I believe the problems has something to do with steam. (yes you probably knew that allready) if i install halflife1 via CD everything works just fine, if i install via Steam everything locks at random basis. I have tried the following:
complete os reinstall xpsp2 w latest windows update
nvidia 5750 pci express
3,6 ghz cpu
2 gb ram 3200
2 sata 10k in stripe
complete os reinstall xpsp2 w latest windows update
ati x600 pci express
3,6 ghz cpu
2 gb ram 3200
2 sata 10k in stripe
both installations using the latest graphics drivers from either ati or nvidia. There is slightly less stuttering and lockups when using ati, but not anything to write home about.......
