Ok years ago (before valve did this MAJOR update), valvesoftware.com said that they were working on a Team Fortress 2. And now i would like to find out what happened to it.
btw: i know this has nothing to do with the hl2 story. Sorry.

I was wondering the same exact thing. Like a year or so ago I remember someone posting their experience they had when they toured Valve Headquarters. They mentioned they saw someone doing a map for TF2. I really hope it's still in development, it's one of my favorite Half-Life mods of all time.

Getting official info on this would be nearly impossible, many have tried, all have failed.

Team Fortress 2 is currently diving in search of the Lost City of Atlantis, with his pals Duke Nukem Forever and Glenn Miller.

This was posted in the info from Valve thread a couple of months ago:

Fear not, TF news is coming. Sorry for the silence, but as you can see from all the stuff we're releasing these days, we've been busy on other things, all of which needed to be wrapped up first for various reasons.

Perhaps new vehicles/weapons will be introduced in Aftermath that will then end up in TF2. The Fortress Forever mod is also progessing, so maybe 2006 will bring some form of TF...

Will TF2 use Steam or be a stand-alone game?
All VALVe games ever released in the future will probably use Steam.

If TF2 is released then yes it will be like css and played within steam/Hl2. TF headz should point their noggins in the direction of Fortress-Forever though, as this is a much more likely release...

This would be my sig if the guy above hadn't already done that himself.

I never really liked Battlefield 2. Don't know why. But I love TeamFortress, so therefore it could NEVER be BF2

They are working on it, but they might have just seen AM and other projects as move worthy of the work.

I also think they'll recive Fortress Forever with open arms, as TF2 will be trying to produce a new style of gameplay, not re-create like FF is.

I kinda hope that Valve never actually tell us anything, until one day, we open Steam, and it says "Team Fortress 2 now available for pre-purchase and preloading" and then previews start popping up all over.

That'd be cool.

Some people would be pissed off about that though. Some people want to know it's coming and have some news on it.

TF's gameplay sucked hell, how could anyone make it better by just throwing in better grafics, it doesn't mean it could improve the gameplay. It's like trying to make a trashcan look more stylish.

I think the weapons weren't done very well for the first one. Improve that, and it would make the game better.

GO TEAM FORTRESS!

They aren't just improving the (already flawless) gameplay, they are completely changing it. So be quiet.

Weren't there screenshots ages ago?

Yep, they were the debut of the source engine, it was something like 2001, I forget when. I remember that birthday mode for TFC (it's 5th birthday) had the message "Team Fortress ][ coming soon!".

DIE.

And yes, they're completely remaking it. Rather, it'd be more accurate to say that they're making TF2 what they ORIGINALLY had in mind many years ago when they planned to release it alongside Half-Life. It was supposed to be a more realistic game, in terms of mechanics. Recoil, aiming impaired when moving, nobody flying through the air, etc. Then they scrapped that idea and went for a more Quakeworld TF-style, and called it Team Fortress Classic, with the intent to make TF2 its own separate game on a different engine.

Barney, you're misinformed. The screenshots from awhile ago WEREN'T the Source engine. They were from a completely different engine that Valve built, then subsequently scrapped. Team Fortress 2 has changed engines at least twice, probably closer to three times now.
