What, on the hl2 videos (Not includeing the leak if you have it) gave you that "OMFG" feeling, e.g made you go "wow"

Mine had to been on the E3 video of the buggy, once he was out of it and shot down the gunship and it smashed down into the cars that flew back realisticly made me go OMFG

when in barracade, he throws the grenade at the combine standing up ahead and it goes flying up into the air and smashes onto the car before hitting the ground. The first actual ragdoll effect they showed. Made me drop my jaw.

That was mine too...

Mine was when you first see the Strider that was unlike anything i've seen in games so far it moves so realistically I can bet that it's gonna be a bugger to kill.

And the other one was when you see the characters they have to be the most lifelike ones I have ever seen

Well.
Easy one for me...
Everything in the Traptown movie.. :cheese:

And when G-Man is talking..

The DX9 techdemo one with all the reflection made me hella impressed.

Heh...me too. Once I get to do somthing like that in the game Im just gonna save and do it over and over for an hour.

The all traptown and the barricade movie when gordon fill a guy with bullets and he fall in a great height, i turned in a yellow smile when i saw that !

ooh, yeah! wait.. that was just a dream...
:cheese:

The Trap town and the barricade movies. Awesome.

Oh and the gravity manipulator weapon - seriously CANT wait to get that ingame and see what i can do. heh heh

and a bit off topic, the Stalker oblivion lost movies (all of them)

And i forgot: the stationary placed machine guns. i know these are old hat from HL1..... but i just love those things. They remind me of my best movie of all time - Aliens

traptown when he kicks the door open, and also the pistol shooting the wood in the techdemo

The bump maps in......pretty much every demo and the ragdoll effect cause it looks so real when the guy flies over and lands on top of the car I especially love the barricade demo cause that was the first one i saw and it was awesome...also traptown, no need to explain that.

another question, where can i get the techdemo?

Personaly my jaw dropped when I heard HL2 was in the making. It has yet to raise back to normal position. It stayed dropped when I heard the game was 5 years in the making. It stayed when I seen the videos, when I read the articles, when it was delayed, when source was stolen, and on and on. It's just started to get back to normal due to all this silence from Valve. Thank goodness, because it was beginning to hurt!

Some interesting ones that caught my attention more than the others was how realisticly simulated a matress was, the pachinco machine, and how the wood nailed against the window in traptown moved around as it was shot by stray bullets.

I would have to agree that for me it was the whole dune buggy/flying airship shooting the car part.

I must say the one of the other things that got me was that matress, not only like you said it was realticly, but how the water and then the box realticly "tied" with it, try that on something like MP2 (uses a simpe verson of havoc) and it would 90% wig out and not work

So can anybody remember what the first image from HL2 was then, and where you saw it?

I think the first image I saw from HL2 was the Strider pic, un-strangely enough, it was on a war of the worlds site

Isn't there anyone on the air? Isn't there anyone? :D

First screenie I saw was in the jail some soldiers were shooting up some ant lions. That was the first game screenie ever that I thought 'nah that's not ingame' and it turned out it was.

(that was of course before I saw Stalker!)

:afro:

I saw the whole movie (e3) at ECTS in London, and I can safely say that on the big screen, all of it was OMFG. The buggy chase and Strider sections were my personal faves though.

The major omfg factor for me was the water, it just looks so incredible even better than alot of prerendered water in animations. Definately my favourite part graphically about hl2 :)

i think the first image was a withe page written half life with a crowbar with an unregular shadow that made it look like a "2"

the best part in the movie were when the rotor kills the zombies (and one begins crawling without his legs) and THE best part was barney saying: remember when we tought black mesa was a bad as it could get?

so much memories...

ha, ha...so many memories and you haven't played the game yet (well, unless you're a little punk with the beta)

The absolute first hint that i saw, that pic with the crowbar as a 2, Then i knew... it had to be hl2. Just had to.

The two things I couldn'T stop watching and drooling was when he was throwing stuff at the Strider like that furniture that breaks up (with the manipulator gun) and All the actions with the cars realistic behaviors to shots and explosions (End of buggy scene and the explosions in Strider movie and Traptown...):bounce:

All the video's as a collective made me go "WTFOMGSWEETLEETCHEESE!?!"

I guess im easily impressed but when he started shooting the wood in the tech demo and it started falling apart it looked like real life. then the rest of the movie i had my jaw dropped.

Yah, I felt a little trickle of urine leaking down my leg when he started he started shooting the wood and throwing all that crap in the water in the techdemo. I proceded to thoroughly wet myself through the rest of the demo. (I have a weak blatter)

my first glimpse of HL2 made me moist..
the Gman transition
you know..
"its been 5 years" (old gman shown)
(some guy says: "he looks like hell")
new GMAN appears (oh wow) ;)
yeah his expressions, texture, realistic facial structure (muscles), eyes etc etc
blew me away.
we had seen "excellent models" before in games like Doom3, and Farcry... however this was emotional models, it made me say "wow Gaming is entering the next generation of interactivity and realism"

I honestly was taken aback at how realistic the characters were.. I instantly loved the GMAN, a character I had never given a second thought about.. I now wanted to know his story, I wanted to see what part he played and how he acted his role out.

the water amazed me, and the physics blew me away... but its those "emotionally expressive characters" that gave me that "omfg" feeling, it was the summirization of all the ideas we have of reaching that ever more realistic gaming experience.

I mean if you look at those models, and look at any other models in games released or not.. nothing comes close to their realism. I mean its quite astonishing, how Im playing through all my old games and looking at the textures and models etc, I mean every game (everything from AvP2, Undying, RTCW, Quake3, to Ut2k3 and BF1942) everything I thought looked cool and realistic... is "cartoony".. the skins that I once thought were so realistic and cool... like Patrick Galloway in Undying.. look so, out of place.

its heightened expectations....
but err.. yeah
Love that Gman, I can honestly say the characters will make the game.

I think the #1 thing I truly got the "OMG" excitement over was seeing those first images of the crowbar and the speculation of HL2 coming out.

As for the videos, it has to be G-man talking for me. The expressions and the eyes and also DX9 techdemo ...

The first part, the one where they start off with the Half-Life g_man, and then it gets blurry, and all of a sudden you see the new g_man's face, when he goes "We've been rather busy in your abscence, Mr Freeman".

I got goosebumps and the shivers and the fner and went OMFG and dropped my jaw and hooted all at the same time.

Guys... ALL THE MOVIES TOGHETER BLEW ME STRAIGHT AWAY!

To quote my (not so amazingly updated of comp news nowadays" brother , "Why waste money on cheap-ass action movies when you can play this game?"

The first thing taht blew me away other than th g-man, is watching the barrles fall down and hit the logs. They interacted PERFECT. Then we see how bodies and other things interact with complex surfaces. I loved it....and..oh man...the water. I couldnt believe it! Then I moistened myself further by actually seeing the game :D I aslo loved the part when he blew the combine with the grenade in the traptown vid. God I cant wait for this game
