Suits?

Do you ever wear a suit? Do you like them?

First time I had to wear a suit regularly was back in sixth-form at school. I remember it being a big deal at the time, but after the first couple of weeks the novelty wore off fast. These days I've got a whole bunch of suits, mainly for the many random jobs I've had over the last couple of years. Haven't had to wear one since the end of Jan though... :(

I love wearing suits, but there aren't many times I am required to.

I don't wear one often (unless you count school uniform) but when I do wear a proper one, I feel ****ing mean, up until the point when its disco time at a wedding, and you start sweating.

I'm not a fan of the "job interview" suit, the one you wouldn't normally wear any other time.

However when you get to be a bit more free in what you wear (a bit more bling, a bit less M&S white cotton shirt) suits can look pretty good.

Suits aren't as comfortable as say a t-shirt and jeans, thats for sure, but the biggest gripe is the uncomfortable nature of the suit shoes after a while in them.

I probably just need to buy better suit shoes but I don't suit up often enough or for lnog enough to make it a genuine gripe.

This, to overuse a tired expression, they look "pimpin".

Way to totally delete my name as the source of your last quote. :(

I'm deleting you harder then Russian democracy.

Who could do such a thing?

Uh, for the sake of this thread, I'll have to just say: suits are peachy keen.

I like em, but I've never worn em. I could at my job, but I enjoy my 20 dollar outfit from Wal-Mart. I did the "Spend 200 bucks on clothes to look snazzy"....screw that.

WTF, how is it that there are so many suit wearers...unless you are counting some shitty school dance or something?

98% of the time suits are just gay and uncomfortable.

Suits are awesome.

I usually wear at least a shirt and jacket. It feels awesome, separates you from the plebs.

I quite like rocking the white shirt, suit-jacket, good jeans and sneakers look.[/FONT]

Oh hell no. You do not wear a suit jacket with jeans. You can wear a sports jacket or a blazer but NOT a suit jacket.. for starters they're too long. I could go on.

I used to wear a suit for work, and I will have to again soon.

Also, $200 cannot buy you a good outfit, $200 gets you good jeans or a half-decent pair of shoes.. P

A sports jacket is what I meant, but not what I said.

You, sir, are and idiot.

Suits are the coolest mother****ing thing you can wear.

Baggy pants?
Oversized t-shirts?

A suit blows it all out of the water.

Whatever happened to the days when you could find a man wearing a full suit walking down the street with his briefcase?

Pf. Cars.

You people are weird...
I wouldn't wear a suit even if I was going to a wedding or funeral where it's customary, let alone wearing a suit otherwise.

i want to wear a suit because whenever i see someone wearing a tux i think of scar face. and if were talking buisness i always thought buisness suits reminded me of the gman and i think hes badass!

Depends, if I were in Miami dressed in a suit with a nice car than yes I would wear suits..

^

Of course you would, you're already in one.

Badger is right. If you want a proper suit be ready to spend quite some money or not buy a suit at all.

I come across too many people wearing cheap crappy non-tailored suits because it's "bad ass" but they are too cheap to spend good money on an amazing piece of clothing.

If you want a suit, get one tailor made. It'll last you a lifetime.

As for shoes. A good pair of leather shoes, preferably something like Church's, will look amazing under a good suit and will also last a lifetime if properly maintained.

I can rant about this for quite some time, as Badger or for example Sulkdodds knows, but if anyone wants any help or pointers feel free to ask in this thread if you're serious about looking like a gentleman.

I'd Like one.

But wearing it around Singapore is suicide. Heat+Humidity

I good suit doesn't have to be expensive, you pay half for the name/brand you have on your suit, and if its not a famous name/brand, you only pay the other half. Price doesnt say too much about quality. I paid 150 euro's for a quality linnen suit, another 40 for a black shirt, 20 for a good belt.

There are quite a few good tailors in Singapore though. CYC, at the Raffles Hotel Arcade, is amazing but for those who are willing to spend some cash. I've been there once and I'm quite happy with what I saw.

It's all about how the suit fits. You could get an okay suit at for example suitsupply and it will be a stock item which they will modify here and there so it fits you better. But a real proper suit is tailormade to your measurements, has you have to come back to the tailor 3 to 4 times to make sure it's okay and feels like a second skin.

Personally I go for the real, proper, thing. But it's whatever you want.

Also: a black shirt? What?

I noticed that every single chick was checking me out!

To the untrained eye, a fleeting look of confusion, rage and 'why is he wearing that in public' can be mistaken for being checked out.

Hell yeah! I love suits! They make me feel "boss" if yah know what I mean.

I think i'll head to downtown Toronto sometime this summer wearing my suit and just walk around and make people think I'm some important guy.

I believe i saw some girl spike her own drink and order me to take her home, no really  !!

Aren't you a little bit posh? What kind of jeans and shoes you mean?

Jeans like APC/Real Real/Acne... PRPS, selvedge etc :) aka actually good quality clothes that don't look like high street toss.

Shoes wise, Church's, Grenson - essentially good quality leather shoes, preferrably benchmade that if you take good care of them will last for years and years.

Never scrimp on a suit. If I compare an unbranded suit that cost me £120 and my £550 Paul Smith suit, they've both had equal wear, except the cheaper one is already loosing it's fit, and is starting to wear through on the inside of the trousers. The Paul Smith one looks the same as it did when I first saw it.

When I get married, I'm doing so in a bespoke suit ... already know the cloth I want :D

Cheap clothes are false economy.

OK, I'm not sure if I would want to wear something called Acne, I'm one of those cheap people who wear Lee and Levi's jeans...
Agree about shoes (Church's are great) and suits, though.

I have to wear suits for work.

Costs me a damn fortune.
