvS2. I started off playing Elena for New Generation/Second Impact, and then Makoto in 3S.

She's fairly straightforward once you get the hang of her. It's mostly choke, HP, CHESTO!

Also, Dudley is awesome. He fights with dignity.

WHAT? :frown:
Said: Hear the one about the nun?

This drunk guy comes out of a bar, and walks up to a nun in this big black cape.

WHAM! He slugs her in her teeth. WHAM! She goes down. After a few minutes he stops, looks at her and says: "You're not so tough, Batman!"

Vinz: That's a killer!

Said: He thought the nun was Batman!

Vinz: I heard it with a rabbi.

I'll always remember that joke not because of Batman, but because I remember it won $50 in a Playboy (or some other rag) joke contest.

Watching people fight using Fei Long at the start of that video, I'm still disappointed they put him in there instead of my delicious drill-haired Karin Kanzuki. Karin is far superior to Fei Long in every way. Fei Long's rushing punches, the rekkaken, has no variance...it's three forward-moving punches. That's all it does. Karin's kourenken can be three punches, or finish with a palm strike, or her anti-air kick, a slide kick, or a counter. Kourenken has the best mixup game for a single move that I can think of, for any SF character.

Fei Long's got the rising dragon kick, which has higher reach than Karin's mujin kyaku, and hits three times instead of twice, but I don't consider it THAT big an advantage. Karin's ressen ha is the same as Fei Long's rekkukyaku.

Their super arts are pretty much the same.

But one thing that Karin has that Fei Long doesn't have are COUNTERS. Geese Howard-style command counters. And as I said, she can go into a counter at the end of her kourenken, to catch people trying to get a poke in at you or a sweep kick between your punches.

Oh and she's got that 360 command throw for wakeups.

Man, why'd they even put Fei Long in there? Capcom haet Karin. :(

I don't know enough about street fighter really, but was Karin in 2? If she wasn't maybe thats why. Anyways I thought the vid was cool, especially with the trash talking and what not on the new characters, I just wish they had played as more than ryu/ken. Jesus does everyone and their mother have to play either ryu or ken?? I know they're iconic, but come onn...

Karin was in Alpha 3. She's Sakura's rival, which is one of the reasons I think she should've been in there.

If they brought back Sakura, and wanted to fill a spot with Fei Long, why not go for Karin and get a better Fei Long, PLUS a rival for one of the new characters?

Plus Fei Long was supposed to have given up on fighting anyway, because he knew he could never equal Bruce Lee.

I'll never understand people who prefer pads to sticks. Maybe more of you guys played at home instead of the arcade.

Bingo bango.

I played at the arcade now and then, but I don't think it'd quite be the same thing unless the stick was nailed down or something.

OH MY GOD

Gouken has kongoshin! Fffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. I was all set to once again master Ryu's fist, and then maybe start maining Abel, but after watching that video...Capcom, what have you done? Oro-esque fireball, joudan sokuto geri as his focus attack, and COUNTERS? You gave him COUNTERS?! Are you attempting to make me invincible, Capcom? You can't give me counters! Did you learn nothing from Alpha 3 and CvS2?

Damn it I didn't even want to play Gouken, really. I'm still miffed he's been resurrected. But he has kongoshin. This is ridiculous. I am throwing up my hands in exasperation and disbelief.

Also, last night I got my hands on the training manual. :D It's an artbook/movelist thing. Pretty cool.

Kongoshin. Goddamn.

Once again you manage to talk about SF without me having a clue what you're saying :)

Basically I'm saying that Capcom was oh so unwise to put a character with a command counter in the roster. It becomes unfair if you give me a character who has counters. Now, you give that same character a directional, charge fireball (Oro from SF3 could control the direction of his projectile with the buttons as well), and a focus attack which is Ryu's best move from SF3, shit gets ridiculous unfair. I'm just going to stand still and counter all day, like a pillar. The Pillar of Gouken.

It's a good thing they didn't give him an air fireball, otherwise I'd practically have Geese Howard in a Street Fighter game.

Maybe it is too early to tell, but if Gouken is really that broken it will be banned from tournaments, and poeple online will be quitting the matches if someone selects it.
So far I haven't seen the latest CAPCOM tournaments at San Francisco being won by a Gouken player but like I said, too early to tell...

Oh well **** me. I was kind of dismissive of getting a stick over a nice pad, but that video just about sold me. Shit looks QUALITY.

