The armor of tomorrow!

Hahahha the US army: progressing so fast we're going backwards.

US! Australia, Britain, commies <.<

This is only the beginning. the true armor of the future will be even more resilient, have artificial muscles to increase strength, optical camouflage built in air purifiers for chemical warfer etc.

And then we can design even more powerful guns to rip apart the armour on a molecular level!

Why can't we just drop the guns and hug?

Then use the guns to have fun and shoot random shit =]

Like babies!

A soldier's life isn't worth 30 grand, this'll only be used by base jumpers :(

Batman ends...
But yeah, i bet it will be expensive. But in the future... When all wars are over and the world is run by a fachist regim, then they could come in handy.

For instance, mixing IF with highly elastic materials can lead to new compounds which are both flexible and shock-absorbing. These properties position IF materials as one of the best candidates for future protective gear and armor.

Don't think the Israelis be wearing a suit of armor to war anytime soon. Even though that would be really freaking awsome They could just walk up to the guys with guns beat them in the face with their futuristic weapons technology

Hhmmmm, maybe in the future I can really go into battle, striking fear in the hearts of my enemies, whilst I wear my full daedric body armor

this is what future soldiers will look like....

pfft ..all these stories about what the soldier of tommorrow will wear is just speculative nonsense. In reality they're never cool looking, they're functional, that's it:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/mai...09.xml&sSheet=/news/2006/05/09/ixnewsnew.html

my guess is that a lot of these fictional uber-soldiers suits of armor are more for PR than for practical use ..easier to recruit people if they think they'll get to wear cutting edge equipment that looks like it stepped out of City 17 ...but the reality isnt even remotely similiar

infantry have always been dispensible ..I predict the future will do little to change that

I heard they were looking to replace their current generation of tanks with this too.

^ tanks don't get toppled over by an RPG.

It wouldn't topple over. It would explode into the millions of peices of aluminum foil it's made out of.

The reflecting sunlight would confuse the poor RPG which would turn 180° and destroy its palestine launcher.

War has changed...

ID-tagged soldiers carry ID-tagged weapons, use ID-tagged gear.

Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their actions.

War has changed...

Leaders should just battle in virtual battlefields.
Settle their differences over the net instead of using soldiers lives.
The leaders get to please their urge for war and we get an awesome form of tactical entertainment!

Good way to quote the teaser trailer for MGS4 lol

Dang I thought they were going to come up with something like Halo armor.
Btw infantry is not as much needed. We just shoot missiles from far away.

That picture on the front page said it was of mideval armor - I don't think that was a model of their material. The bottom line is that the specifications they mention in the article are pretty tough. 250 tons/cm²?! What do rifle bullets average, 1km/sec²? Not invincible by a long stretch, but a pretty good feat of materials engineering if you ask me.

Typical total gear for one soldier runs up to a HELL of a lot more than $30,000.
