System power supply

yes we know exactly what one you already have.

How old r u?

It wouldn't hurt, but theres no point unless its broken or if you updating from P3 to P4.

If you're under 350 Watts of power and you want to run the newest video cards (5900 ultra) and high powered devices go for it. It's normaly not nessesary, you can get some good case/power supply deals.

depends on your current PSU; for high-end hardware, a good-quality PSU like PC Power and Cooling, Antec, or Enermax at 400 watts and above is ideal, it may also minimize stability problems with more power

ive gotta get a new one, my crappy dell (yes i bought a dell) only came with a 250watt power supply, so now ive got shell out more money to get a 400 watt. you are now free to flame me for buying a dell.

Dells arent that bad, i have one now. Im ditching it and building my own in a week or two.

yeah, well, if you're getting a 9700/9800 or 5900 (why the HELL would anybody buy a 5800?) you'll want at least 350 watts, i had to upgrade from my gateway power supply myself, 250 watts, bought an excellent Allied 400w for 30 bucks over on newegg, no trouble installing

ya i have a dell too and i replaced my 250watt for a 350 for my radeon 9500 pro but thing is with my gay dell case the psu hardly fits. I can hardly mount the psu i could only put one of 3 screws in

I just picked up an Alienware PC with a 420 watt supply. Good thing too, the thing is huge, glows green, and has 8 or 9 cooling fans. What with the size of the 5900 video card, i'm not at all supprised with how much power it eats. Makes for some good gaming though.

personally, i dont like alienware. i could build the exact same alienware system for probly $400 less. But the cases are cool, so thats the good thing about them.

lol doobz, just think about all the ppl who bought a 5800ultra, they must be pissed!

Yeah, i agree... they are pricy. I just didn't quite trust myself to build one, and the case does rock. Here's a pic (also posted under a case design thread) The tech support was another big factor in me getting the pc. Sorry, i guess this is all a little off topic.