Anyone have any idea if you'd be able to hook that up to a PC? I'd put down a pre-order right ****ing now if I knew I could use it for emulato-- uhh, legitimate PC games.

I'm so close to spending a silly amount of money on that arcade stick:

Good luck, they're all sold out except for ebay. Enjoy spending $300+ dollars.

Oh and also Hat you should be able to hook the PS3 arcade stick to PC. I already use my sixaxis on this thing.

There's more stock on the way. They probably won't make launch, but there'll be TE sticks for those that want them.

But by then it'll be too laaaaaaaaaaaaate!

I'm just going to go ahead and get the cheap-o stick for now and get the TE later.

Bit of poking around reveals that the 360 sticks should work fine on PC - any wired controllers just work through Microsoft's drivers (and wireless can work through an adapter). No telling how well, but if it works on 360, I don't see why it shouldn't work the same on PC.

So what's the different between the regular and TE sticks? Just cheaper parts/less pretty exterior?

Pretty much. The TE is made with the same components as the arcade machine and it looks pretty much identical. It has a little flip up door in the front for storing the cable and you can screw it down to a surface. It's meant to be very easy to mod if you're into that kind of thing - put a new stick, change buttons etc. It looks pretty heavy.

I'm thinking of going for the cheaper of the sticks now as I tend to play with on my lap rather than on a table.

I used to have this heavy wooden cabinet stick for my PS2 that I played with on my lap. I miss that stick. ;(

And to be perfectly honest I like the design of the standard fightsticks more than than the TE; all the characters on the face instead of the red lacquer.

Played it for 2 hours last night and its just how I expected it to be. The gampplay is perfect, exactly what a street fighter game should be like. The graphics are amazing with great attention to detail on each character (especially the facial expressions during combat).

Im using a normal 360 pad and can pull off moves with ease, you don’t need to buy that Mad Katz pad or an arcade stick. I found using the analogue stick to do ultra moves easier than using the D pad.

Ive played through the single player campaign as Ken on Medium and found the AI easy up until you get to Seth. That mother fu&^er is so hard!! When you play him after the first round and win he "reenergises" himself and then hes almost impossible to beat. Hes fast and can almost predict what your gonna do. The worst thing is tha the can teleport fast and so this throws you off when your about to lay into him with a mean combo. Also get too close and he throws you with ease. I did finally beat him after like 10 goes but didn’t get an achievement or anything! Grrrr

Now heres what I dont like. Blankas voice acting makes him out to be a stupid CBBC villain monster type creature and the voice acting for him is terrible. We were told the 360 version will have more of a story element in the single player... bolox. The only story for Ken was the single player Ken scenario starts ogg with an anime cartoon of Ken sat on his weight training bench looking at a Postcard from Ryu asking for a rematch. Ken asks his pregnant for permission to go spa with Ryu and she says yes. thats the end of Kens intro story. You then go and have a regular bout with Ryu with no added dialogue to state Ken and Rys are friends or anything like that. After beating Ryu its the usual fight 6 or 7 opponents (last one is Seth) and then you get Kens second and final cut scene. He goes back home and asks his wife if shes and baby is ok.... thats it the end. What a joke! No achievement unlocked either. Was hoping for a more story based single player telling the player about the characters past and what their intentions are for being in Street Fighter, but instead the storys are more like gimmicky anime cartoons trying to get the player more involved into the game but it fails badly.

Overall its a great game and Im sure multilayer will where its at. Pulling off a 17 hit ultra combo to defeat your foe has never been so exhilarating in a fighting game. Well done Capcom, you've delivered the goods on this one :-)

The graphics do seem dummed down compared to the Arcade version, the shading is not as intense and some of the extra effects are missing too, still looks gorgeous

Oh and When Ken does his spinning kick he doesn’t say “tatsumaku-sempi-kiyaku” he just growls which is a shame.

How are you playing it on console right now? Don't make me kill you...

Sounds like Seth has Gill's "REGENERATION!" which is kinda cool. I wonder if Seth's regen has the same weakness Gill's does...

Also don't forget you can unlock different voice actors, so hopefully if you don't like one the other will suffice.

You then go and have a regular bout with Ryu with no added dialogue to state Ken and Rys are friends or anything like that.
I don't think there's anyone who doesn't know that. Children come out of the womb knowing that.

And Ken might have lost saying "tatsumaki" but he gains Jotaro Kujo-esque, "ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA" for his ultra.

