Television = a mirror of Society?

frankly, I wouldn't want to have my six year old daughter seeing something like that. its just too young, the superbowl was on primetime. adults don't care much, but there should be certain boundaries on tv.

that and it was just such a stupid and pointless stunt. it looked so dumb.

You guys seriously think that this is a coverup (no pun intended) by the church in US? I'm not religious myself, but I hate when people start making these statements that makes it seem like religion is responsible for everything in America.

Basically, America follows a moral system that is in strict accordance with Catholicism (which makes pretty much everything a sin).

Come on, qckbeam, I didn't think you would ever post something this silly. Catholics make up only 28% of the population (as opposed to 55% protestant). And there was just one, yes ONE, US president who was Catholic. Hopefully you know who he was.

The event of a breast being shown on television, is just like a nose, a toenail, or an eyeball being shown. It is a body part. It seems like they are sensoring humans - eg. OMFGz0rz that guy doesnt have sleeves on his tee-shirt, lets sue him and woop his ass, that evil person.

sorry mate, you misunderstood me, I'm sorry, reading back it wasn't very clear :(

I just meant that our laws, and societal points of view, seem to be in accordance with Catholicism to a pretty high degree. I didn't mean the church was involved in some kind of conspiracy to control the laws of the US or something insane like that :p. I'm just pointing out how similar our laws and views are to Catholicism, I just think it's a coincidence, nothing planned our plotted. Simply an observation, although my post was really not clear about that, sorry. :(
I hope this is clear, it may not be though. If it isn't I'm sorry, I'll try to explain it better. I'm not trying to blame anything on organizied religion.

Ok, I see what you're getting at. I think you want to say that out laws are based on Christianity, which is of course true.

They are not however Catholic, in fact they are more Protestant (as in protesting against the Catholic church). Heck, if we followed Catholic laws we wouldn't have such things as divorce. :)

So I'm not trying to put you down, just wanted to point out that the situation is quite the opposite.

I agree with you there on the laws being more protestant, good point :)

I understand, I just hope I didn't loose any respect from posting that the way I did. I didn't mean for it to sound that way, didn't mean to sound so ignorant :(

Its taboo because its covered for a reason.
The reason it's covered is because of temptation, respect, morals and just because men would lust of that. ;)
Some would say it would be abuse by corupt minds.
Men go shirtless is ok because ours is nothing tempting for women and it doesnt cover all what I listed before basicly.
Why they are called privates and mens nipples aren't.

It is usually understood when you grow-up because you mature.
Usually... ;)

your logic is backwards...it's the covering that causes temptation, not the temptation causing the covering.

and it's more like 60+% protestant in the US as far as i know....check out www.adherents.com for a lot of religious stats.

and according to a University of Michigan study, 44% of americans attend church once a week, whereas european countries are far lower...the UK being 27%

also, over 50% of americans consider their religion to be very important in their lives...whereas british, french, and german percentages are in the mid-teens.

even if this study isn't completely accurate, the percentage differences are so huge that you can't deny that americans, and american society and values, are shaped by their religion, which is almost completely christian.

Is that true? Wow 44%, I never knew it was that high. I would have expected maybe the French percentage to be that high, but never the Americans :)

lets look at this from a different angle. Would all you people talking about how the jackson boob thing doesn't matter still not care if Justin Timberlake whipped his penis out in the middle of the show? honestly now...

If JT whipped out his Mr.Badger, that would be a totally different situation.

Haven't you noticed that "penis" can be substituted with any word? like "my docking clamp is numb" or "my american idol is sweaty"

Yeah...but Mr.Badger? He'll be pissed at that one :E

Well, at least when I live (you should've noticed where by now if you've read my past gibberish or checked my postcount) there's not much nudity in commercials or TV , the newspapers have the occasional nipple sometimes and if there's a documentary or something on a specific channel they have trailers for it.. And of course the erotic stuff at 12 at night..

Other than that, not much nudity is shown in media where I live.
