Well, I just bought Half Life two days ago. All I can say is that after 3 years of not having played it, and never having finished it in the first place, I can't believe what I've been missing! OMGWTFBBQ hl > all

I just hope that HL 2's story is even half as good as the original. If so, it will rox0r my sox0rs...

Also, it looks like Gabe hinted that they are porting HL 1 to the source, if so, I bet that's what they put in the Special Edition. What do you guys think will be in it?

I'm so glad you're enjoying your very first Half-Life experience! Ah, to be a HL virgin again... :)

cool :)
It's a nice game and I like people playing this game without stopping in 10 minutes because of the old graphics :)

Is that, "I just bought Half-Life 2, days ago" or "I just bought Half-Life, two days ago"

;)

Anyway, honostly some people may moan about the gameplay being 'too simple', but that's what makes it so good I think, it's fun to play. Some games you play just because you want to see the ending, and loading them up can be a drag. Half-Life is one of the rare games where you play it for the journey and the game itself.

I've been replaying the game for the past week or so... I beat it once way back, years ago. The second time I tried to play through it I lost interest because I kept checking this site every 15min for HL2 info (It was around July-August-Sept of 03) and I never got around to finishing it. Now I'm playing through, actually I bought Far Cry not too long ago and I love it but its still taking a backseat to Half-Life :)

FarCry + ATI 9800pro + Catalyst 4.4 drivers = buggy :(

Oh, the game has been out for 35 years ... .............

*sarcasm*

Ah, the memories.....

*remembers slipping off an edge into ALIEN SCUM*

yup, the scum.

This is the kind of thread that makes me happy :)

HL1 is all

its always great to see another gamer that appreciates the greatest(IMHO) FPS game ever created.

i think when HL2 is finally released, we should have a gathering and throw a party to celebrate the good old days of HL1. ahh, old school bunnyhopping + bounce.bsp(forgot the exact name...too lazy to look it up atm :)) + RPG goodness.

Let me add Broken Sword 2 and The Longest Journey into the list.

I think my favorite part of HL1 was how damn well the levels fit into each other. I mean, it wasn't like games where "Oh, I'm now in the lab, now I'm in a city with no idea how I got here," etc. But with HL1, you go from lab to stair wells to surface back down to...you get the picture. I mean, it is all lined up and the progression makes sense, it is great! Even the one part where you get "teleported" (not the Xen part, I'm talking about when Gordon gets beat up by the grunts and thrown into the trash compactor), that too is fun!

I loved HL1, and really look forward to #2! W00t!

I'm hoping when they port HL1, they will make the multiple approaches to defeat enemies as used in HL2, and including never before chapters (more varied NPC types), otherwise us with Elite status would be able to complete it within 5hours. Hope they do a kickass port of Op4

I always wanted to play The Longest Journey. I heard nothing but good things. Would it be worth picking up now?

Beyond Good & Evil is another FABULOUS game while you're waiting for HL2.

I played the demo, was it made by Looking Glass Studio's or someone?

I can't remember exactly, just that I liked the developer.

Its amazing that the best gaming experiances come from the unlikely of games

I completed FarCry over a week ago and I found it to be an unparalleled experience.

And you know what. It reminded me of the first time I played Half-Life.

In a word: Awesome.

Without question.

How the hell do you kill this chopper....
best way to take down helicopters is with rpgs (make sure you have the laser on to guide them) or the tau cannon secondary fire (charge up shot).

Hmmm...I'm risking an onslaugt here but, I think Half-Life was perfect in terms of length, as in there are some games, like Deus Ex 2, or Freelancer, that you never want to end, but I think HL ended at just the right amount of playing time...I have this feeling however that HL2 will be one of those games you don't want to end...

This is a coincidence since I just started replaying HL for the first time in about 2 years. Surface Tension is one of the best chapters/levels ever made. I even discovered something new! At the beginning of the game I went to the employee lounge and kept activating the microwave oven until the bowl of soup blew up! Never knew it would do that.

I havent got a clue, bit its somewhere in the middle, "Freeman is captured"?

something like that

One of my best HL1 moments (And this aint bullshite either).I was on a surface lvl and one of those tan APC's had just burst through this wall.It was fireing its MG and I was attacking it with RPG and those Det packs while taking cover behind some boxes.
It was still going and I lept out to fire me RPG but Missed and ran outta ammo and for some reason the game Defaulted the weapon to the glock.I fired one round of the glock at the APC and **BOOM**

It was perhaps one of the funniest things ever to happen to me.I know its not realistic but ****ing hell was it brilliant

Its at the end of Apprehension. Dont know a map number tho. (Apprehension is the 8th Chapter)

I remember my first HL1 experience......
I actually didn't hear about HL1 until early 2000, and this was from a "friend". (I put it in quotes because he really wasn't a friend and it's a very, very, very, very, very long story) Basically what happened is that I burned the game off of him, played, and beat it before him. He then paid me to see the ending, (what a wierdo) and I got on to all the MODs and stuff for it (ah, back when CS was in 5.5 beta......). I replayed the game over and over and over......... Then I finally bought a legal copy about 2 months ago, I had lost my burned one and wanted to use Steam.

I played and beat it again.

I love that game.

I'm on interloper right now, in the second half the alien factory thing, almost to the last boss...to bad I have barely any ammo...

In which case, I'd guess c2a3.bsp

After playing though, it is map c2a3e - I was close!

I wasn't able to play the level though - I was stuck up the top and couldn't move down, and the walls didn't start to close.
