Yeah, I am getting it at midnight for the PS3 and I will also be getting the PC version whenever it comes out for the insane modding possibilities. Can't wait for either!!

i dont recall the hype being like this for any of the half life episodes

I'm sure it will come to PC eventually. It would be a huge blunder for Rockstar to miss the PC crowd and their money.

But I want it now, Im really regretting selling my 360 now x(

I' going to america this weekend ..you ****ers better have it out on early release or there'll be hell to pay

It'll be out for the PC around Christmas. I'll bet you as much money as you want.

That website looks like a site that I could shit out my arse in 2 seconds. The quote isn't even in quotation marks or anything.

It also states 12+ months when every GTA game has come out 7-8 months later for the PC.

Highly unlikely considering it's a brand new game engine that was developed solely the 360 and PS3.

We'll probably see GTA IV on PCs some time next year, probably in early Q2.

If you go to NYC there's a place by Madison Square Garden that does not give a squirt about street dates...

Woah woah woah. Amish I <3 you. I haven't watched any vids and I much prefer to read your accounts of the game.

So whats the overall dick around factor like? I mean, in San Andreas you could pretty much start out by running around Los Santos, collecting random weapons, hitting betting stores, mugging people/killing drug dealers for cash etc etc. Does IV still have all that? Are weapons a bit harder to come by?

I didn't dick around a lot. I was kinda wrapped up in doing the story missions because I really like some of the characters and I want to unlock Algonquin.

I found a place to pick up Molotov cocktails for free, but no other weapon drops just yet.

I've also been dating the first chick you meed a fair amount in attempt to get her special hookup bonus. All the girlfriends are supposed to unlock a cool ability for you somehow, but I don't know just yet (I mean c'mon...I've nailed her at least 5 times).

I've been doing pretty much straight missions and girlfriend work.

In case you guys want to know my % progress to completion and # of missions completed:
5 hours of playtime
14.51% completion
19 missions completed

Mmm, that sounds nice. I really need to find out about the 'dicking around' factor. That is all I plan to do for the first few hours. :E

I need to read up about the unlockables too....

that's a little out of my way ..about 11 hours or so :)

I'm shopping across the border in the niagara region witht the wife ..,,kids clothes are cheap for quality brand names ..ya I know it's a lot more boring than my usual life of political debate and religious intrigue

hmm, no one has even mentioned the PC version yet...

Put a bit more thought into it before replying and assess the absurdity of that very statement. Consider how games are developed for consoles in the first place.

The Source engine was developed for the PC and Valve chose the port it to the 360 because both platforms use the same framework. This is also the reason why they didn't port the OB to the PS3; They didn't want to spend a lot of time porting to a platform which would take a lot of time to learn.

I don't care if what I said made me look like an idiot, I'm just almost positive that we won't be seeing it come to the PC this year.

I was mainly just going by how long it took for GTA3 took to come to the PC, I think it took close to a year to be ported, but considering GTA IV has a lot more complex stuff in it that it would take a lot longer, having to tweak the internet stuff and optimization and all that.

But the engine used for GTA3 - VC - SA was created for the PS2 which, unlike the 360, is significantly different from the PC.

Yes, but they would have to optimize the game and all that, it'll take time.

We've seen Assassins Creed, and are seeing Mass Effect come from Console to PC in less than 6 months after initial release. If there is a delay with GTA IV coming to PC that's longer than that it will be a resultant of legal agreements with MS & Sony rather than technical issues to do with porting or optimization.

But weren't both Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect's PC version announced to be in development long before the console release?

Assassin's Creed's PC version was, Mass Effect's wasn't.

GTAIII
PS2 - October 22, 2001
PC - May 20, 2002
= 7 months

VICE CITY
PS2 - October 27, 2002
PC - May 12, 2003
= 6.5'ish months

SAN ANDREAS
PS2 - October 26, 2004
PC - June 7, 2005
= 7.5'ish months

They'd be stupid not to release it for PC at christmas, especially as they could probably port it from the 360 in a few months.

Past GTA games =/= GTA4?

I'm no game developer, and I'm fairly ignorant when it comes down to porting and engineering, but isn't GTAVI like... a much, much more complex game and a whole lot more detailed than past GTA games?

I'm not here to argueby the way, I full support the cause for GTA to come to the PC if simply because I can't stand the elitism that surrounds gamers when it comes to what console/platform gets what.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

haha, you edited it out you little sneak

Doesn't matter. The 360 and PC share the same framework that is DirectX.

The largest difference is that for previous GTA games, Rockstar has been using a middleware engine owned by Criterion, after Criterion was purchased by EA; they decided to develop their own engine instead, called RAGE.

By the way. I'm a PC nut, and I have been since I moved away from consoles in PS2 times. Let me just say that GTAIV has made me crumble and burn. I've purchased a 360 + GTAIV + controller recharger + wireless adapter + HDMI cable + xbox live gold. From being against it all, I've taken the plunge and joined in.

How do I feel? ****ing great, I can't wait for it to arrive.

Why are you all watching these leaked videos? What have you to look forward to when it arrives officially on Tuesday?

i had to renew my gold subscription as well, havent been many other games that I wanted to play online

I'm sure there's a lot more to this game than what's shown in a few leaked videos. And there is a difference between watching it and actually playing it. :p

In which borough do you start and in which order are they unlocked?

I'm still not touching any videos.

The videos have not exactly spoiled anything major and who really cares when so much can be done in totally different ways!!??

Just because the assets are made on a pc and the code for the engine typed does not mean it will run on a PC. Games for the 360 and ps3 or any other console for that matter are only tested running in real time on devkits.

Games are just applications same as MS Word of Adobe Photoshop are. When they run, regardless of whatever platform they are on, they operate within themselves as an application according to their own internal logic. The differences that occur between versions that run on different hardware/software, whether it be XP/Vista/OSX or PS3/360 are to do with input/interface, memory/processor handling and file structure/organization. Certainly a developer might focus their efforts on developing a game and gearing it towards running on a particular platform (360 and PS3 have OS systems), but the only thing stopping a developer from adapting the game code to run on another platform is financial incentive (is there an audience for it) and/or exclusivity contracts.

See above. Devkits are little more than hardware/software emulators Gray. It's the same as running virtualPC on OSX. Builds of GTA IV probably weren't running physically on the consoles themselves for quite some time tbh. As Psycho points out your more than halfway home if your developing for the 360 as it's using DirectX and PC hardware.

Devkits are consoles without security checks, hundreds of USB clots, keyboard support and a built-in PC.

EDIT: The live stream GTA guy got the red ring! D:
