I've been looking around for several sword arts and Im very dissapointed. I thought it was more like starwars, fast, tons of swings and very brutal but in the end it isnt. Atleast not Kendo. So my question is, is there any sword art that reminds alot of what you can see in movies like Star Wars, The Last Samuraj etc

Yeah, my friends and I got these 3 foot fiberglass rods and started fighting eachother with them, they hurt like a bitch but it was a lot of fun.

Probably not. A sword is heavy and not something to be swung around without a care.

me and my friend usually take those plastic baseball bats that little kids use (my friends little brother's...) and fight with those, it's hella fun but it hurts like a son of a bitch when you get slammed in the face with one...

What about the light swords you see in pirate movies?

Yeah I wanted to try that, it looks like it would be fun.

Hahaha, I've done that many times -- so very fun.

But i ment like chinese and japnese swords

Ninjitsu, they use an adapted version of it for the Star Wars 'style'.

You'll be hard pressed to find a Bujinkan Ninjitsu Dojo that isn't karate dressed up, but good luck.

Ninjitsu! Unless I'm mistaken that's an awful lot more than just sword-fighting and he'd probably have to do a lot of other stuff before getting to sword.

Well, you can't just pick up a Katana or Ninja-to and start swinging it around, especially garfield, he killed a cook you know.

If you really want to learn about swords and martial arts, Garfield_ then do it properly, you are not a jedi and there is no such thing as The Force.

Im trying to find something interesting, fast and brutal and i might concider taking lessons

GAH! Katans did not have so different weight from european swords! In fact a one handed european sword could weight about 3 pounds only.

That said I do train fencing, have not done so for a long time but the sabers are light and the fight is rather fast paced (but not burtal - brutal swings = bad idea, it opens your defenses and is against the fencing rules).

I dont know what it is called exactly but it orginates from the frensh fencing sport.

*cough* Katana + Kendo = you be stylin

Or some shit like that.

I think Star Wars uses a modified stage combat style, with a few added fancy swings and stuff.

We learned about it in school :|

You have to remember that the fights are all choreographed in movies.

What the **** is that supposed to mean, "fast and brutal"?

With that childish attitude, no one will teach you anything.

You're too immature to do this, grow the **** up.

You dont just get into a martial art to become brutal, the point of martial arts is MARTIAL SKILL....SELF DISCIPLINE, ect ect.

I never said i was going to use it or be brutal. With fast i mean like in Star Wars, looks insanly hard to learn and very cool too.

Exactly.

Seems like most people tend to forget the second word when it comes to martial arts. Art....it's an art form guys. Most martial arts out there are crap when it comes to real life fighting and so on.

It's about self discipline and making yourself better both mentally and body wise.

Might consider... :|
So you're saying you might just get a sword and self-teach yourself... haha... not a good idea.

And even if you do find somewhere that will teach you this "fast and brutal" style... you'll have to do a LOT of training before you even pick up a real sword.

Garfield_ you have been 100%

OWNED

You could link most of these threads to something.

CQC - Metal Gear Solid 3

Katana - The Last Samurai

Whats with the aggression? He asked about sword arts. He wasn't asking to get flamed.

Martial Arts.... Self-Discipline. Hardly, you are disciplined in the dojo (Whatever you wanna call it), most likely, you probably won't be outside.

As for a sword art, you just want good reflexes and hand to eye coordation, then it should come naturally

Why not play with a pork sword?

Haha, I mean a willy. Owned.

No aggression, I'm laughing, Check out those threads, Garfield_ is a nightmare.

Garfield you should master the art of bukkake before you move onto sword play

I had a dream that was like a nightmare.

I was in a world where an asteroid had just hit it, and there was a tsunami. I, along with 2 other people, was what was left of the human race. I had to help a lake fight time. We got wooshed into another place and there were three levels of time, bronze, silver and gold. Time was in a mirror, and we had to fire rainbow discs into it's mouth. Bronze and silver were easy, but gold was really hard. The gold time grabbed my ball and I woke up. I was sleeping on my testicle. True story.

Wow, keep on hoping my friend, because you obviously have no idea what sword fighting is like.

In my karate dojo we did traditional samurai fighting with bokens for a month, fight last 10 seconds at most. Some swings are big, but you'll never have a lot of big swings, the idea is to kill your opponent not to get the sword as far away as possible from him by swinging it far and large.

know this guy who does fencing, which may be a bit different from the kind of sword fighting we're talking about here, but...
he said the point of fencing (and the fencing dagger, specifically) was just to do quick little things to basically poke people to death. you were supposed to hold it a certain way and use your fingers to pull the handle so it would swing down quick-like and hit'em. he demonstrated on me with a handy pvc pipe :(

You can get wooden Bokens (some sort of Japanese sword) for pretty cheap. Their light too.

garfield wtf.... i think you should stick to watching movies rather than severely injuring yourself with a sword thinking you know what you're doing...

Yep now i know that, but if you've only saw sword fights in movies, what are you supposed to think of it in the real life then ?
Ive just seen it in hollywood movies so of course i thought it was somewhat the same in real but it really isnt.

So i should just be home for myself and watch movies and dream of being the coolest guy in the movie for the rest of my life ?
My life would be rather interesting then, all i know is to watch movies :D

Thank god! Now you understand, i'd hope you think these things through in the futures rather than rushing here and making yourself look silly. A helluva lot of people told you how difficult things like that are to do with Katanas in the other thread? Have you forgotten already? Go back and find the link i provided.

If your basing your life and hobbies around films, then there something wrong.
