I'd just like to point something out to some people...
The line between Capitalism and Socialism... isn't really a line at all. It's a scale. Something is not either-or. It can be in between.
So the next time somebody you say something like "Omigod that's totally Socialism!" please vigorously slap yourself and maybe you'll knock out some of the stupid.
Example: The proposed health-care plan is NOT socialism. It may be an inch closer to socialism on the scale, but it is no more "OMIGOD ITS SOCIALISM" the then first regulations on robber barons that stopped small children from being mauled by a printing press (or whatever).
The same goes the other way. If someone proposes de-regulating something or getting rid of a few welfare benefits or taxes, please do not scream "AH CAPITALIST PIG!" It may be a bit closer to Capitalism on the scale, but it is no more Laissez-Faire than the first free McDonald's opened in Russia.
Get it? It's a freakin' scale. One specific thing is not and cannot be "OMIGOD SOCIALISM!"
If you insist on using these words these ways, at least have the common sense to follow with a clarification that you are not, in fact, a moron.
/poorly worded rant
