For all you Warhammer 40k lovers out there.. me and my mates are thinking about making a warhammer 40k mod for hl2 in our spare time, 'thinking about it', but we decided to slap some stuff together anyway , first on the agenda are the Tau. , we also have space marines orc's and arachnid's on the agenda. so 4 types, obviously it will be unofficial if it goes ahead but we love warhammer 40k so much.. so maybe just maybe.

but for the moment mostly drawings on paper using codex books and the plastic models as reference's. I hope their all commited , cross fingures.

gah, well, i guess it'll just have to be our own customised multiplayer characters then :p... :(

but it was just an idea :)

edit: looks cool, but their space marines look a bit ,, well. weird on the body scale size. hmmm me thinks of a completely tau orientated game. :cool:
 
ive already got one in the works,.. but after seeing that mod , there maybe no need for the space marines. plus we agree tau are the coolest, along with the Arachnid's... hmm intresting. :) 'pondering'

3Ds max, and been using it for 2 years or so, but im sticking with it if it ever comes to HL2 modding, XSI is good but I heard valve are also releasing an app to convert 3Ds models into source :) and if you want my personal opinion I think 3Ds is far more robust compared to XSI

Robust, but not as refined ;)

But I think you're gonna have a hard time rigging your character without XSI, the HL2 edition will have the full skeleton (with all the helper bones) of HL2 characters I thought(?).
And applying shaders to your characters will be a lot easier in XSI. So I think you can still model and texture in whatever program you like, but ultimately you'll have to convert it to .exp (or .xsi) .

i dont know for sure, but im sure if valve are providing an app for 3DS users, maybe it'll be a bit more difficult to rig.. but then again.. they started with 3Ds for the beginning of their HL2 project.. so they should beable to give us all the information on how to deal with the 3Ds to source conversions (will .exp and .xsi be the only final format that source can read? we havnt even got the SDK yet , anyone know if valve might be including any other file formats.? ).

I'm sure Valve releases conversion tools for other fileformats than .xsi or .exp (exp is the format the free EXP edition saves its files in) like .3ds

Great model... I'm obsessed with 40k as well. If you ever do get around to finishing those models, tell me and send me one!

(I play IG but I have a small amount of tau as well)
 
hehe me and my bro and some mates are gunna be makeing a 40k mod as well :p but its gunna be errr different... you will all just have to wait and see

Cool model, clarky. I like the Tau, they're like a breath of fresh air in the WH40K universe...

In a galaxy where everyone seems intent on killing everyone else, the Tau are the ones sitting cross-legged in the middle of the battlefield singing "Kumbya"*. Sort of. Makes a nice change, anyway.

*Okay, singing "Kumbya", while taking defensive potshots.

But hey Clarky, why make another Warhammer based mod? There are like 3 or 4 of them atm (BG40K, unknown name, Emperors Warriors (or something I think). And 2 sub mods (Gang War and a Gorkamorka mod (not sure if they will use HL2).
Also you got Rival Species for HL...

Yeah stick with your UKLiving mod rather than another warhammer mod
 
The model is very purty kudos. But I must object, Space marines clearly own everything. ;)
