I'd say this medal would definately have to go to Shadow of The Colossus.

I finally got the chance to play this awesome title and I must say, I haven't had my mouth gaped open in awe over a PS2 game in a looooong time. That's truly saying something.

The only way the devs could have squeezed this much performance and graphical beauty out of the PS2's aging hardware is evil voodoo magic. Srsly, if not for the minor jaggies, and some bland textures here and there, you'd think you were playing a PS3 game. :O

Does anyone remember Ico? Reminds me much of that title. The isolation, the artistic direction, and the damsel in distress has alot to do with it, and I think SoTC was made by the same devs too. :|

The only other game that comes close on the PS2 that I've played would probably be Resident Evil 4.
However, not even RE 4's graphics (The forced widescreen format pissed me off tbh) has anything on SoTC.

What do you guys think? What game on the PS2, in you opinion, is the most beautiful?

the last james bond game i remember for ps2 was nightfire and that was in no way realistic.

KA hasn't played PS2 for years. KA simply remember how fun that game was in Intermediate.

KA posts in the third person, occasionally.

I've heard good things about SoTC's graphics and seen some awesome screenshots, but out of the games I've played, I'd say the best is Metal Gear Solid 3:

Ace Combat Zero comes pretty close too:

i always thought silent hill 2 and 3 were the best looking games i'd seen on ps2

God of War series was pretty sweet.

Silent Hill (3 in particular) had great lighting for a last gen console.

MGS series.

Resi 4.

Okami.

SOTC artistically looked great but had some technical issues alright.

SOTC, MGS3, Soul Calibur 3, Tekken 5, God of War and Okami.

God of war 2 is the best looking imo.

Artistically speaking, Okami takes the cake with no further questions asked please.

Technically speaking, God of War 2 is probably the best use of the technology. On a PS3 it looks and acts better than some games developed for the PS3!

Shadow of the Colossus probably best brdiges the gap between artistic and techincal expertise and excellence, but Odin Sphere and Final Fantasy XII come in a close second and third. Mind-blowingly awesome.

I have to agree about FF XII. Even though the textures themselves aren't that impressive, when I first visited the Pharos Lighthouse, I was in total awe over the sheer size of the place, and the grain filter actually accentuated distant textures to give them a sense of depth and distance to heighten the sense of inferiority when compared to both the vastness of the lighthouse interior, and while outside in Ridorana. :)

My only beef with FF XII's graphics though, is the almost total lack of anti-aliasing.

Okami has one of the best artistic styles I have seen in a video game... ever.

Not sure about the technical side of things.
