mIRC continues to degrade into nothing, but a hot bed for 14 yr. olds d/ling warez. Not only this, but they continue to blab about spoilers, in Non-Warez channels, and here. They're ruining the story for me. I've left IRC, but that's not enough. I've seen at least 5 threads on here with info from the pre-release. The ILLEGAL Pre-Release that these punk-kids refuse to keep their hands off of. Now I know how Hl2 starts, some dev. points, and some large plot points. The only reason I know this is true is due to the fact that, upon refusing what they said, they gladly uploaded sounds bits for me. I should've kept my mouth shut I guess. But it shouldn't be this way, I shouldn't have to say "Nuh-uh, there's no way." This is the closest thing to safely chatting about Hl2, you post links you get banned. You post spoilers, you get flamed. Even though you shouldn't be doing either in the first place. Ya know, even though this doesn't hurt me, it still makes me angry. It's something I wanted to play after a day of work, something I've been waiting on, and now it's spoiled. Why should it matter about the little fire-fights when you know every BAM! in the game. Stupid jerks, stupid sound bits, stupid people. Shut your mouths! I'm sure a lot of people will say it's my fault, that I should leave, if I don't want to hear it. But I shouldn't have to. There shouldn't be a "If you don't want to hear it, leave." It should be a "This is an honest forum, that doesn't support the Illegal Beta, leave now." What you're doing is wrong, whether you buy the final product, or not. You're supporting the hackers actions, actions against VALVe, and against Hl2. If this game gets delayed, you're part of it, because you've helped it spread. As for what you continually posting about it, I really appreciate it, no really, Thanks a lot.

I searched for every screenshot I could find but I never did not looked for story plot info. So far the only spoiler that bothered me was some info that was actually previously released that I had missed. That the Ant Lions fly...

Now the only things I need right now are:

A) The HL2 benchmarking utility.
B) The Gold-Beta release.
C) The HL2 Retail Gold release. (Released hopefully when PCIexpress cards and mobos are available)

In that order...

I actually think that the leaked material wetted my appetite, renewed my patience, and reassured me that I'm buying the game when it hits shelves. I think the leaked material was fairly benign from a spoiler standpoint. Thats not to say it wasn't bad or damaging though.

That's pretty obvious, really. One of the official shots has an Ant Lion in the background that looks like it just landed, and in several other official shots you can see that their carapace is composed of a set of wing covers, which are partially open on some shots.

Well, considering there isn't any news from valve, and the game is delayed 6 months there isn't anything about hl2 to discuss except the leak. If you don't want to read anything that will spoil the game for you, you might consider not browsing ANY hl2 forums for a while.

Hi, does anybody who has played the beta know if it contains big spoilers? I don't want to know anything, a simple yes or no will be fine. It's mainly that i'm afraid to move in any HL2 forums or IRC channels (except this one) incase I come accross a spoiler that will ruin the game. I may play the beta (no flames please) but if I do i'm going to follow the advice of others and mainly play maps with no plot, or turn the sound off when anybody talks.

Well couldnt you keep this to yourself? It seems the biggest problem is people using this unfortunate turn of events to complain about stuff they should of ignored in the first place.

Im not telling/saying/asking you to leave but just say no. You cant "complain" about something you asked for. No one forces you to read every thread. Ive seen a few in other places and get to a point in reading and say...whoa...and stop reading. Self control......

If you get a lamp next to your computer turn the light on, each time you find yourself reading a spoiler or tempted to DL the file put your hand on the hot bulb. You will be cured in no time. Thats how I got my wife to quit smoking...

hmmm You are just setting yourself up for failure. WTF? oo I want to play the "demo" but I do not want any spoilers. If someone says no and you find a spoiler you will be upset, if they say yes and you do not play it you will be upset. Sounds like the whole release the game thing damned if you do damned if ya dont.

Good point I suppose. Maybe I ought to give the beta a miss. I wanted to know if there were any MAJOR spoilers in the beta because if there are I may have to give some unscrupulous forums and IRC channels a miss because of all the stuff that can appear on them without warning.

