Striders = Really big Antlions?

When it comes to the combine, I always go back to that concept art of the thing that looks like a face hugger in body armour. I think it's a safe bet to say that the combine are a human attempt at placing a mechanical control (?) onto newly discovered alien life forms (and humans maybe). After all, there's little indication of any alien technology (from the first game) as they seem entirely organic in nature. Technology, in the half life universe, has always been a human thing, no?

it would be really cool, if you could control-remote the Striders, yeah maybe those Gunships to...

Someone mentionned that combines are used to harvest crops. Thats true, and seeing as how that black wall is 'eating' city-17 up its not impossible that they are 'harvesters' of different systems. Maybe there was a second black mesa and another world was unlocked.

Crops is the general term used when refering to harvested foodstuffs, like wheat.

I wonder how many legs a strider could lose before it stopped operating? Maybe it could stay up with 2 if it had some sort of advanced gyro in it like a Segway...

i thinks maybe the one leg taken out would put them down,, seems too lanky too support itself on two.. plus i think that the striders and gunships are a Biological and technological combination created by the combine, who seem to want to guard and make sure that some great plan comes together, .. that massive spire building eating away city 17 must be the central point of everything the combine stand for, who knows what their motives could be. really. but its definately something to do with that growing metal looking tower, perhaps its intelligent? and just wants to consume everything, perhaps it appeared through a dimensional portal from Xen.. or its from another Dimension....? ,,, a third one, that has been found.. ? speculate speculate.. lol
