OMFG TALES OF SYMPHONIA IS A MANA TITLE!!@!@@!!#!1223213
Well, there's reference to the 'Tree of Mana' and the Mana goddess anyway.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Care to elaborate?

Mana games - games generally related to Secret of Mana by Square.
Final Fantasy Adventure (GB)
Secret of Mana (SNES)
Seiken Densetsu 3 (Or 'Secret of Mana 2', SNES)
Legend of Mana (PSX)
Sword of Mana (GBA)

They're all about reviving the Tree of Mana, the embodiment of a goddess who watches over the world. Each game begins with stories of the mana tree withering and a Chosen One who has to go lay some serious smack on evil and restore the Tree.
I bought Tales of Symphonia today, and hear Liquid Snake ( :p ) talking about a Tree of Mana and a Goddess and a Chosen One who has to restore the tree and bring peace to the world.

Sounds good enough to me!

Yeah I recognised the guy that played Liquid Snake, but I first thought of Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles as he did the voice for him as well. I had saw it about 2 hours before i played the game, otherwise I would have thought of Liquid Snake :p

I'm pretty sure that ToS is just part of the Tales series rather than being a part of the Mana series.

Just a coincidsnce - ToS has nothing to do with SoM :)

ToS is a damn good game, but not a patch on the genius that is SoM. Neither were Seiken Densetsu 3, Legend/Swaord of Mana for that matter :/

Secret of Mana was a one off.

Oh, I know it's a Tales game, I was just very appreciative of the reference. I thought it as more of an homage to SoM.
And Warbie, I know all about the Mana series. I own them all 'cept for SD3 :p Secret of Mana is (yes, I repeat this a lot) my favourite game ever .

Nice to know another Mana fan :)

SD3 isn't worth the cash tbh - a very average game ........ and the biggest disappointment I've had in video gaming (I expected so much :()

I am a great RPG fan.

I have never played secret of mana, but i will consider buying it.

is it for the PS1?

oh and one more thing:

GIVE ME INFO!!!! I WANT INFORMATION NOW!!!

SoM is on the snes - and it's 3 player (multitap required)

It's a shame you missed it when first released - at the time the gfx were superb. Fortunately the music and gameplay still is.

Secret of Mana is charming in every single way - and amazed me more than any game I played before and since. Best of all, it's an experience you can share with friends (something very rare in a role playing game - and the sole reason I prefer it to Chrono Trigger, FF6 & 7)

LAN parties and online can't compare with the sense of comradery multiplayer Mana provides.

Best.Game.Ever :) (but getting a bit old now :()

Check it out: http://www.planetnintendo.com/secretofmana/main.html (check out the soundtrack :))

It works ok on an emulator - but as with all emulators, not nearly as good as when played on the original platform/pad.

SECRET OF MANA PWNS YOU ALL.. But I have to say ToS is alot of fun so far, I also cought the reference to Secret of Mana, but was thinking Woohoo cannon Travel!!!

Just slide into the cannon!
*sizzle* *foom*

But yeah, SoM is the best game ever. And the only game ever to make me cry *tear*
That ending...just...so...sad...

I thought a lot of games reference a "Mana Tree." I thought it was some kind of tired plot device for Japanese RPGs, kinda like "Sci fi space marine saves earth from aliens/demons/bad guys" is to American FPS games.

Hmmm... I might use the emulator, but i would prefer to buy a SNES. How much would a SNES be? could i get one for a tenner?

I lurvvv Secret of mana
I didnt beat it cuz the game got deleted =(
My friend has tales of samfonia and he says its the ownage
im gonan buy a game cube one day...

You can get the machines for a decent price on ebay - finding Secret of Mana will prove harder. It often goes for 70 pounds plus (more when the box and booklet are in good condition)

Multitaps are harder to come by these days too.

(even so - get a snes, a copy of Super Mario Allstars, Zelda LTTP, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6 and Secret of Mana .......... and you'll be sorted for cool games for the best part of a year \o/ I've revisited all these games recently .... and they are still superb - and better than anything that's come out this year on any system)

Noob...HAHAHAHAHAHA
OMFG YOU'RE HILARIOUS
I own 11 systems - NES, SNES, JVC Genesis/SegaCD, N64, PSX, Dreamcast, PS2, Cube, Xbox, GBA and a PC - and have been gaming since 1989 (when I was four). I've owned in total 13 systems if you include the Atari 800XL and Atari ST. I can show you proof of owning these systems except for the DC and PS2 because they're in England and I'm not.
There is the little fact that I bought Secret of Mana when it was released. I've owned every Mana game except Seiken Densetsu 3 because I only emulated that as I can't afford to import and I can't read Kanji or Katakana.
And I've played through about half of Tales of Phantasia (and Destiny as a matter of fact).
If you'd READ the thread, you'd note that I said I found it as more of an 'homage' to SoM.
I've also finished Secret of Mana many times, the first me and my best friend played it from the point you meet the sprite child to the end together.
I still technically own Secret of Mana, as I gave my PAL copy to the same friend when I left for the US as it will not work on an NTSC television, and it's in perfect condition with the manual and map in the box. I doubt you would even know what the box art is without looking it up first.

Moron.

And no, my wang is probably not bigger than yours.

I "obtained" SOM (i'll make it up to nintendo by buying a few more gamecube games... i doubt i need to make it up to squaresoft seeing as i've bought tons of their games ;) ) and i just fought this monster bloke... And i kept dying and this "man" came and revived me... then i figured out (after my 5th death) that you can power up lol :D anyway i got banished from my village, but i nicked the elder's money so i'm happy :p

lol, the elder tells you that you can have it =P
Yeah, Jema is awesome - but you won't get his help like that again =P
