So. What do you fine people think about the euro, in particular though, do you think that the UK should enter into it?

I wish canada's dollar was worth more, thats all I care about.

No, we need to keep our stubborn traits and keep the sterling!

What Abom said. ^

The euros are too small. How can anyone take them seriously as a currency.

Aye,
we should keep the pound,
just because i feel like being arrogent and not look up the impacts of keeping or changing (or to look up spelllings too)

I dont think the UK should... Our economy is far too strong to join in with the big economic gamble that is the Euro currency.

Heres some facts about the UK's economy:-
  • has a population of 58.8 million (Census 2001);
  • has a GDP of US$1.429 billion (EIU) at current prices
  • is the second largest recipient of foreign direct investment (‘FDI’) in the world (UNCTAD, September 2002) and is forecast to maintain this position until at least 2006 (EIU)
  • is the largest recipient of FDI compared to its major competitors (in relation to the size of its economy)
  • is the world’s fifth largest exporter of goods and second largest exporter of services (WTO)
  • exported more per head than either the US or Japan in 2001
  • has low unemployment, with rates below the EU and OECD averages
  • is one of the most attractive and profitable locations in Europe for investors thanks to its historically low tax environment
  • has the best city in which to do business (Healey & Baker’s European Cities Monitor, October 2002)
  • Unemployment in the UK remains at historically low levels. Long-term unemployment has fallen by 75% since 1997, while youth unemployment is down by 80%. The Office for National Statistics survey data for the three months ending February 2003 show unemployment fell by 22,000 to 1.49 million. The unemployment rate fell from 5.2% to 5.1%. The UK’s unemployment rate is well below the EU and OECD averages of 8.6% and 6.9% respectively.
Joining the euro would surrender control of our interest rates to the EU which would ultimatley threaten our position as by far the strongest economy in europe regardless of what currency we have.

The euro is a good idea in principle as it would encourage trade between all the member states to encourage growth but the fact is its slowly failing. Unemployment within the euro zone is currently at sky high levels (5.5 Million in Germany - population 81 million) whilst the UK is currently enjoying its lowest unemployment levels in decades...

ehem...our unemplyment rate is some 4.5 millions, thank you. (or 11% of people in the age to work).

Very nice indeed. You certainly know your stuff.

Its interesting to know what people think about this. Some people believe its to conservative to try and stay out of the Euro. Although, in their dictionary, conservative is a bad word. My history teacher very much thinks that joining the euro would be a bad idea for several reason I'm not to sure of. Which is interesting, because teachers often support labour who seem to be the ones wanting this. Then there is my family, the same as me, who think that entering the euro would be a bad idea. My friends are very divided on the matter. Most of them think joining would be a bad idea, for various reason, most of them being their dislike of the French funnily enough:). (by the way, i quite like the French, so dont start burning me) Some of them, especially one, think that it would be a great idea. The one who i made a point of however, went through a stage a few years ago where he believe he was an anarchist and that was the way things should go. So, that says a lot for his opinion. Then there are the few who don't really care and only see the benefits of it but think its to much fuss.

I don't care, do what you want (or your PM wants :p).

We have the Euro here in Finland and it's OK I guess. I didn't oppose to the Euro at all, but I can see why people do. :)

I'm not that bothered on euro....but isnt the euro more expensive then sterlin? I could be wrong on that one....

I wonder what currency City 17 uses..... lol

Stick with the £
I don't even know how to use this Euro sign on my keyboard, and I hope I never have to learn.

EDIT: F-uck I was just messing around with my keyboard and now I know how to do it.

Pound sterling. Why? Because it's set in the future and clearly I'm going to acheive world domination and make everything British.

You'll all be saying "Bloody hell mate, it's about time for a cuppa tea aint it? You facking slag. Cheers!" in no time.

Riiiiiight. Ok then. It was alright up until you said the part about you achieving world domination.

lol, I say that now actually!

The world will be a much better place when I'm in charge.

Im sure it will.

You know, Ive just realised, that your name has the same initials as my name. My names is Chris D. Funny really. Perhaps when you take over, i can pretend to be you and rule the world.

What's your actual surname?

You can be my assistant.

actually the pound is stronger than the euro. but once our new formed french-german military (the french do the cooking, the germans do the fighting) has landed on the british coast, that will definitivly change...

When will you learn. Invading Britain ultimately leaves you cold, wet and generally miserable. Even if you get past the beaches, we will fight you in the towns, on the streets etc etc....

Don't you see what will happen? You will land, but then get trampled by the retreating French.

Vikings where already cold, wet and generally miserable, maybe that was the reason they succeded? :D

At any rate:
I like the Euro because it brings nations together, its unlikely we will ever have another european war (not that its very likely now anyway)
And of course I hate the Euro cause its one more step towards a USE. The world dont need another super state.

Contradictions eh? :)

we created a foolproof plan to keep the french from retreating. When a german attack captures a town, all signs are replaced with french ones (the names are made up, like french du le merci bretagne or somewhat like that). The french will think they are in france, thus will not retreat.

Anyway, I think the euro is a great thing in bringing europe closer together. However, I don't like the enhancement to the east. their Level of technology is far lower than ours, thus making the richer states pump money into them.

Technology? Heh. Its not that. In simple terms the Euro introduces a lot of small/weak economys and ties them to the bigger economys dragging them down.
