Upon continuing to watch this, I'm actually very impressed with the reporter. He's reasonably balanced-seeming, but is very good at getting them to mention hypocrisies that they believe, like at the end of part 4 at the girl's college.
 
This is just reminding me why I have less and less faith in the human race as the days wear on.

Louis Theroux is brillent, he is so good and weaving his way into peoples beliefs and ideologies, he really does have some balls.

Theroux is pretty good at what he does, but he still left a lot to be desired. I was brought up religiously, but I've always had the other side of my mind based more on scientific views. This means I have a good knowledge of both extremes of religion.
I'm surprised the family is still going. It seems like they're setting themselves up for being the last generation. None of the current members want to procreate (none will be able to either, thanks to modern media). This is lucky for us.

Have these people ever actually read the bible? y'know, basic ideologies like "Love thy neighbour", "Judge not, lest you yourself be judged" and so forth are common themes that this family seem to breeze past.
 
I doubt they have time to read anything. The kids go to public school and they travel non-stop.
They learn everything they need to know from a crotchety old geezer.

its more than just skewed morals. the only way she can actually justify the world she lives in is by completely ignoring any trace of reasoning. which is quite apparent in how she dodges his questions especially when he asks her about her sins. theres nothing intelligent about that.

Dumb people believe dumb things because they're dumb. Smart people believe dumb things because they're good at rationalizing them.

I don't think extremists like this are dumb people, which makes them all the more dangerous.
 
I thought it was wrong for whoever it was to throw that drink at that kid, no child deserves that. Also, i found it disturbing that the girl said if she died tomorrow, she would go to hell, and it would make her parents happy. According to them, heaven is an empty place.

what she said was if she got hit by a car she would go to hell. i didnt get it at first but i think that they believe that people that dont die of natural causes die because of the wrath of god or something like that.
