What did you guys think? Many seem dissapointed, I wasn't too annoyed, though.

One thing i'm not happy about - that big tentacle beast approaching Cortana right at the end (seen to much manga porn to trust it) Lord knows its depraved intentions /o\

Story wise I was pleased with Halo 2, and am suitably eager to find out what happens next - see the Arc etc

Halo 3 in the Xbox 2 is going to own :) (and has single handedly guaranteed m$ my cash :/ .... that, and the hope that Perfect Dark 2 will be everything it should be)

1 penny says we get to drive a Scarab in Halo 3

Have a look in the 'Give me spoilers' thread.

arent there no plans for another sequel as of yet??
anyways the ending was just ridiculous; the way it ended so abruptly was very frustrating... dunno what bungie was thinking
great game nontheless

The ending was the worst part about the game. And i thought there was less story in Halo 2 then the original

i think the other way. the whole story following the arbiter & master chief was good.

but yeh, 2 massive cliffhangers :(

i'll eat my hat if there isn't a halo3.

K I was watching the credits after beating the game and I was thinking.

If Earth is the ark would that make the humans the forerunners? Think about it. Guilty spark said that the forerunner where wiped out long when they activated the halo's. Guilty spark is also always calling the humans the reclaimers. And the Humans are the only ones that can acivate halo by putting the index in. The ark is also on earth.

And if a reclaimer is one who reclaims wouldnt that inply that halo was once theirs?

Sure there is a couple holes in that like how did the humans re populate earth again. But its possible right?

**** now I cant wait till halo 3.

dang brick wall ending.

The story get interesting then you slam into a brick wall. It fealt so short. I was like oh sweet we finally got the index back we must only be half way through the game. Slam. Oh **** theres a brick wall.

Is it just me or does everyone else think halo 2 was just a teaser for halo 3?

Is the ark not that ship that the chief is on?

It was never said conclusively that the ship was the Ark.

As for brick wall endings I have to say that Halo 2's ending was bad. The worst brick wall ending ever is at the end of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

I loved the storyline for it, and the ending was fantasic, did'nt leave me annoyed, just wanting halo 3.

Just finshed it now, still rocking out to the end music.

edit: Just saw the ENDING (e.g bit after the credits) that was cool, I was wondering what had happaned to that girl/a.i.

Nah I hate brick wall endings, its just a cheap way of making you wanna play or see the sequel, real talented dev's can make good stroies that brings up questions and anwsers them in one game but also gives you more questions at the end, or better just make it look like it ended in one game and them make the sequel so that people who have played the part before start asking them selfs questions, like wtf is going on here I thought it ended this way, why is that here, the ending is one of the most important parts of the stories and it should never be dissapointing, never, even if it means no cliffhanger. especiall not in games where a good sequel can take 6 years to make.
(BTW I never played halo2, I just responded on the people posts here)

Well then your post means nothing, Halo 2 is not like that too.

My posts was referring to brick wall endings, I do not know weather Halo 2 is like that, but if it is then this is what I would think of the story of it.
C'mon you don't have to be a rocket scientist to get that :dork: :upstare:  :rolling:

You guys need to beat the game on different dificulties, unlocking new endings. Just like in the original Halo...

I know after you watch the ending credits on normal mode that cortona is talking to hte big monster in the holy city. But i can never understand what that thing is saying. They should have put dialogue along the bottem of the screen.

Anyways is the ark earth or the forerunner ship? I think it might be earth because didnt the covenant find earth buy accident? They where looking for something else and they where suprised that the humans where there. And if you read the conversation from the universe book that comes with halo 2 there is a excavation going on that has a forerunner building. And why else would the covenant be sending this huge ass fleet to earth when they also have the flood to worry about now.

There's an option in the game for subtitles. That'll help out.

As for how the Covenant found Earth read the book Halo: First Strike. It explains in there.

ya I guess I will have to read it again. I read it once but dont remeber the covenant finding earth. Can you explain.

Star Wars Episode 5 had a brick wall ending, can't do much bitching about it either, so did LOTR:TT. Did the covenant find earth because it was home world? Or did they find it because they though there were forerunner artifacts there? I got the impression that they thought Earth was an uninhabitated planet.

Halo Wars, Episode 5 Ending

Cortana: Chief... I am your mother.
Cheif: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but there was a story a lot like that...

Yeah but Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back had a kickass twist at the end. No one could have seen it coming at the time.

And the Battle at Helm's Deep was very intense, alot more then the last levels of Halo 2 (where i thought the beginning of the game was more intense then the end)

Both those movies setup the next movie brilliantly. Halo 2 just sorta of.....doesnt really do that at all.

Halo 2 just kind of.....ends..... It accomplishes a few things in the storyline but thats it, the whole single player storyline was a big disappointment, especially after listening to all the ILB stuff.

I was initially pissed because I was really looking forward to kicking some more ass on Earth..but then I realized that Halo 3 will be taking place on Earth and this "Ark" dealy whatever that is.

I was hoping for some resolution of some kind..but I didn't expect any. I heard a long-ass time ago they planned to make Halo a trilogy. Many movies that are trilogies don't have a settling ending until the 3rd and I kinda expected the same out of Halo.

I actually thought things were very slow at the start and picked up nicely towards the end.

The ending was a bit of a shock - but didn't annoy me in any way

The ending was alright. At first I was thinking, "Yay, now I get to go to Earth and play as the Master Chief again!" but then it just kinda ends there.

Was the worst story and ending in a video game. Ever.
Seriously.

Im sorry but I jsut got to bring this up.

I was learning in school about archetypes and then the flood archetype came up.

The flood archetype is when the "gods" make a flood to destroy mankind and return to the golden age where everything is perfect.

I was wondering if there is any relation to the Flood archetype and the flood in halo and halo 2.

After all the flood are very good at wiping out the forerunners. Maybee there is a race even more sophisticated then the forerunners that released the flood.

Probably isnt any relation but I though it was kinda cool.

Why did bungie name them the flood anyways?

actually if you read the book "first strike" the humans find a structure on Reach then they take it back to Earth and the Covenant know they have it. This must be the ark because it coudl do weird things like distort time i believe. It was pretty whack.

Sounds interesting, but nothing from the books appear to have been included in Halo 2, so it most likely wont be included in Halo 3 :(

They could still play a bit of catch-up if that actually was true. They've made tiny refrences to the books before such as, "That fleet isn't nearly as big (or is way bigger or something) as the one that destroyed Reach" and such. I haven't read the books but I would really like to. I bet they'll tie in a few things from the book.

I actually wasn't too keen on Halo 2's story, I much preferred Laidlaw's direction with HL2. I'm not upset about the cliffhanger ending, which I thought was fine. My preference is largely based on Halo 2's reliance on cutscenes to drive the narrative. Basically, it's the difference between telling the player (HALO 2) and showing the player (HL2). I can't believe that more developers haven't gone in Valve's direction and abandoned cutscenes by now. Devs are still trying to use a cinematic convention in a medium that is totally different than films. Plus, while the arbiter levels were okay, I really just want to play as Master Chief the whole time, the constant transitions between the two diluted the overall arc. And the design of the huge tentacle creature is not nearly as good as most of Bungie's work.

Great combat though.
