I love how people actually think wrestling fans think wrestling is real. Did you know that Lost isn't real either? Did you know Portal isn't real? It's disgraceful!

Staged sports are completely... they go against the entire point of a sporting event. I feel similarly of movies about sports (e.g. Boxing), unless it is a documentary, or has a good story behind it. It still feels kinda cheap because you know the good guy is going to win (sorry, girls). When the winner is already decided before the event takes place, it's pointless. To its credit, "wrestling" is unique in that they are very athletic and do some pretty cool tricks.

P.S. I thought the video was hilarious.

I dunno it's just a thing. It's like a soap opera for kids and dumb people. I mean just about every wrestler these days is a real deal athlete. Not like it's easy to just flip around, contort, and lift people who weigh 300 lbs over your head. They just do stupid crap and a lot of acting. I respect their abilities I just don't think what they do is really that entertaining... just silly stuff that you can look at and sometimes laugh a bit.

How is this different from every other genre of film?

Yeah, Virus, I have to say that's some stupid logic. It's not about knowing who wins. Besides, your 'good guy is gonna win' logic doesn't even really apply to this wrestling stuff because you don't even know who is going to win (most of the time, though I don't really know much about it)

On a match per match basis anyone can win, but at storyline climaxes and main events the good guy (called the face in wrestling circles, the bad guy is called the hee) will usually win. The funny thing about wrestling is that the good guy is basically determined by whoever the fans cheer for. The Rock was originally supposed to be a bad guy, but the fans loved him so much that he just naturally became the good guy.

I could have made a better example (and I realized it at the time), but anyway, I think it's boring to watch a sporting event where the outcome is predetermined - particularly when they visibly let someone win and it's obvious. Fake punches and everything.

do you also hate movies and watching stunts?

not that wrestling is my thing, but man. what a ****ing stupid point.

Only sports movies. I don't really see what you mean by stunts - it's as if he can't fail?

At least in a movie where 'the good guy is going to win', the movie is entertaining. But it's another thing to watch a sport event where they let each other win.

I ****ing despise fixed sports or sporting events. If I found out a boxer was throwing a fight, or a baseball player was throwing the game, or anything of the sort, I would be pissed off. It makes the whole sport look bad.

It's hard for me to comprehend anyone disagreeing with me. Maybe you can explain.

I think people are focusing on the "predetermined events" part and ignoring the "sports with" at the start.

I get what you're saying, Virus.

Well, not just sports, but competition. In another example, I personally feel that gameshows would lose most of their appeal if they were fixed. Like if they knew what questions they would be asked, and the winner was predetermined.

That can be said towards any form of entertainment involving competitiveness and outcomes.

^ Ding. If people choose to see it as real sports, well that's funny in its own right.

Yeah I wouldn't call it a sport either... but you have to admit that these people are athletes.

Well maybe not THESE people as in those in the video, but professional wrestlers in general are. No average joe could pull off the stuff these guys are doing daily.

But professional wrestling isn't a sport in the same way Star Wars isn't a war.

Wrestling is a sport.

It's fake, therefore it automatically sucks, in my opinion. I went on a rant about fixed/fake sports, but then said, "to it's credit "wrestling" is at least a show of athleticism where they do tricks and shit". If it was just a staged/fixed foot race, well it wouldn't be interesting to anyone.

If that's not a sport, then I don't know what the **** is.

Wrestling is a sport.
Yes it is. But what is shown in that video is not sport wrestling. It is a semi-scripted entertainment show.

The video in the OP shows a sport as much as this video shows doctors practising medicine:
Scubs

Even just gymnastics can be a sport, but "wrestling" wouldn't be a sport because it's not a fair competition - the winner of the event isn't determined by objective means. That's what I'm saying, it's fake, therefore it's worthless as entertainment unless you like the exhibition. However, in spite all of that, it can still be considered a sport since the purpose seems to be a competition for fans - because that's how the winner is determined. It's a popularity contest based on appearance, athleticism and showmanship.

Can't say I agree with you there.

There is always competition in sports, and the competition is amongst the athletes, not fans. We all know what it means if the fans decide who the winners are.

Plus, the fans themselves don't determine the winner. The fan favourites losing creates so much more tension, so in the end the winner is decided by what crap they could spin off from this match and how much viewership they will get as a result of this match in the future.

I have fond memories of the Stone Cold/The Rock/Undertaker/Triple H/X-Factor/Mankind era, but this is retarded.
