wouldnt it be cool if u can pick up headcrabs and throw them at people with the manipulator gun

no you cant pickup headcrabs ... but what do i know ... i havnet played it yet :naughty:

only objects, I'm pretty sure you can pick up dead bodies though. *Ooo, I hope, I hope* You can mod that sort of thing in anyway right?

yea that would be cool picking up bodies and swinging it at people...ahahahha damn i want half life 2

The review in PC Gamer says that you can grab the manhacks out of the air and launch them into walls, so maybe we will be able to grab headcrabs

well as far as the manhacks go you can only grab those because they arent living.. they are machines.. and small ones at that

are they taking out the physgun for sure? and if so can that be modded back in?

A mod could easily change what can be picked up by the manipulator. Go suggest it to some mod artist.

I'm hoping for a CO-OP mod to be released - being able to pick up the headcrabs would be a great addition.

The Manipulator gun will only 'open' when pointed at objects you can pick up. If it doesn't open, then you won't be able to pick it up.

I'm sure someone will make a simple mod that will allow the Manipulator to pick any object up in the single-player game. I personally would love to throw a downed Strider up in the sky and back down on top of some Combine soldiers.

The concept of picking up a live headcrab, to use as a 'weapon' is also rather funky.

By the by, in the screenies I have seen, the manipulator doesn't seem to have an ammo dial, does this mean you don't need ammo?

What the hell is the difference between picking up a manhack (not exactly a spoiler, it was in the tunnel bink wasn't it) and picking up a headcrab? I don't think the fact that one is a machine and one is a living creature is going to make a difference....aren't they still both physically simulated objects? Also, roller mines can be picked up. I'm sure headcrabs can (at least I hope so).

I don't recall seeing a manhack picked up in the Tunnels bink...

In fact, I'm not sure the manipulator was used at all in Tunnels...

And it might have an in-game explanation... bioelectrical energy, or something suitably scifi-ish. They've said that models have to be tagged to be manipulatable.

Yeah you're probably right....I didn't actually bother to check (and I haven't watched that video in ages)....perhaps I read it somewhere or made it up! Still....the rollermines evidence is there.

Hmm.....bioelectrical energy coming from a wooden crate then??

well in the stolen build u couldnt pick up headcrabs with the manipulator (dead or alive). However the physgun (bluebeam) can pick up dead bodies but not live ones.

we'll see if things change in the final version....

No, bioelectrical energy coming from the living and recently dead... which is why you can't pick them up. Maybe it interferes with the zero-point effect the manipulator uses.

But that's just one thing they could say.

No ammo.

manipulator will own you, and your family, and on the odd occasion your cat maybe near...that too!!

Its gonna be so fun, picking up bits of sign and then lobbin them at the nearest strider....yey!

Maybe you'll only be able to hold an object for a certain amount of time or something.....there is some sort of guage on the weapon itself....maybe this suggests something. Apparently no ammo limit though.

The guage is for the weight of the object.

Fair enough....good then!

What if it uses auxiliary power like the flashlight...?

The blue beamed gun, the one shown in certain E3 videon, can manipulate anything not bolted down.
The normal manipulator, avaliable in game, can only pick up inorganic objects. When targeted at an organic object (eg the combine), it instead fires a short burst of energy, harming them (although not very much, hence the other advantages). However, hitting them with a fridge generally proves more effective.

Ok....you seem very sure about this though. Has anything been confirmed or is it all still just speculation?

Yeah, I was thinking it might use the HEV suits power.

I think that would actually be a good thing, you won't overdo the whole manipulating thing then.

You can use your own arms for simpler lifting and tossing, or have they removed that feature?

That seems to be the case. That is a conclusion drawn from watching movies of both the phys-gun and the Manipulator in action.