I never d/led the damn game! It's other people that did, and now they're ruining it for me. Read the post right, next time. I was talking about people saying things and sending me the sound bites. I would never d/l this game. I've stood against the spread this beta firmly.
I agree with what you say totally, but I'm not the bad guy here, and I don't deserve to have this game ruined for me. Just because I didn't believe them, doesn't mean it's my fault they spoiled. That's what I meant by keeping my mouth shut. A lot of what you say is true about the post, but some just blurt it out. Without warning, if you want to make a spiler thread, or post, go ahead. I'm down with that, but give us warning.

It appears the way you wrote your initial post that you asked fo rinfo regarding the game, recieved what you asked for and got upset after you realized it would ruin the game for you. I also never said you DL the game. READ MY POST. "tempted to DL the file " People are going to do what they are going to do. I am stating:

1. If you ask for it and get it dont complain about it. (which from all appearances is what happened at first)
2. If you think there is a spoiler ahead stop reading.

As I SLOWLY read your first thread, you "challenged" the validaty of a "spoiler" and recieved the proof via a file.

It's unfortunate, but as the 'beta' was released you have to expect talk about it if you go to any sites/forums concerning HL2.

I suppose unless you just don't go to the sites at all then it's hard to expect you won't come across anything that may spoil the finished game for you.

So far everything I have read and seen doesn't really spoil anything because the 'beta' is nothing like what the finished game will be and they are only talking about what they have seen from that so it isn't all bad.

Well I'm not worried about spoilers being in the demo. I'll definatley dl the official demo just to see how my system handles it...

This waiting is getting old... I wish we had a demo we could play to hold us off untill Valve has time to finish the final release.

Maybe Valve is so quiet because they are trying to put a demo together to compete against the leaked alpha...

i think 2 maps with no story elements, the zero gravity gun, a few unsuspecting combine and a body of water would be adequate for a demo

I doubt they'll do it though. That would also encourage hackers..

I like your description of what you'd like to see in a beta. Thats what I want...

I think the hackers already have enough to encourage them. I think a demo would just encourage honest fans of HL2 and Valve.

I wouldn't have thought a public demo would happen, especially if they have lots of coding to do because of what has happened - although Steam is separate from HL2, so they could just leave that down and release the game when the Single Player is finished.

I think that's more likely what they would do.

yes, there are new enemies, and and entire section of the game that explains a bunch of things u might want to save for the full version.

on a side note, Eli's voice is REALLY annoying...

edit: oh, and for people who just want a "demo" but not spoilers, u can always get the beta and only play the e3_techdemo 2 map, which is just the one with the pool of water, no spoilers.

Fair enough, at least in that aspect. The other thing is about them randomly posting spoilers. THAT needs to change. That's why I don't hang out in those IRC channels anymore, because I don't want to know. Like I said, I should have kept my mouth shut. However, the forum is different, and I only ask that people give us a warning at the top of the thred/post. I don't think I should be told to leave the forums, when I'm not the problem. This isn't , just, about me. It's about the honest community that's waiting. I just thought I'd throw in the IRC occurance, as a warning to others. Hopefully people won't learn what I have.

And, no, I didn't ask for info. But I did ask for validation. So, I admit, in the end, the IRC incident was my fault. But this wouldn't have happened, had there had never been a break in of VALVe's network.
Hopefully we'll be looking back at this as nothing, real soon.

I tend to stay away from any sites or chatrooms that discuss hl2. This is the only forum I come to for hl2 coverage, mainly for that reason. I do not want to see/hear anything about the leak, I actuallly am one of the few people who want to "wait" for the finished product and be suprised instead of going thru the game saying to myself "I wish I had waited to see this." Then again I cant help but guess I am alot more mature than alot of kids who have nothing better to do, and then again, I'm 29 :O Regardless of when it comes out, I will play max payne 2 and call of duty until that time along with some natural selection.

Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to know. I don't really care about seeing the new enemies, it doesn't really matter to me whether i've seen them before or not. I will definately try and avoid the section that explains things though. Thanks for the tip about the tech demo too, definately the first level i'll play. :cheers:

I think the part most interesting gameplay wise was the interactivity with NPCs--a very simple and effective interface thats a perfect evolution of HL1 NPC interactivity. Anyone who's played it knows what I mean, but it would probably be a spoiler for some if I posted it.
