The Elder Scrolls V; AKA How to make up for Oblivion

Anyway, Saturos, I doubt we will see devs hitting a graphical ceiling yet, and focusing on original ideas and concepts..

Most original ideas and concepts these days are found in either shareware or freeware games by indie developers, mostly because publishers are too afraid of trying drastic new concepts.

I believe the thing that would most likely see a shitload of new innovative people rush into the commercial gaming industry would be a new video game crash like the one that occured in '83.
Agreed. That just may happen again though. Then most of us can finally get on withour lives for a few years at least and come back to gaming when it's not so bloated. BTW: I though the crash happened in '81? :)

I want another one to come and wipe off most companies.

And hopefully, Bethesda will get axed in the process.

I honestly don't think there will be another crash. The only way there will be another video game crash is if only shit games come out for a few years. Because that is exactly what caused the crash before - a massive flow of shitty games that weren't as good as teh arcades - well that, and Home computers becoming much more affordable. I mean that there were no good games coming out anymore. zero. Also, licensing fees, and a required quality and integrity check for all games fixed the problem. (thanks nintendo!) Because before Nintendo, game manufactures could get away with a game that didn't even work and release it under a sub company name. They were ripping people off.

As long as there are Major titles coming out, people will buy them. More good games came out this year than ever before, and more good games are due out next year like Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto 4, just two name a couple.

The video game industry has surpassed MUSIC in profits. It has surpassed MOVIE profits. OK? Need I say more? DId I mention that it is bigger business than MUSIC? .. and MOVIES?

VirusType, I disagree with you, more good games didn't come out this year than ever before..

But in the end its a matter of personal preferences..

Besides, there were good games coming out during the video game crash of '83.

The reason the crash occured was because there was a ton of mediocre titles being pumped out into the market, which people didn't buy because they sucked.

I still hope for another video game crash, it'd allow some much needed new and innovative companies to get in and play with the big boys.

Heck these days like 75% of my gaming time on my computer is done playing games from the early 90s..

Also, you can't be sure RE5 and GTA4 will be good until they're actually out.

When it comes to the best gaming years, you can't really go wrong with the early to mid 90s..

Ultima 7, Elder Scrolls Daggerfall, X-Com, a shitload of great flight sims that sold very well, Sid Meier's Pirates, and more :p

Why haven't you played Dungeon Master and Archon or their sequels? Try Archon and BallBlazer, but I think those were late 80's.

I've got Dungeon Master 2 and works with DosBox on XP. FTL went under, so the game is freeware now.

I've played Dungeon Master, both 1 and 2, what kinda self-respecting CRPG gamer haven't played those classics?

And we also have games like Rogue, NetHack, etc.

I hope they don't make the graphics so...'barbie' style as they have been called before, and I really hope they add some of the much missed features from Morrowind, also please make the beast races look like they are supposed to, not imperials with a different head :\

Vectyr,

1. Won't happen.
2. Won't happen.
3. Won't happen.

Bethesda could care less about making the ES games more complex, if anything they will probably simplify the ES RPGs to the point where you have to click one button to do everything.

"Click 1 to talk to bum."

"Hi bum!"

"Click 1 to slap bum."

"*Slaps bum*"

Honestly, they simplified ES so much, all I want is a Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall with modern technology, it was the most lore-accurate and most complex of the ES games.. Yes, it was even more complex than Morrowind when it came to skills.

lol.

It was so funny what someone said, "just put 'End Game Now' feature on title menu."

Bwaahahahah that is ****ing funny.

Does no one remember that the majority of Daggerfall was extreme suck?

OH YEAH RANDOMLY GENERATED MAPS

Yeah, totally.

Actually, only some stuff were randomly generated, not the entire universe.

Yes, the randomly generated dungeons could be annoying, but this was easily solved by using a teleport spell at the entrance incase you got lost.

The majority of Daggerfall wasn't extreme suck, sure it had its flaws, but no more than other games.

The only problem was that it was incredibly buggy at release.

If there is one damn thing I want for ES V its that it stays with the dark middle ages style,(yeah I only played Oblivion) because every time I see a screenshot of WOW I just want to scream "Oh god its so tacky." Now for my other nitpicks; in keeping with the previous complaint, I want the cramped city spaces of the middle ages, because combat would be so much better if I couldn't just move to the left and run away from whoever I'm fighting. This mystic Morrowind AI would be awesome, but to me doesn't even sound physically possible. Uniting all the lands of Tamriel would be awesome but I really say It should be saved for the last ES or at least the generation after the next generation of next-gen consoles. What I want second most is a backstory to my character, just to give my character in Oblivion one I conceived that he was from Kvatch and all records of his existence burnt when the daedra invaded and had one hell of a case of amnesia. Lastly more voice actors (I want the Colin in the Anvil castle to be Irish) and region specific names. (Bravil had a fellow with a french last name. And then you have Lucien Lachance from Cheydinhal?)

The next Elder Scrolls is going to be an MMO, rumours say.

The last names are upbringing based. A lot of people in the Imperial Provence had Imperial names because they come from a long time of Imperial decent, via birth right or settlement.

Also, the "medieval" feel was a poor shot at best. While I love medieval history, the word was as believable as palm reading. Most of the population mass in the middle ages was decentralized. You can't make a living in a city if theres nothing for you to do.

I think they should just make it more epic. At the end of Oblivion, I went around and closed all the gates outside the towns, expecting a battle at the end. I'm looking around for this huge 10000 SPARTANS army, and there's like 20 guys, waving their hankies at the oblivion creatures. Come the **** on.

Also, the dungeons should be huge, massive, gaping holes in the earth that appear to have no bottom, you may only cross on a small, rickety rope bridge.

The only other thing I wish for is the removal of character levels, skill levels are fine, but I don't give a shit about being level 200, it doesn't make a difference, other than getting some bigger retard enemy waking you up.

A Steam-like system which automatically updates the game. So like, in a 0.0001 patch update, 7 quests would be added, but wouldn't tell you that it has. Also if people made quests and dungeons etc, it would be uploaded to a database and free to download.

I'd rather there was less speech in the game then to use their little trick of reusing voices.

^^^ With the thousands of NPC characters in Oblivion, do you have any comprehension into what it takes to make each random NPC (not the important ones) have their own individual voice actor play the part?

I thought Oblivion and Shivering Isles were excellent games. I've played through both about 4 times now and have always been impressed. It has an excellent blend of beautiful graphics along with not only the semi lackluster main quest.... but with the hundreds of side quests you're constantly coming across.... I'd say it was one of the best RPG's in recent times.

What makes the game even better if you download and install TOTO (Total Oblivion Texture Overhaul) which gives spectacular increases in the details of every aspect of the game from environments, to enemies, to clouds/weather/and nighttime skies. And the increased detail really helped bring the game to life, even though i still love the non-modded version as well.

Btw....from some inside sources, the next elder scrolls will be taking place on Summerset Isle. Bethseda has already secured a few URLs to solidify their commitment in this arena.

There is no doubt in my mind that TES 5 will be even more commercialized and dumbed down, probably an MMORPG with 3 stats strength, int and stealth. The story will consist of a skooma dealer gang war in cyrodill complete with revealing clothing and rap music.

BTW....from some inside sources, people who say "from some inside sources" are attention seeking dipshits.
