Super Mario Galaxy reviewed... :(

It looks so awesome :)

I just discovered i'll be away on a 8 day residential course when Galaxy is released. **** flaps!

Crysis beater tbh. :D

This + Mario Kart Wii + Brawl = the reason that Wii is the only next-gen console I give a shit about. My 360 is collecting dust and I think that I'd get tired of Motorstorm after a while if I had a PS3.

Games tm (the only magasine other than Edge that I trust) gave Galaxy a 9/10 - 'a landmark videogame'. They also broke Orange Box into sections and gave a 9/10 for each game - which kinda makes more sense than the Edge review.

I'll be picking up a Wii just to play it :).

(Well, and of course Brawl, gotta get my MP fix)

Did they mention any criticisms of the game in their review, or did they just not want to give it a 10/10 by some bizarre reasoning like "it could have been better"?

Not sure, haven't picked up a copy yet. Either way, 9 or 10, it looks like a cracking game

Badhat, you are a god damn asshole, I almost had a heart attack before the alt text came up on the thread link.

QFT....son of a bitch...scared the shit out of me.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of these. I think Casamassina from IGN is planning on dumping a 10 down on this game based on the way he's been talking about it. Insanely excited....

I was beginning to think my Wii was a waste of money, as I've only bought Zelda so far, but this has renewed my interest.

I have to say this is one of the biggest no-brainer buys of the year and I certainly hope it scores at least as high as Bioshock as it seems to push the boundaries of the genre as much imho.

You, my friend, are missing out on a lot of great stuff then. RE4 for the Wii is amazing, as is Zack & Wiki, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Super Paper Mario, Harry Potter (if you like that kind of thing) and many more that I don't have. Galaxy, Brawl, and Kart only make it that much more amazing, not to mention all of the stuff that will be coming out that we have not heard of yet!

Don't forget Battalion Wars II. No reviews yet except the one in Nintendo Power, which was 7.5, but I'm expecting a higher average than that.

Thats been reviewed? I thought it was not coming out until 08

Matt never gives out tens. IGN, the Wii channel especially, has a habit of over-hyping stuff and then slamming down a 7.0 in the final review. I'm expecting something along the lines of maybe 9.7, but I think that ten is so elusive these days that it's impossible to get. All those games that previously did get such high scores (Ocarina Of Time and the Oracle Zelda games come to mind) probably wouldn't get tens these days, that's for sure.

Obviously, they're like 10 years old now and 3D has been done to death

Context is very important, and those games were groundbreaking, wonderfull games which more than deserved the scores they were given back then

I can't wait to play this, just gotta buy a wii first >_<

Never really had high hopes for it, then again, I don't have a Wii to play it on. :( I want.

This has been my #1 anticipated game on any system since they announced it. Just under 2 more weeks :D

Anyone happen to live in Japan? It comes out tomorrow.

For those of you who are for some reason scared of spoilers for the game, don't go on japanese sites until it's out in whichever country you're in.

It's been leaked that a surprise is to be unlocked when you finish the game with all 120 stars. :O

Well, I'm personally not convinced it's going to be a 10, but it's definitly going to be up there. If you look at how Matt reviewed MP3, one of his biggest complaints was that it didn't take the genre to the next level..."feels like more of the same". Assuming everything else is at a high enough standard (nearing perfection) the revolutionizing this game should do to platforming may just be enough to grab Matt's first 10. I'm actually predicting a 9.9. :bounce:

1Up has the final import and talks about it here....

I'm fairly certain Mario 64 and OoT would have received similar scores even if reviewed by today's slightly stricter criteria. Games don't get much more flawless. Personally, I feel games should be reviewed on fun factor alone and would give Galaxy a 'perfect' score if it was as much fun as Mario 64 was back in the day, regardless of whether it introduces anything new or not.

Off topic a little. Metroid Prime 3 has been so let down by the first level. Thankfully i'm way passed that now, enjoying exploring and upgrading as per normal, but the first hour or so was utter, utter shite.

It's been leaked exactly what it is, too. It's not hard to find; I won't post it here because I think a lot of people don't want to be spoiled (myself included; I didn't intend to find out exactly what it was, but rest assured that it's an awesome reward).

yeah I already knew what it was but I won't tell regardless I can tell you that it's awesome!

Yeah sure if anyone else wants to know just pm me.

Damn all the people with modded Wii's now. The game was leaked a few days ago, but now they finally got past the protection on the game and people are playing it.

*extremely jealous*

9.5 from 1UP, 5/5 Gamepro.

My excitement for this game is only getting higher. D/ling the 1UP show because they talk about the game in this ep.

Great 1up review. I was going to quote various bits that sound awesome, but it soon became obvious i'd be quoting almost the entire review :)

There are so many excellent games coming out this month/year, but if all of them were in my house right now it'd be Galaxy that would get played first.

I like how they talked about "flaws" in their review but never mentioned any thing specific. Nice.

In IGN's latest podcast, Matt said that the game was not quite perfect and that there were a few quibbling issues. They didn't say that a 10/10 was impossible, but it was implied that Galaxy would most likely get a 9.8 or 9.9. Of course, nothing wrong with that score.

Judging from the 1UP Show when they talked about Mario, they just complained about the camera a tad and how the shooting mechanic is kind of a take it or leave it thing.

The two-player does really "bleh".

"Help the other player collect stars!"
"Shoot stars at enemies!"
"Freeze enemies in their place for a few seconds!"

It's all just really tacked on it seems. It would be so boring to be that second person. If they had separate two player levels where the only way to beat it is by having the second player shoot enemies and freeze them and such.

I agree that it's tacked on, but it's still something. I know if I'm going to switch off with my roommate or something between stars, it'll be way more fun to help collect and shoot star shards than it would to just sit there.

That being said, I just got back from Gamestop. I was told over the phone that they offered 20% extra on trade-ins towards Mario Galaxy and an extra $10 for 2 360 trade-ins. I paid off all but $5 of it with a couple 360 games that I don't play anymore, nice. I was also told that I could play a Mario Galaxy demo in their kiosk. Well they lied. There was no demo.

The full game was in the kiosk. :D

I got to play for just about an hour. I collected only 4 stars and dicked around with the acrobatics + gravity and whatnot. There's some sweet satellite-style jumps you can make in the game. I had a blast messing around with it. I only left because people started forming a line behind me and the worker there told me to stop :P

I can't f*cking wait to play this on the 13th. I think I'll stop by the store again next week sometime, hopefully they'll have the game past the first couple galaxies by then.

Not completely, I can really imagine youngsters having fun with it.

I'd just like to take this moment and say that I WISH I BOUGHT A BLOODY WII WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE AND NOW I CAN'T AFFORD ONE AND THEY'RE SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE AND I'M GONNA GO CRY :(

I lost my borrowed Wii sometime ago and I'm keenly waiting for a special to pop up with at least two controllers. Lead up to Christmas and plenty of stock floating around. I'll jump on that the split second one becomes available.

So I played it at our Gamestop, and I must say the game is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, seriously I know it looks like what one might imagine an eight-year old would see while tripping on acid, but I couldn't be happier with the art direction in this game.

More and more reason to buy a Wii. Did I mention the game is gorgeous and actually makes the Wiimote/Nunchuck feel right? It's the first game I've played that feels deliberately and intricately designed from the ground up for the Wii control scheme - I love it.

Yeah, this is gonna be so great. I love reading reviews of the all-time classics (which this surely is destined to be).
