Yeah, but not without entirely good reason. Although I'm sure there are people out there who dislike him because they feel they ought to, he is still an extremely questionable politician, if nothing else.

Indeed - but I've political discussions along the lines of:

Person1: "The war in Iraq was wrong"
Moi: "Oh, why do you believe that?"
Person1: "Cos Bush is stupid"

I've got no objections to valid points on any subject (i.e. you think the war was illegal due to lack of WMDS) - but I do object to what is essentially pop-politics

One thing the tapes do make clear is how calculated and micro-managed his public image is, belying the "he's just an average joe" thing. And anyone who could be involved in spreading rumors that McCain's adopted children are illegitimate is playing more than "a little rough."

I wonder how the radical right will like hearing that he doesn't like anti-gay stuff very much, given how little effort he's put into trying to stop gay marriage (heck, CLINTON did more against it!) or advance faith-based programs (which have basically collapsed from mismanagement and neglect).