A freind has got a flashed 360. Seth does not regenerate like Gill does, he enery doesnt come back. He just says something like "now feel my true power", then te round starts and you instantly notice he uses all his powers to beat you as soon as he can... I was litereally just sat there watching him teleport around the screen and hitting me from all directions.

Man, I can't wait to get this either. This month is going to be expensive again. There is just too much coming out for those of us with home consoles and handhelds. :(

Sad to hear about Ken's language though. Those phrases were some of the best fun of playing them.

Ryu still says "tatsumaki," though. At least in arcades.

And February IS expensive. Too much stuff coming out this month.

Good. I like him more anyway. :O

And February IS expensive. Too much stuff coming out this month.
My list consists of

Dragon Quest V (DS)
Dawn of War II (PC)
Street Fighter IV (PS3)
Demon's Souls (PS3)
Killzone 2 (PS3)
Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? (PSP)
Star Ocean: The Last Hope (360)

We will have to see what gets pushed back due to lack of funds until next month...or later! ;(

I love Ryu as a character, but I'm trying to distance myself from using him. I want to use other people...last week I spent every waking moment playing 3S with my friends, and I just wanted to get away from being Ryu. As I put it to one of my friends after I defeated him soundly, "This is why I don't want to play Ryu. Don't make a monster out of me."

I think I'm going to main Abel for IV.

But I'm entering a tourney on the 21st, and man...I have a feeling I'm going to select Ryu at one point, because I need a pass to the second stage of the tournament. Finals will be in SF, and anyone who makes it there goes to Evo in Vegas.

I was getting the PC version of SF4 (for the higher res's and cripser visuals) but it seems it's been delayed, which is always the case with Capcoms PC releases, so I've "obtained" the 360 version to play until then, which I will, when my missus stops watching shitty ghost programs so I can get on the ****ing x-box.

Ha, you've got the game already, I just got back from getting the fightstick.

So, the standard fightstick is a pretty solid piece, more than I was actually expecting. Hefting it versus my Dreamcast arcade stick, it's heavier, but nowhere close to my old Pelican Tournament Edition. The ball stick is good, has a nice feel to it, and the square restrictor actually isn't a bother at all, like I thought it would be. I'm used to a circular or octagonal gate, but what they say about square plates finding the corners seems to be true.

The buttons are kinda "light" on this stick; it isn't a problem or anything, but they just feel somewhat...light. Insubstantial. I don't know how better to explain it. I assume this is one of the reasons the $150 sticks are said to have higher-grade parts; these buttons don't have a real "snap" or weight to them. I'm sure you understand what I'm talking about if you've used arcade sticks.

Thing's not flat, either. It's got a bit of a downcurve below the buttons and the stick. Interesting aesthetic, serves no real purpose but looks. Also I am digging the face on this thing--the original eight World Warriors are displayed, and I just now realized whose giant fists these are. (Dhalsim's, haha. He's punching across the controller)

You've all heard the features like Start and Select being on the back, turbo (two speeds), there's a switch to make the joystick function as either D-pad, left analog, or right analog; there's a button lock. Home button is right on top, though...I don't assume it'll be a problem at all, but it's a button I would have assumed would've also been on the back. Oh, also I should note that the cable is 4 meters long.

So all in all, a pretty good stick. Worth the price if you can't find/afford one of the TEs.

I'll be practicing using this thing on Tekken 5 until I get SFIV, WHICH BTW I almost didn't get. Turns out the preorders for the Collector's Edition ended yesterday at GameStop, and other stores have been out for awhile, but I managed to snag one at a store that still had some--but I'll be getting it the 19th instead of the 17th.

But I also managed to score two gigantic SFIV posters that were put up on display, because no one had claimed them. Score.

Was playing SF4 for another 2 hours last night, its just so damn enjoyable! Reminds me alot of SF2 Turbo in relation to the timing andcharachter roster. Ive found out how to unlock Seth.... you have to complete Arcade mode with every non-unlockable charachter. Once youve got Seth, you then need to complete Arcade mode with every unlockable charachter to get Akuma.

I was doing the old combos and moves I used to do with Ken/Ryu on SF2 Turbo and they are still effectine in this game. Eg, for Zangief just keep jumping straight up and when he gets close do a HK and it will land 99% of the time, boring but works. Zangief is relly hard to beat on the ground, you gotta use air attacks and projectiles. He has this very fast reverse fist punch which is devestaing when it lands.

Been practising more using the EX Moves and the "absorb counter" thingy, works really well.

Hey Darkside55, are you getting it on xbox 360?
