Beautifully Random!!!

cool. i hope i die first....

dont know whether that was sarcasm or not tbh!!

what can i say? shit happens.

one minute you're sat at home on HL2, the next you're being swept away by a huricane annihiliating you're town.... meh.

There has been extensive flooding around the U.K very heavy and in one place it hasnt been so bad for 30 years.

actually, the world ended in the early forties when hitler slaughtered 11 million in concentration and death camps and over another 100 million died directly or indirectly from the war.

and don't forget, George Bush is still the President.

actually the tsunami was caused by an earthquake which sooner or later was going to happen because of the position of the tectonic plates, the others are apparently caused because of human pollution and ennui, i dont quite get what you mean

You know whats funny? There are always a ton of freak things going on at once, and there always has been a ton of freak things going on at once. If you find me a day where not 1 freak thing happens THEN I may believe the end is near.

How did Canada explode?
I think what he meant to say was that Canada exploded into a fabulous song and dance routine. It was incredible.

If pointless deaths are the cause of the worlds end, it would end every year.

Besides, the SE Asia disaster is all because of us, humans. If the global warning system had worked (which it did sort of) and the goverment had the will (which it didnt), we would counted deaths in the hundreds.

They didn't have a warning system setup in that part of the world, they didn't think there was any point. Thats the only reason so many died, the governments over there who considered it too expensive to install one.

They said if it had been installed they'd have had around four hours warning, probably less than a hundred deaths in that case.

The sad thing is, they probably STILL wont install one after this neither, so it'll just happen all over again.

I forget where I read it (probably somewhere on the BBC site... i allways read there... or maybe guardian... anway) but apparently they are going to set up such a system now.

So I guess thats good. It is indeed a shame that they didnt sort one out sooner though. :(

Yeah, its a shame things like this have to happen for most people to get off their butts and do something. The governments over there really have no excuse though, they'd been told time and time again how important it was they have one, they were told again and again this was going to happen. The scientists saw it coming and couldn't do anything, nobody to contact over there, nothing.

Indeed. :(

japan is giving them all their research and help in installing a early warning system of the tectonic s.p plates, doesnt mean that they are giving tem the equipment free tho :O

A early warning system is one of the worst things you can do. Its a complete waste of money. These events occur once every 10 thousand years or so, its just to please the people who are happy something is being done about it.

When people said there should've been an early warning system, it seemed to me as if they were looking for someone to blame. There's very little people could have done.
That said, I'm not entirely sure how much practical use an early warning system is in these cases.

Actually Tsunami's happen in that area of the world very often. Smaller usually though. Indonesia is hit by smaller ones frequently(once every 2 years maybe. It's on some website if you just look for recent tsunamis on google).

Japan installed the systems because they knew they were at risk, and they have used the warning system plenty of times. Sometimes it doesnt work because the earthquake was too close to shore and the alarm goes after it hits. But if the wave is over 15 mins away, there is enough time to get some people at least to safety.

And I think that area of the world needs to do something to warn about the disasters. Indonesia had that massive volcano in the 1700s or 1800s and it caused the skies around the world to go dark.

You need competant people in charge of such a system though.

Can't be good, sitting on those tectonic plates, disasters waiting to happen.

PS I read on wikipedia that a megatsunami (100 metre waves?) hit Scotland about 8000 years ago :O

I heard that on one of the islands closest to the epicenter (an island full of tribal village folk) they all knew there was a tsunami coming because their animals were going crazy... and the village folk knew what this meant, somehow... so they all ran for higher ground and survived.

I guess people should be educated in the teachings of tribal ancestors... if animals run for the hills, follow.

Natural disasters happen every year. Some are worse than others. The world isn't ending, its just that its natures way of thinning out the population. Shit happens.
