The Magnusson Appreciation Thread

Bringing back Magnusson -

I thought it was hilarious that he could be heard in the background after the missile launch, while Alyx and Eli are talking about the greater significance of the event, shouting "My missile! Yes!" or something to that effect. Good stuff.

Well after the combine portal closes you hear him shouting stuff to speakers like "My rocket works oohoooo!!! I'm a genius!"

At first I thought he was a dickhead but it's hard to dislike him after some of things he says.

"I suggest we adjourn this meeting of the Mutual Admiration Society until after we have launched our rocket!" - Maggnusson

Plus I LOL'd pretty hard when you hear him yelling over the intercom after the rocket worked "I'm a GENIUS HAHAHA!"

Magnusson= Legend

lol love the way he bullies kliener.

"Sorry, am I interrupting tea time?" lol

I enjoyed him simply because of how perfectly unlikeable they made him. They did an excellent job with his character and it does add the kind of refreshing contrast that the Rebels needed.

If I didn't want to slap him so much, I don't think he would have been as enjoyable. However, I am looking forward to when Kliener finally gets one small opportunity to put him in his place. I want to hear what he mumbles under his breath. :D

Magnusson should not have been introduced so suddenly.

ZeroPunctuation gets is perfectly: its like coming home to a walrus at the dinner table, and nobody else seems bothered.

From a narrative point it works pretty well as from Half-Life 2. He's simply been in White Forest running his own base, minding his own buisiness and needed no mention. Now that C17 went kablooey, he plays his part in the story as you would expect.

As far as half-life 1 goes, he was just a random scientist at BM, who happens to resemble slick and had a bad lunch that day. There were so many scientists back there it's not really that jarring knowing there was in fact a named scientist in the crowd.

I loved him, from the first time I saw him. He made me laugh so hard. His arrogance is a great addition to the all-praise-Gordon-cast of characters. More Magnusson in Episode Three, enough said.

Magnusson is a truly Magnificent character.

But seriously:

Agreed.

Speaking of this phenomenon, there may be one other obscure exception besides Magnusson. Did anybody else think that the guy in charge out at the saw mill was a bit patronizing? "So, they've sent Freeman, have they ..."

I guess I could be wrong, but I distinctly remember thinking "Is this guy f*cking with me?" at the time.

Magnusson should not have been introduced so suddenly.

He wasn't. Gordon has been on Earth for like, a few days, and it's sort of obvious there's going to be more going on outside of what he saw in the days leading up to the uprising. Magnusson is only important come the end of HL2 when the teleport grid goes down.

Can someone post a screen of him in HL1?

I don't remember anyone standing at the microwave.

I don't think his lack of formal introduction was inappropriate. We all meet people in that fashion; not everybody gets a good introduction before you begin interacting with them.

Magnusson is awesome! We NEED guys like that around when the going gets tough, just like in the real world! Now, enough chit-chat....

haha, the casserole made my day, and i really thought he'd hug me after i killed those striders but the "enough chitchat" was satisfying anyway :>

I love Magnussen's character. It's very refreshing. I bet he got all the chicks back in the day with his tough-guy attitude. :p

I found him hilareous and especially when he thanked you, awesome.

I really hated him when he interrupted Eli and Alyx though. I tried to crowbar him in the head but it just bounced off.

I've got to say he made blowing up all the damn striders with his Magnusson Device worth it. I was thinking they'd do the obvious thing and that all the Rebels would call it the Strider Buster, but they all called it the Magnusson Device too! That was pretty cool.

Well, there is this:

Magnusson: FTS switched over to internal power.

Kleiner: Naturally, some time ago.

Magnusson: And armed?

Kleiner: Of course.

Magnusson: Don't ever say "of course." We can't take anything for granted!

Kleiner: No, of course not.

Magnusson: Sigh

Apparently it was Magnusson sitting in the lunch room at the beginning of HL1, there you could "use" the microwave and overload it to explode. So I am guessing Mag's Casserole was in there.

I lol'd at that. :p
