The Benchmark Topic

Even with this, time was still a huge limiting factor, despite the fact that we were running up to four test systems simultaneously. The flat panel displays that were used on the test systems didn’t support 1600x1200, so 1280x1024 was the maximum resolution we could test with. The RADEON 9800 PRO and GeForce FX 5900 Ultra were running in Dell XPS rigs equipped with Intel’s 800MHz FSB 2.8GHz Pentium 4, and 1GB of DDR SDRAM. The RADEON 9600 PRO, GeForce FX 5600 Ultra (which was donated by Lars for testing) and GeForce FX 5600 were also running on 2.8GHz systems, but we’re not certain if the FSB was 800MHz or 533MHz. The ATI systems were using CATALYST 3.7, while the GeForce FX cards utilized Detonator 45.23.

firingsquad only mentions the one. where is the "other site" claiming it?

I don't remember, sorry, I could go through all the sites again and dig out the link for you, but wouldn't that be pointless? The point is that they were allowed to bring their own cards for testing and one or more sites did so. You said they were allowed to use only Valve's hardware for testing and that's what I was correcting.

they were going to send me a free t-shirt, and so I was happy with them again, then they said "no t-shirts left" and I was mad again, then they said "want an offical hl2 poster" and I was like yea that should hold me off, so long story short mr UPS should have it here in god knows when, probably december.

Bloody hell. They could at least say that it TOO has been delayed. THis is arrogance on their behalf, for every stupid modding question they answer (It's a design decision) why the heck can't they just say hey guys, benchmark is a no show, it will arrive with HL2 when it stores sometime in the next 30 years!

Seriously, they spend all day answering email but they wont tell us a freakin thing about what is going on. It’s like that guy in high school who WOULD NOT answers questions, he would just sit their and either stay silent or say something nonsensical. He just did it cuz he knew it was annoying. Goddamnit.

Hahaha, that's the funniest AND truest (Is that a word? It is now!) thing I've heard all night! :)

No Leak, No Benchmark No Nothing Gabe Newell is the fastest developer ever :)

Benchmark in Sept. 30. - another lie from Gabe Newel.

Can we belive anymore him?

I wish that valve had a more profesional attitude about release dates.
I feel they´re just hiding away. :(

i don't get it....

they have a real blockbuster game at hands and state septemer 30. as release day. then they say a few days before d-day that it doesn't make it. no comment why or when it's now going to be released.

now you got literaly a million people pisst off.

okay. i thought that they would release at least the benchmark as a little something to soothe the crowd on the promised day.

this time they didn't even bother to say that it's not going to come. im fairly sure that i am not the only one who was awaiting the benchmark with great anticipation (refreshing varius hl sites every 2 minutes).

so now it's clear. no HL2. no benachmark. no comment. no nothing.

i'm really not certain what the decisions are behind this behavior. don'T they see that they are angrying many many people? or are they so high nosed to say "ha. i can do anything and and those nerfs buy it anyway.".

most companies do everything to get on the good site of their customers, but with valves releaseday strategie they have made themselfs many at least dissapointed fans.

i think most of us would have said "ah, i'm sorry but its okay" when valve had said somethink about the delayed release. something like "sorry folks. it's not gonna make it on sept. 30 because of blahblahblah and xyz. but we're thinking the problems should be solved on blahblah. sorry for the inconviniences".

okay. just wanted to say my oppinion about this matter....

Yeah you are sooo right.

When they didnt make it to the release date they really should have told us why they didnt. Give us some information ffs! Shame on u Valve !! :flame:

did valve actually say that the benchmark would be out on sept 30th? i always got the impression that they said it would be out when halflife2 comes out, so it isnt late at all, unless of course they specifically said 30th

At the ATI shaders day they had "Benchmark Release the 30th" on a big white board, and also in subsequent interviews I believe they mentioned it coming out on the 30th... But it's the 1st now, so yet another thing to illustrate the fact that valvE's word isn't worth the virtual paper it's written on. In fact, I'd hardly be surprised if they had lied about the entire HL2 thing in the first place. Hardly :p.

I don't think they will be releasing the benchmark before the new Nvidia drivers are out.

Doing so could seriously effect the sales of the game once it's released.

Nvidia users could be put off buying the full game based on the benchmark performance and not realise now much performance could be improved with new drivers.

Just my thoughts..
