I decided to pick 10 of the most terrifyingly unpredictable or powerful enemys from HL and HL2. What enemy do you think is the most deadly?

Combine Gunship (HL2)
Tentacle(s) (HL1)
Ichthyosaur (HL1 water creature)
Combine dropship (HL2)
Nihilanth (HL1 boss)
AKA Gonarch (HL1 boss)
Strider (HL2)
Ant Lion Guard (HL2 boss (s))
Hunter-Chopper (HL2 boss (s))
Combine APC

I vote for Nihilanth.
why? he was wicked easy. And besides, he's a giant white alien baby. That's not deadly at all....

I voted for the strider, because it can take the most beating out of any half-life enemy. And their cool. :smoking:

Striders were a pain, hard to kill, and really really fun to fight. Then again, I always hated having to shoot Ichtyosaurs.

He was defiantly not easy, at least not for me.

Those projectiles he launches can kill you in a matter of seconds if you don't seek cover. And let’s not start talking on those annoying teleport thingies he launches at you as well. :)

Master Chief :E

but seriously - striders weren't so hard to defeat. I had bigger problems with poison zombies tbh...

Gonarch. There's nothing scarier than a huge spider legged testicle spitting translucent headcrabs at you. Oh and it also sounds like an elephant. Truely deadly and frightening.

I thought Nihilanth in hl1 and gunship in hl2. overall nihilanth is harder.

SDtriders were extremly easy to kill.

The Garg.

If it can get to you, then you're toast. It moves fairly fast and it also takes some real punishment.

For me, the scariest parts of HL1 were when you see the Garg some distance away but you know it's coming to get you...

Moset Dangerous Thing In Half Life/Half Life 2?? Alyx when you pinch her ASS!! :cheese:

You know, I gotta agree with you here, the Garg was simply the BEST damn enemy in any game ever -- including Half Life 2 with Striders -- remember the first time you saw it, and emptied EVERY weapon you had, with no effect, and then got cooked as it turned it's jet arms on you... Or later when you get outside (via the parking garage), and it follows you, and the only way to kill it is airstrikes, and if you are not fast enough, it will simply blast down the gates to get to you! Not even a Strider made me as nervous as the damn Garg did, cause at least with a Strider, you can kill it yourself with enough missiles/plasma balls, and you can hide indefinitely in some spots -- not necessarily so with the Garg. Hell, when I remember the sound of the jet arms, it is always followed (in my memory) immediately by the sound of me flatlining!

BTW, where IS the Garg in the poll? How could you forget the one enemy in Half Life which you could not kill AT ALL with conventional weapons!?!?!

What abut that big 3 headed blind animal you fight in hl:1, the one that hears you.

Thats thing used to scare the shit outs me.

Yeah, the Garg is the only enemy in a videogame that has ever made me feel fear or panic. Just the way you can turn around and see it at the other end of a corridor coming after you is like something out of a nightmare.

You can actually kill it with conventional weapons but it'll waste a whole load of ammo if it can't get to you or ammo and health if it can. I beat HL2 on hard and even then the striders were easier.

On hard, the two Combine gunships attacking at the same time in Nova Prospekt in HL2 are fairly formidable, though.

Two or more Gargs attacking at the same time would be fun. :D

I cant believe you didnt add the headcrab. God you must be dumb. Headcrab is the most dangerous enemy out of all enemies in history.

I found the headcrab to be dangerous only usually when it makes me do something stupid like fall off something.

Yes maybe garg because he had wallhack and just could shoot fire tru walls, youre right

How can you forget Garg in that poll?

I say garg. Garg will get angry and attack you if you traspass his territory. Don't get garg angry.

I have to say those carnivorus leech things in the water at the coast level

there is no way to win a fight against those buggers

Garg? Piece-o-old-cake-o

Tentacle was the hardest thing i faced.

I voted Combine Gunship. Maybe it's lingering resentment because I didn't realise I could steer rockets until I got to Nova Prospekt. As you can probably imagine that made Highway 17 a tad difficult. I found the Striders more tedious than difficult.

I voted icthy, but I can't believe the garg's not on that list. :p

In a one-to-one fight versus a garg, garg wins every time.

garg is the best, i voted strider but only couse i didnt remeber gonarch's name tell now.

I'd say the GARG. No other enemy in any game has gotten my heart racing compared to when I know a garg is chasing me and they are so tough that only specific things kill them in a practical method. the combine gunships could tear you up. but you always have cover and usually have an infinite rocket box when you encounter them. as soon as you shoot a rocket they fire at it and not you. you just steer the rockets around and can kill them without getting hit. With the gargs, you have to run your ass off to hide or aquire assistance to kill it or you WILL be anihilated.

the only rush like this in hl2 is the hunter/chopper on you while you'r on foot in route kanal, strider in the tunnel. but neither of these inspired panicked terror like a garg right behind you, desperately trying to use a jump pad correctly to be able to kill it.

Exactly. The Garg in Power Up scared the shit out of me. When I was at the end of the level I just ran and ran and never looked back.

It was only later that I realised he wasn't there any more and there were yellow blood stains near the arching electricity (awesome moment).

Before you get the egon, garg by a wide margin. The power-up level teaches you to fear it, so that when I heard it in the garage my heart jumped in my throat. It wrecks cars to get to you! ph34r.

The last garg (nihilanth) wasn't so tough because you could pop up like a gopher and egon him for a few seconds before he got to you. Easy kill.

The ichthy scared me silly because he came fast out of nowhere and you had basically one, fast shot to put him down. If you miss he chews you up, the end. I hated that SOB, in a good videogame sort of way.

I didn't fear anything in HL2 nearly as much. Every critter had a pattern you could use to take him down with minimal risk. Two gunships was a real headache, but imagine two gargs. Gack.

yeah, the first time you get in the water with the ichy and you hear it's distinctive 3-tone roar coming for you, ya pucker up a bit lol.

On deadly standards i cant believe strider is winning. I mean any area where there were some you had a crate of rockets not to mention the fact that its easy as anything to hit anything with a rocket in HL2 and also that striders attack is delayed/messed up when it gets hit.

The garg thingy is probably the most deadly but then after that is probably the tentacle thing. I mean that was invinsible, you had to set a furnace off to kill it but that wasnt the worst bit, trying to sneak down the thing and then you make a slight noise and its basicly shit, then your dead. I know countless people who didnt know how that bit worked and just kept getting raped by it.

Nihilanth would kick the strider's ass.
Exactly!

All you had to do for the striders was find a little crevace or something and lauch some rpgs at it.

Itchyosaur...Nothing is scarier than being trapped under water in the first place...but having some mutant diosaur down there with you...

//And I thought this was scariest monster:/
Deadliest would be Garg, I think I may have killed one with an air strike before...but other than that I only remember them killing me :p
