Gamespot's "The Final Hours" article will be released tomorrow. They just posted a teaser of the article now, and here is the link: Article
Pretty neat article, no spoilers. Basically just discuss the first missed release date. :afro:

I really hope g-spot drilled Valve for as much September 30th fiasco info as possible.

I'm sorry, but you do realize its not going to be anything more than " we underestimated the time it would take to finish the game", or "we really didn't like the feedback we were getting from playtests".... Its not gonna be some fantastical story about how the little red knomes who invaded Valve HQ in search of the magic ruppleberries, but when they found none decided to eat half of the source code and sell the rest to a wannabe hacker......

That said, it looks like a good read

Very cool of GameSpot to do this for us. I can't for tomorrow.

Should be very interesting. I sincerely hope they don't sugar coat the whole thing.

We know thats just bullshit though. There's simply no way a company could be that f*cking stupid. All the Doug Lombardis on earth couldn't be that dumb. If Fragmaster knew, you can bet your ass Valve knew that something was very, very suspicious about that date. There is something more to it than a simple miscalculation.

I just hope the don't spoil it like they ****ed up and told you, that you controlled raiden in most of metal gear solid 2, thx for spoiling that gamespot.

I hope its out before I have to go to work tomorrow otherwise I'll be itching to get home and read it.

it's generally a good site , but apparently is negatively biassed towards HL2 , and also gave tony hawl 3 a 10 , wtf???????

RGr thx for link cant wait for that.

Nice...thank you.

Didn't they say this article is considerably longer than the final days one when HL1 was released? Can't remember if I saw that here or elsewhere or not...

How are they negatively biased?

When did Vivendi announce that it would miss its Sept 30th date and would be a holiday release? (This was obviously before Valve announced on Sept 26th or whenever it was)

What do you expect them to say? "We did it to piss you off"? Underestimating the time is a valid excuse. Given the nature of the first page, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes into a bit more detail, though.

The end of July.

I'm hoping there is a more interesting reason (let's face it, I'm well over the big ass delay now that the game is gold, but it could be a rather entertaining article none the less). Obviously they didn't do it to piss us off, but there was no doubt more to it than a simple underestimation.

Maybe at first it was. Maybe they hit some major hiccup's along the way that pushed it even further back (such as the code theft, which meant they may have had to rewrite some of the engine code, i'm just speculating of course) But yeah, something major definately happened

Judging by that one page, I'm willing to bet that the reason the delay was announced so late was because Valve didn't want to admit to themselves that it was delayed. I do the same thing myself all the time. I start assignments late and convince myself I can finish them in time, and I don't always do. Even an hour before the deadline, I'm telling people that I'll have it done.

Wow, thanks for the heads up.
This can help me finally decide from: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within or Half-Life 2.

Cool little teaser
I can't wait for the full thing tommorow! :D

You're kidding right? :naughty:

I know that Prince of Persia: Warrior Within won't stand up to Half-Life 2, but I had my heart set to it ever since it was announced, and because at the time, Half-Life 2 didn't go gold, I wanted Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and thought that Half-Life 2 would be released after Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. But now, it's the other way around. I'm really a big fan of sword fighting games, but not games like Jedi Academy, they're not really sword fighting games. They're basically just Half-Life 2's crowbar weapon being used in third person.

PoP:WW does look quite good - I like the darker, more mature direction of the game. Heck, it went from being rated "T" to being rated "M"

I think Steam is partly the reason for the delay. They wanted to get the whole preloading thing sorted out in time. Just think how long its taken since the start of preloading compared to the time between E3 2003 and sept 30th 2003.

Oh yeah and the PoP2 demo was buggy and showned none of the charm of the original. Im not holding up much hope for it, even though i loved sands.

I agree. there was more to it than just an underestimation or over-optimism, it'll be interesting to know the whole story... you just don't have a 35% finished game and convince yourself that it will be finished in a few months. hmm

The tone of the first page suggests that it was something interesting.

Well, at least the truth it there.

"Valve were no where near finishing the game". Now people will at least stop bitching at the source code leakers only.
